ktemkin: about the mainline kernel support for MSI Primo73
<ssvb>
the wiki is not the best place to attach patches
<ssvb>
a better idea is to just publish a link to some branch in a github repository

<ktemkin>
noted-- feel free to relocate the patch, if you get to it before me
<ssvb>
now that the OTG support is coming to the mainline kernel, we should try to ensure that the sun7i-a20-primo73.dts gets added to the same kernel release
<ssvb>
preferably with the support for USB OTG, accelerometer (the driver is already available in the mainline kernel) and touchscreen
<ssvb>
I did not push it harder earlier, because the tablet is not very useful without a working USB OTG support :)
<vovcia>
`6hi :) i run cubietruck mainline - i wonder if there is some timeline for wifi and BT support?
<ssvb>
ktemkin: it is a little bit different for you, because you have both the serial console and the sd card slot

vovcia: AFAIK the wifi and BT support is unrelated to the sunxi platform code, these are just generic pieces of hardware connected via USB
<vovcia>
ssvb: i dont think its usb in cubietruck
<vovcia>
ssvb: bluetooth is through some weird pseudoserial (??)
<vovcia>
and wifi is by androiidlike driver
<vovcia>
i mean, its why i bought the board - builtin wifi and bt
<ssvb>
vovcia: it is not us, who sold you this board, so if you are seeking this kind of support, then better contact cubietech :)
<vovcia>
ssvb: i know this page its about 3.4 kernel
<vovcia>
im wondering if someone is porting bcmdhd for cubietruck to mainline kernel.. :)))
<vovcia>
because KVM and xen stuff is coooool :)))

What are these "magic numbers" being used in the device tree files? I understand that "gpios = <&pio 1 21 0>;" is referring to PB21, but where are these getting these number for the interrupts?, for example "interrupts = <0 8>;" or "interrupts = <0 24 4>;" ??
cubear has joined #linux-sunxi
<montjoie[home]>
they certainly comes from datasheet
<T0mW>
I need to describe the external interrupt on "PH20", so , I assume that I would use: "interrupts = <7 20 2>" for a high-to-low transtion on PH20.
gianMOD has quit [Ping timeout: 240 seconds]
<T0mW>
But, how do I use request_irq to tell the interrupt controller that I want the shared (IRQ 60?) to enable / recognize the interrupt input on PH20? Seems that I need a "magic number" to say that?
<T0mW>
weird
<T0mW>
I'm assuming tha that the gpio pins range from 0 (port A) .. 7 (port H), then if I want to use gpio_to_irq, I would calculate that the value for gpio_to_irq would be (PORT * 32) + PIN_OFFSET. Which would be 244 for PH20. However, a call to gpio_to_irq (244) fails.
<montjoie[home]>
do like me, get the datasheet and search for an already done driver
<T0mW>
montjoie[home]: googling for two days now...
<T0mW>
montjoie[home]: seems all the info I come up with is not related to the sunxi, or refers to the older samsung way.
<T0mW>
been over the data sheet, but all I find is that vector 60 is for the PIO. So, there must be a kernel code layer that breaks out the external interrupt inputs to some other value.
<T0mW>
I've looked at schematics for Cubieboard(2) and Cubietruck hoping to find the external interrupt being used on them, but no joy.

T0mW: the interrupt numbers you can find on the user manuals
<T0mW>
Turl: there doesn't seem to be any relation to the manual vs kernel. For example, the A20 manual says that SRC 64 is the MMC0 host controller. However, /proc/interrupts (3.19) has 26 as the sunxi-mmc vector.
<T0mW>
Now, I understand that a vector does not need to mean it is coming from a source at that magic number location. It appears that /proc/interrupts is only refering to a slot in an interrupt vector table.
<Turl>
T0mW: I don't know about /proc/interrupts, but the manual matches what you need to use in dt on interrupts = <...>
<Turl>
eg mmc0 on dt says interrupts = <0 32 4>;
<Turl>
and the manual says it's 64 (bear in mind the manual has an offset of 32 with all the sgi and ppi interrupts on the list head)
<Turl>
T0mW: to use the interrupt on a EINT pin, I believe you need to use interrupts-extended = <&pio blah blah>
<T0mW>
ah, okay, 55 is 55 + 32 == emac (see ethernet@01c0b000 in sun71-a20.dtsi), ok
konradoo87 has joined #linux-sunxi

interrupt-extended = <&pio 7 20 2> ? e.g. PIO bank 7 (PH pins) offset 20 (PH20) with high-to-low edge (2) ?

so that they can build it into the newest release of A64

leviathanch: isn't memory bandwidth one of the bigger issues to drive 4K screen and populate it with smooth animated content (and still to something else in the background)?
<leviathanch>
yes, the graphics memory...
<leviathanch>
hmm
konradoo87 has quit [Ping timeout: 245 seconds]
<bonbons>
graphics memory tends to be the same as system memory... and a quick calculation tells me 2GB/s bandwidth are needed to just refresh display with 4K at 60Hz
<el3>
Does any of you know what I should put in <earlyprintk> ? setenv bootargs console=ttyS0,115200 <earlyprintk> root=/dev/mmcblk0p<partition> rootwait panic=10 ${extra}
<nove>
el3: also change <partition> to the partition number
<el3>
nove: Yes

leviathanch: who is better to answer that is arm itself
<NiteHawk>
leviathanch: i'm getting the impression that lima wouldn't be primarily involved with hw video decoding - that's the job of CedarX? ("VPU")
<nove>
leviathanch: and for all the gpus, it is power vr that has the lower chance to have a fully complete open source driver
<nove>
NiteHawk: instead of cedarx, "cedar engine" is a more correct name
<NiteHawk>
i see. CedarX is the name of Allwinner's specific (proprietary) implementation of this engine ("cedar"), while alternatives exist (-> cedrus)?

nove, libv: there is a very strange situation with the leaked PowerVR SGX drivers, apparently Imagination does not give shit about their DDK sources still being available on github
<ssvb>
apparently it was accidentally released as part of the Android SDK of some LG phone, and the PVR DDK sources extracted from it are *still* available on github

after so many months

ssvb: maybe it's their excuse for going after people trying to RE
<Turl>
they even took some of their own repos down
<ssvb>
yeah, Qualcomm was worked up for nothing and has taken down innocent repositories, while Imagination just does not seem to care
<nove>
ssvb: is the beginning of "share source", look also at the rockchip hantro v4l2 driver for chrome os, a "permissive license" + "proprietary confidential license" source code
<mrnuke>
ssvb: what? and github complied?
<mrnuke>
what a bunch of BS
<nove>
posted in an everyone can access source repository
<ssvb>
nove: yes, there is a danger in this, RMS is even unhappy about the regular BSD and considers it a threat (being particularly upset about LLVM)
<nove>
correction: is not the v4l2 driver, is the libv4l plugin that has this two kind of licensed files
<ssvb>
nove: I would not be very surprised if they are just having some sort of internal struggle right now regarding whether to release the SGX driver as proper open source or not
<ssvb>
nove: this could probably explain their lack of quick action on taking down the leaked DDK sources

<ssvb>
nove: they have missed the train and are desperately trying to catch up

nove: and now they also have to compete with the Raspberry Pi 2, which (surprise surprise) has open source 3D drivers and the documentation for 3D hardware

ssvb: at least the hardware (the XBurst thing) used for video decoding is open source software, is only the gpu that is not

ssvb, since we're now direct customers to imgtec with the ci20, I suggest that many of us just get one and complain about the lack of free graphics :)
<paulk-collins>
and btw, are you guys aware of the details of the armv7 rpi's bootloader?
<nove>
(thanks to #linux-rockchip for the info)
<ssvb>
paulk-collins: intel also has non-free firmware, but very few people care
<paulk-collins>
non-free firmware for what exactly?
<paulk-collins>
you mean the bootloader/bios?
<ssvb>
paulk-collins: yes
<paulk-collins>
well I heard there is some progress on coreboot with the minnowboard max
<paulk-collins>
and at least, it's not signed on x86 AFAIK
