<Prat> hi
<Prat> I am a new developer
<Prat> Can you plz suggest a development board where I can contribute
<Montjoie> premoboss, the A20 have a PRNG but no real random generator
<Prat> Can you plz suggest development board, So that I can contubute to mainline kernel
sehraf has joined #linux-sunxi
<rellla> ssvb: maybe the rpi2 will get the start of A10/A20s end
<premoboss> Montjoie, can you give me more details? i dont know wht PRNG is
<Montjoie> a PRNG need a seed to generate random number, so the random is not so random
<premoboss> Montjoie, ok. maybe i can read ADC to have a random seed
<premoboss> Prat, go with cubieboard a10 and a20
<Montjoie> I do not know the best way for getting a good seed, perhaps /dev/random is good
<premoboss> Prat, go with cubieboard a10 and a20. or any kind of board with A10/A20 on board.
<Prat> thanks premoboss
<premoboss> Montjoie, olny if the entropy pool is full

<ssvb> rellla: more like rpi2 is the end of a31s boards, a10/a20 still have sata as a differentiating feature :)
<ssvb> rellla: also a31/a31s has a hopelessly proprietary 3d gpu, giving it a major disadvantage compared to rpi2
<ssvb> rellla: the 3d gpu in a10/a20 is not so hopeless

<leviathancn> ok folks
<leviathancn> the reason why there is so few interaction from Allwinner with the sunxi folks is:
<leviathancn> a) only a hand full of people there can actually understand English
<leviathancn> and b) google groups and any google ips aren't routet into China mainland
<leviathancn> I just have been to their place
<leviathancn> and we decided onto a full cooperation with the sunxi project
<leviathancn> including all documentation
<leviathancn> btw, they are planning to get rid of most of the binary blobs
leviathancn has quit [Quit: No Ping reply in 180 seconds.]

<leviathancn> sorry
<leviathancn> internet here is buggy
<leviathancn> great firewall
<leviathancn> anyway
<leviathancn> the folks from Allwinner are all nice
<leviathancn> I was out with the chip designers as well
<leviathancn> and we discussed some changes on the register layout of the A80 and A64
<leviathancn> traditional Chinese food is delicious btw ^^
<linkmauve1> That’s quite awesome. :)
<leviathancn> they are at the decision phase right now I think whether they should actually employ me or not
<leviathancn> but since I've shown willingness to learn their language and had some ground breaking ideas for them
<leviathancn> I think they will give me some satisfying agreement
<leviathancn> hmm
<leviathancn> anyway
<leviathancn> we should allocate a non-google-ip-ed way of communication
<leviathancn> on which the sunxi project members and I and the Allwinner folks can communicate
<leviathancn> but remember
<leviathancn> among 50 people
<leviathancn> I met exactly 4 people who know English
<leviathancn> one of them actually talks it fluently
<WarheadsSE> leviathancn: :)
<leviathancn> we decided onto a mix of Chinese and English so that he isn't like panicing "oh god! I don't know this word!"
<WarheadsSE> I might suggest investing in a $5 USD instance @ DigitalOcean in Singapore 1 DC. That has no routing issues.
<leviathancn> hehe
<WarheadsSE> I have partnerships with Lenovo
<WarheadsSE> Sometimes hoops have to be jumped.
<leviathancn> yes
<leviathancn> it's like totally just miscommunication... just because folks there just don't understand right what people are writing...
vishnup has quit [Quit: Leaving]
<leviathancn> I stepped forward to fill this gap between sunxi and Allwinner
<leviathancn> actually everything which has being critized, after explaining it was totally accepted
<leviathancn> so yes, sunxi project will recieve more cooperation
<leviathancn> and we can do a community tablet with full support
<WarheadsSE> Spectacular
<WarheadsSE> I know the pains of the communications barrier all too well.
<WarheadsSE> This will help distributions like mine very much.

<hramrach> is linux-sunxi.org hosted on google ip?
<DagoRed> Oh dear leviathancn. I've been in similiar shoes before. Kudos for going through the hoops you have been jumping through and awesome job finding the root cause of communication issues (google IP I assume is the big issue)
<hramrach> and there is alternative interface to the mailinig list which is not google groups, right?
<leviathancn> hmm
<leviathancn> hramrach: can you post it?
<leviathancn> but it's only one of the issues
<leviathancn> the other one is
adj_ has quit [Ping timeout: 246 seconds]
<leviathancn> many of the developers have issues with the language
<leviathancn> language barrier and reduced possibilities of search engines
<leviathancn> most likely it's just such a simple but relevant problem as that they haven't found the alternative interface on baidu
<leviathancn> and that they are overworked
<leviathancn> anyhow
<leviathancn> I will receive all the documentation
<wens> big reason why the gfw screws china on internet industries
<hramrach> ok, there is no non-google interface for the mailing list I can find
<leviathancn> ok
<wens> still remember when they blocked github
<wens> there was much uproar lol
<hramrach> also this irc is accessible from China
<hramrach> that's non-obvious
<hramrach> not published anywhere
<leviathancn> haha
<leviathancn> guess where the Allwinner mailserver is standing... -.-'
<WarheadsSE> the hallway ?
<leviathancn> no
<leviathancn> they have a new building
iamfrankenstein has quit [Ping timeout: 250 seconds]
<leviathancn> they have a server room for it
<leviathancn> it's actually a stunningly big enterprise building
<leviathancn> they have it for a month now
<hramrach> the thing is that communication *is* possible. Tom Cubie was able to communicate when working on sunxi hardware, from China
<nove> leviathancn: please write to maillist telling about this, not everyone keep track of what happens in irc

<wens> chinese people are big on saving face
<leviathancn> just make phrases simple, make sure it can be found in a chinese-english dictionary
<leviathancn> and if needed add a chinese explenation about what you mean exactly
<leviathancn> then you can be sure to be understood
<leviathancn> I will send an email to the sunxi group
<leviathancn> but first I will sleep a round
<hramrach> good night :)
<leviathancn> thx ^^
<leviathancn> ah, and btw
<leviathancn> we decided today that the register layout of the MMC controller within A80 and A64 will be adapted
<leviathancn> so that we can use the generic mmc driver in the future
<leviathancn> *dang*
<hramrach> btw, what would they make a community of? I don't see any attractive chip from their current offer
<hramrach> *community tablet
<leviathancn> wait for it, a lot of changes are comming
<mripard_> leviathancn: I'm not sure changing a controller halfway through the life of a chip is such a bright idea
<hramrach> a13 is cheap and perfect for device you can hack on without worrying too much about breaking it but there are parts of the tablet that have really poor drivers like the touchscreen
<hramrach> a23 is about the same except support for the SoC is poor so far
<leviathancn> hramrach: yes... I know
<leviathancn> I had a long talk with them today
<leviathancn> and the A64 isn't done yet
<hramrach> a31 is supposed to perform slightly better but support is non-existent and it has odd graphics
<leviathancn> that I had to explain even to them
<hramrach> a80 is very powerful but quite expensive and again has weird graphics
<leviathancn> that's hardware

<leviathancn> hmm
<leviathancn> hramrach: yes, because it has a lot of power
<leviathancn> we aren't talking about software side

<hramrach> power that breaks your device is worthless
<leviathancn> we decided to use a GNU/Linux on the tablet
<leviathancn> pack all the blobs (like power vr driver) into RPMs
<leviathancn> and the kernel drivers will be provided in mainline
<leviathancn> everyone can ask questions
<leviathancn> and if needed I help translate
