<naobsd> someone who has RK3288 doc, can you check & tell me boot order especially eMMC and SD card?
<naobsd> if eMMC is prior than SD card, bootable SD card is not so handy for average user ;)
<naobsd> I should erase eMMC, then I can get answer myself...

<naobsd> I'm curious
<naobsd> how "-mcpu=cortex-a15" affect performance on rk3288
<amstan> naobsd: do you know how to enable that in the chromeos context? I could try it tomorrow
<naobsd> amstan: sorry, I have no chromeos experience...
<amstan> alright
<naobsd> is build infrastructure same as gentoo?
<amstan> Yes
<naobsd> is there CFLAGS= line in /etc/portage/make.conf?
<amstan> I could look in the emerge file for the kernel tomorrow, I don't have the stuff setup today
<amstan> though.. you're in a different timezone
<naobsd> newer gcc may have cortex-a12
<naobsd> JST/GMT+9
<amstan> naobsd: yep, not PST
<naobsd> android gcc is 4.6 based, it only has -a15
<amstan> so you're saying it's a thing that a new gcc has? I'm a little worried we don't use that gcc yet
<naobsd> well
<naobsd> gcc 4.6 which supports a15 is old
<naobsd> I don't think you're using gcc older than 4.6...
<naobsd> I'm not sure which gcc supports a12, at least newer than 4.6
<naobsd> btw, there are some definitions for a15 in android *.mk files
<naobsd> but Rockchip SDK (mis?)uses cortex-a9 for rk3288 build ;)
<naobsd> Rockchip Android SDK
<naobsd> clang/llvm part doesn't suppoort a1[257]
<amstan> I never used Rockchip in an android context, sorry
<naobsd> and Android apps which have own native code optimized for a[89] will not be affected
<amstan> I'm just a puny chromeos guy
<naobsd> I see :)
<amstan> I finally setup my irc bouncer so I can use irc efficiently now from home and work
<amstan> expect to see more of me
<naobsd> (it's a monologue)
<amstan> lol
<naobsd> a -> too noisy
<amstan> a?
<naobsd> it's too noisy monologue
<naobsd> :)
<amstan> your monologue?
<naobsd> yes
<naobsd> my monologue is too many/noisy :)
<naobsd> I should setup IRC things too
<naobsd> I'm using logs at whitequark, but sometimes that logger is offline
<naobsd> I'm curious how many people on here have rk3288 evb(or any other board for dev work)
<naobsd> let's erase bootloader area on my rk3288 board...
<amstan> naobsd: do you have one?
<naobsd> amstan: I don't have RK's evb, but I bought a box for consumer
<amstan> a box?
<naobsd> box -> remove box + add uart -> my board
<amstan> what kind of box?
<fadcom> hello
<naobsd> ^amstan
<amstan> fadcom: hello
<naobsd> hello
<amstan> naobsd: what kind of device is that?
<naobsd> amstan: generally used as Android based media player
<fadcom> It their any available firmware JB for this android tv rk2918 1.2ghz 32gb NAND flash 2gb DDR3 ram x2 =4gb
<amstan> Ah, ok, cool
<naobsd> fadcom: as far as I know, there is no firmware for "any(this) android tv"
<fadcom> ok
<naobsd> fadcom: you should ask factory/reseller/distributor
<fadcom> Still not support for JB firmware.

<amstan> naobsd: done anything cool with it?
<naobsd> amstan: I got it yesterday :) I tried mmind's Linux kernel
<amstan> naobsd: is this your channel?
<naobsd> amstan: yes and no. I became "founder" very recently
<amstan> Oh man.. when you said the irc log is sketchy you weren't kidding. There's full days missing from the log.
<naobsd> full days?
<amstan> Yeah, like July 2
<naobsd> this channel is(was) not so active, no message for some days was normal
<amstan> I guess that's just a day when nobody said anything, ok, fine
<naobsd> there are some places named "linux-rockchip" e.g. here, wiki, google groups
<naobsd> but all of them are(were) almost silent
<naobsd> and I'm trying revive them
<amstan> we should convince rockchip guys to join ;)
<naobsd> so I got admin rights for them recently
<naobsd> amstan: it must be good if possible :)
<naobsd> I'm just a person who uses Rockchip products since RK2808A age (2010?)
<naobsd> but almost obsolete
<naobsd> we can get source now, no need to scratch my head to manage binary blobs ;)
<amstan> lol

<naobsd> oops, no blkdiscard on my miniroot... let's fill 0000
<naobsd> ok, loader can be reflashed under mask rom mode
<naobsd> in mask rom mode, there are no output from serial console
<naobsd> (it's noisy on rk3[01])
<naobsd> oh no
<naobsd> mmm
<naobsd> boot from SD is possible on rk3288, but boot order(priority) is eMMC, then SD card :(
<naobsd> "use bootable SD card without modifying on-board flash" is impossible with eMMC :(
<naobsd> (probably it's ok with NAND)
<naobsd> RK3288 bootable SD card layout is different to RK3188
<naobsd> (similar)
<naobsd> bootable SD layout for RK3288 should be same as eMMC layout
<naobsd> I copied eMMC header to SD, and erase eMMC header, then sd boot works
<naobsd> btw u-boot flashed in eMMC is configured to use eMMC, so it tries to find parameter in eMMC even when it's on SD card. u-boot configuration need to be fixed to use SD card (2nd mmc controller)
<naobsd> I should try "fastboot boot xxx.img" to run new kernel
<naobsd> flashing emmc/nand and swapping sd card is not so handy for kernel development

<naobsd> I could restore dts for my rk3288 box from dtb
<naobsd> it's very similar to rk3288-box.dts in SDK
<naobsd> I guess original dtb was not tweaked well ;)
<naobsd> everything must be alpha/beta thing yet...
<naobsd> (as usual!)
<naobsd> but it must be better than dumping from running device ;)
