<cristian_c> Hi
<cristian_c> Where can I get fbset executable from? And, in which directory have I to put in?
<cristian_c> about cwm recovery
<cristian_c> Any ideas?
akaizen has quit [Remote host closed the connection]
<rperier> it would be useful to create a shared todolist somewhere, (linux-rockchip.info for example). Mostly for kernel stuffs (and perhaps userspace tools and bootloader if it makes sense to you), the idea is to be able to know who does what and put your name near to your assigned "item".
<AstralixNB> what image do you use?
<AstralixNB> Cause there are may sources outside and each of them does something a little bit different
<cristian_c> AstralixNB, the generic from androtab
<cristian_c> I can link it
<AstralixNB> Ah, ok
<cristian_c> RK30GENERIC_CWM.zip
<AstralixNB> You try that one on radxa or what platform?
<cristian_c> AstralixNB, no, mk809iii
<AstralixNB> Ah, sure, sorry!
<AstralixNB> I should have known...
<cristian_c> AstralixNB, I should use fbset, I think
<cristian_c> because there isn't autoconfig in /sys subdirectory
<AstralixNB> cristian_C I am currently very busy... I caome back to that later. If you like, you can send me a rough overview of what you like to do to astralix
<AstralixNB> at crewrktablets dot de
<cristian_c> AstralixNB, ok, thanks
<AstralixNB> I do have MK809 and 908 sticks so I probably can test a bit later this evening

<naobsd> fbset binary is in my miniroot (but, it's not special, you can use any bin)
<naobsd> and you can put it where you want e.g. if you put it on /foo/fbset, you need to call /foo/fbset, if put it on /bar/fbset, call /bar/fbset etc etc etc ...
<naobsd> you need only generic Linux knowledge.
<naobsd> rperier: agree
<cristian_c> ok
<cristian_c> naobsd, miniroot?
<cristian_c> naobsd, i've checjed sbin
<cristian_c> *checked
<cristian_c> but it's not present in the cwm recovery
<naobsd> cristian_c: http://androtab.info/miniroot/
<cristian_c> uhm, it's a page that I didn't found
<cristian_c> *find
<cristian_c> :)
<naobsd> it's not only place to get fbset, if you can't find it, no problem.
<rperier> naobsd: I agree with my idea too (no, I am joking ;D). It would be a good thing to know what are the important items/tasks to do for contributors. who does what, is there a blocking part which is under developement etc... if a item is upstream or not under review etc...
<rperier> at least this is my point of view
<rperier> mmind00: it would be nice to have something like that for kernel development. What do you think ? that's just to organize our work (and to improve communication locally, ie != upstream). Nothing more :) . A community tool
cristian_c has quit [Ping timeout: 245 seconds]
<mmind00> rperier: be my guest to do something like that ;-)
cristian_c has joined #linux-rockchip
<rperier> it was my intention ;)
<rperier> I can create and maintain it, of course, np
<naobsd> no need to be perfect, just put things we currently know is enough as a starting point :)
<naobsd> then ask people who're working "please update if something is wrong/missed" ;)

<cristian_c> ok, extracted the root directory from the raw archive
<cristian_c> ok, found fbset binary in /bin
<rperier> naobsd, mmind00: something like that: http://linux-rockchip.info/mw/index.php?title=TODO
<rperier> I added a part of my todolist as an example
<rperier> the content of each part is free
<mmind00> looks informative ... it only needs to stay maintained
<naobsd> rperier: thanks, I'll add my list
<naobsd> I want to collect info e.g. "not in 3.17 but in 3.18"

<hramrach_> how do I build kernel for a random device such as http://linux-rockchip.info/mw/index.php?title=FNF_iFive_X2 ?
cyrozap has joined #linux-rockchip
<hramrach_> presumably I should configure it somehow so it initializes hardware pieces I have and does not try to initialize pieces I do not have an uses the correct GPIO for stuff
<hramrach_> is there some info on that?

<hramrach_> presumably the tablet has BT
<hramrach_> how do I tell what kind of BT and where it is connected?
<hramrach_> maybe I need a dmesg with bt enabled?
RayFlower has quit [Read error: Connection reset by peer]
RayFlower has joined #linux-rockchip
<AstralixNB> hramrach_ this is what I did many times. Either push the analyzer probes around to see what happens or disassemble the kernel and see, which GPIOs are related to what piece of hardware
<AstralixNB> But there is thir gpio script out there and if your hardware manufacturer has coded correct, he named the GPIOs a bit and th gpio script can tell you rhese names.
eebrah has quit [Quit: leaving]
<karlp> you were really disassemling the kernel?
<karlp> I've tried the gpio script, but it's given me rather inconclusive results, need to try it again
FreezingCold has quit [Read error: Connection reset by peer]
<karlp> script needs mods too to maybe spit out modern pin names instead of old pin names
<AstralixNB> There are several versions of the gpio tool
<AstralixNB> And yes, diassembling the kernel is not for the faint heartet but it can make fun
FreezingCold has joined #linux-rockchip
<AstralixNB> It is far better to read than you might expect. Everyone should try it once in a while :)
<AstralixNB> But you should use some professional disassembler with at least some analysis functions and you should know the tricks to export the symbol tables and import them to the disassembler
<AstralixNB> But I started with 6502 assembler, 8051 assembler, avr assembler... 8080 assembler.... So ARM assembler isn't like a foreign language to me. Just another dialect
<hramrach_> AstralixNB: I have output of the gpio sctipt
<hramrach_> AstralixNB: do you have a tip for good disassembler for ARM?
<AstralixNB> yes, but not a cheap one
<AstralixNB> IDA pro advanced with the needed option packs
<hramrach_> hmm, I guess not for disassembling the kernel to make your tablet working
<AstralixNB> A bit expensive for just a trial
<karlp> if by several versions, doyou mean all the versions that accumlated on the freaktab thread? or something else?
<AstralixNB> You are in the same position than we where many times? Nice Tablet, no sources?
<hramrach_> costs more than the tablet. in fact you could get quite a few tablets for the cost of the dissassembler
<hramrach_> well, the tablet sort of works with the original Android rom
<hramrach_> but eg video decode somehow sucks
<hramrach_> playback is worse than on an Allwinner a13 tablet
<hramrach_> and it's probably pointless to even try to solve that in Android
<karlp> http://linux-rockchip.info/mw/index.php?title=GPIO_Dump is a little more uptodate, I got the "latest" version of the decoding script into our repo, with some minor fixes
<AstralixNB> yesm use karlp version of the gpio script, cause my fork wasn't update with the latest patches
<hramrach_> ok, I can try running the script again, and turn on BT before trying
<hramrach_> seems the BT is completely powered off when disabled and gives no output at all
<AstralixNB> The script shows the current state of the pins. You should see _three_ pins changing probably _four_
<AstralixNB> ... depending if you have WiFi enabled or switch WiFi together with BT
<hramrach_> on AW hardware getting sources is not all that important since the SDK ises a configuration file which you can extract and use with minor corrections to boot a generic kernel
<karlp> hramrach_: the script tries to automatically toggle the rfkill states.
<AstralixNB> this is often not the case with RK. Even RK supplies a good SDK, OEMs often implement their own mechanism to get the kernel patched for the current tablet hardware
<karlp> (so the _script_ is only really useful for helping to automatically find the bt/wifi pins, but the user space app "gpio" that goes with the .ko just dumps the pins and their states, which is possibly more useful for working out other pins
<hramrach_> ok, i dumped the state with different combinations of wifi and bt on/off so will try to diff it later
