Idk if i understand things correctly, but i will ask my question anyway.. Is it plausible to create quite small blocks but then have many different ways of viewing a scattered sampling of those blocks and represent as a whole using a merkle tree?

DarkDrgn2k: no. if you have a very small number of connections, then ipfs would try and reconnect to any peers in the bootstrap. Peers that you `swarm connect` to have a higher weighting, so your node is less likely to trim those connections if you have lots... more info here https://github.com/ipfs/go-ipfs/issues/6097

Sure, in current form/version people don't use any payment system for operating in IPFS protocol - however, the who;e thing seems to be geared towards payements for things like file storage and distribution, no?

however, after reading a bit of the spec and hearing a few of the people behind the tech talking about it - there's a feeling that the way they think files will be constantly online, is only through some payments. (they call it incentives..)

swedneck:permaweb.io: aha there is no provisions in bitswap to reward seeders, even though this is an idea mentioned in the IPFS paper. There are provisions to try to be fair when handling requests to send data and avoid starving some peers, afaik.
