<sevru243> hello, this webpage showed up in Google results : https://ipfs.io/ipfs/QmXoypizjW3WknFiJnKLwHCnL72vedxjQkDDP1mXWo6uco/wiki/Technology.html
<Voker57> so?
<sevru243> newcomer question : why are there both a hash and filename in the url ? Wouldnt the hash be sufficient ?
SunflowerSociety has quit [Ping timeout: 240 seconds]
<sevru243> or is the hash only a folder hash ?
<sevru243> (couldnt find a doc on google that explains the url parts)
<Voker57> QmXoypizjW3WknFiJnKLwHCnL72vedxjQkDDP1mXWo6uco is the root hash, which contains links wiki -> Technology.html, indeed there is also a actual file hash
<sevru243> If I understand correctly, any parts of the path to the file can be replaced by its hash?
sz0 has quit [Quit: Connection closed for inactivity]
<sevru243> so we could also have ipfs.io/ipfs/HASH/Technology.html
<lidel> sevru243, correct
<sevru243> but then is HASH also a root hash?
<sevru243> in IPFS terms
<sevru243> is it called root because you can only have one of it in the url ? like, there is no ipfs.io/HASH1/path/to/folder/HASH2/file.html

<sevru243> I ask for confirmation because I understand that the HTTP version is a sort of gateway to IPFS, and there must be a concept mapping
<sevru243> and at first sight I'm not sure what is specific to HTTP and what belongs to IPFS
<sevru243> at a vocabulary level
kaotisk has quit [Ping timeout: 240 seconds]
Cavedude has quit [Ping timeout: 264 seconds]
<sevru243> Also, I wonder is there is an actually folder named HASH created somewhere on some filesystem on some node
<sevru243> or if it acts more like an IP adress of a node
<sevru243> is there any FAQ I could check somewhere maybe?

<xelra> djdv: I want to bring the WinFsp project to your attention. https://github.com/billziss-gh/winfsp
<xelra> It has an active developer and the filesystems on top of it are the best out there.
<djdv> That's the current likely target
<xelra> For example sshfs for Windows that builds on that.
<xelra> I think it's the better solution over Dokan X/Y.
<xelra> Glad to hear it.
<djdv> I'm interested in people documenting their opinions on it here: https://github.com/ipfs/go-ipfs/issues/5003
<xelra> I'll gladly leave a comment.
<djdv> some of the old benchmarks are outdated so I'm curious to hear cases of Dokany x Winfsp
<djdv> modern comparisons*
<xelra> I mostly came in contact with it purely because of sshfs on Windows. And I dumped Dokan some time ago, because WinFsp just performs flawlessly.
<djdv> glad to hear it, I've had nothing but issues myself with Dokany projects unfortunatley
<xelra> I'm using https://github.com/billziss-gh/sshfs-win on a daily basis without any issues. I'm mounting a remote repository over it and do code editing. I've never experienced a problem. Not while editing, saving or while doing just file transfers in the Windows Explorer.
