<betawaffle>
i've got a bitcoin script idea, and i'd like to know what's wrong with it, or if someone already had this idea:

<betawaffle>
is it possible (or is it a bad idea) to have a piece of script executed when A tries to send to B, where B is the one providing the script?

<betawaffle>
ie. let's say i only want you to send to my address before block X, after that, the spend is invalid
<betawaffle>
imagine a merchant who generates a transient address for a specific payment, but doesn't want to receive anything extra after that 1 day window
<betawaffle>
so they can safely forget the private key involved and not need to deal with refunding mistaken sends to them
<betawaffle>
the somewhat obvious problem i think i can see with this is that the address would need to be long, correct?
<andytoshi>
no. this is not reorg-safe. you cannot do anything that causes previously valid transactions to become invalid, absent double-spends. also there is no need whatsoever for script to be involved with this, you can just as easily put a timestamp in the address and have clients understand it (or better, just use a payment protocol and forget about addresses or reuse)

andytoshi: thanks, that answers my question!

I was wondering. Are there any detailed network presentations on the pros/cons of both on chain scaling, and off chain scaling?
