<rickmasta> So, the example plugins that I was looking at had stuff like "s.add_runtime_dependency "httparty"" in the gemspec

<thoughtfusion> but, if you run `rake install`, that will satisfy the dependency on your machine

<banisterfiend> leehambley: which debugging functionality do you miss most?
<leehambley> banisterfiend: mostly being able to stop rspec tests mid-test, to investigate obscure failures
<leehambley> it's been recommended that I try pry, but I don't feel like that…
<banisterfiend> leehambley: then try out pry instead
<banisterfiend> leehambley: hehe why not
<banisterfiend> leehambley: for your particular use case it almost seems pry is better suited than ruby-debug
<leehambley> perhaps
<leehambley> but I'd like to be able to have my tools running on 1.9.3-p0

<leehambley> banisterfiend: I guess I need ruby-debug, really can't understand why it's not working on 1.9.3-p0 yet, pry with pry-nav throws: private method `eval' called for #<RSpec::Core::ExampleGroup::Nested_1:0x007f86e2c6b388>
<banisterfiend> leehambley: hmm i guess pry-nav is a new project and still needs some work, if you wanted to improve it u could probably file an issue tho https://github.com/nixme/pry-nav/issues
<leehambley> yeah, I might
<leehambley> what's your connection with Pry? You seem awfully keen on it, contributor?

<banisterfiend> i didn't write pry-nav though
<leehambley> I'm never sure about these things, never bought into wirble, or hirb, etc
<banisterfiend> that's a 3rd party plugin so i cant vouch for it
<leehambley> and I'm not sure that porting shell paradigms to Ruby is wise
<leehambley> (but who hasn't typed `ls` in a debug session, instead of `l=`)
<banisterfiend> leehambley: pry is a little different to wirble and friends, and the shell analogy has worked pretty well for most people so far
<leehambley> yeah, for sure
<banisterfiend> i guess there'll always be some people who dont like it though
<leehambley> couldn't figure out how to get pry to show me the line I was on
<banisterfiend> leehambley: type 'whereami'
<leehambley> ah…
<banisterfiend> leehambley: how are you invoking pry btw?
<banisterfiend> you need 'binding.pry'
<banisterfiend> dont just type 'pry'
<leehambley> `pry` as a standalone statement in a debugger
<banisterfiend> no
<leehambley> s/debugger/test/
<leehambley> ah…
<banisterfiend> you need binding.pry
<banisterfiend> then pry-nav should work better too

<llaskin> ok how about now: https://gist.github.com/1571045
<canton7_afk> so it isn't that you're comparing 14.00 and 14, you're comparing 14.00001 (e.g.) and 14. The normal way is to accept the assertion if the different is less than a given delta
<Mon_Ouie> A random guess would be it's a floating point computation error. A simple example of those is 0.1 + 0.2 != 0.3

<Trevoke> llaskin, well, how are we supposed to help you if you're passing in arguments to a method and we don't know what the method does? ;-)
<Trevoke> llaskin, just check whether it would return true if the arguments you pass in are equal
<Mon_Ouie> I do get ((value1.to_f - value2.to_f)/value1.to_f).abs == 0.0

<Trevoke> llaskin, this worked for me: https://gist.github.com/1571175
<zxiest> I would like to call a static method in a class in a module that's included by that class. I also want the module to be able to call a static method in the class that includes it. How would I go about the syntax?
<Trevoke> llaskin, I had to simplify it to remove the bits that I don't have
<zxiest> using the module name from the class works... Module::blabla ... But the module doesn't know what class is using it.
<canton7_afk> Trevoke, you'll want some value > 0 for the second argument to assert_less_than_equal

<Norrin> i have an api that needs arguments in format such as /text text text/

<Norrin> i want to save those arguments as strings, and use the string to talk to the api

<dida> burgestrand, what do you mean? ^^
<burgestrand> dida: which lines are your problem?
<canton7> dida, $1 shows what's captured by the brackets
<havenn> line 99?
<canton7> ah, so there should be a $2. my bad
<dida> line 97-
<burgestrand> your other paste talked about some line matching dida, so I was a bit confused
<Keva161> sorry again if this is stupid but i dont quite get escape sequences.. from my understanding a single \ allows for a space and doesn't end a string when it reads a " or '.. but \\ prints out a single \ but why isn't it '<space>\<space>' ?
<burgestrand> dida: what’s inside $2?
<dida> burgestrand, i did a fallback to check whats inside $1 and $2 (puts $1 puts $2), but it just printed out empty lines
<dida> although, when i tried to split $1 and then puts out @dat[1] it printed out the user's username
<dida> but, @dat[2] did not have the user message inside
<dida> although, it worked with the admin function
<dida> everything is the same, except the regex.

<canton7> $2 is the message
<dida> $1 is not just the username. at least not at the admin commands
<canton7> in the admin commands, you've only got one set of ()
<dida> oh

<dida> so, shall i try with $2?
