<Openbot> Log chk
<Openbot> Err its fine !
<Openbot> Ssssssxxx
<DocScrutinizer05> please no noise!
<DocScrutinizer05> nobody is interested in "Ssssssxxx"
<MonkeyofDoom> DocScrutinizer05: a friend was asking recently, what concerns/responsibility does the Neo900 project have w/r/t e.g. FCC cerfication?
<Openbot> Sleeping on irc ? Bad habbit .
<Openbot> Night...
<DocScrutinizer05> concerns? few except cost. Responsibility? We'll get device approval as needed
<MonkeyofDoom> ok
<MonkeyofDoom> it was just something mentioned as a significant entry barrier to producing electronic devices (in the States, at least)
<DocScrutinizer05> it kinda is
<MonkeyofDoom> so I was curious if it posed problems for this project or if that'd been considered sufficiently
<DocScrutinizer05> we have the benefit of using pre-certified module
<MonkeyofDoom> right
<Openbot> Sssss =silence and i tried to sound more real anyway enough noise :p
<DocScrutinizer05> Openbot: LAST WARNING
<DocScrutinizer05> a >60 users in this channel have to read your noise (unless they put you on ignore), and probably a few hundred are regularly reading the chanlogs where no /ignore applies. So every single word of noise you paste here is wasting a total of at least 1 minute attention time, and it reduces attractiviteness of the channel
<DocScrutinizer05> s/attractiviteness/attractiveness/
<Openbot> Ok got that
<DocScrutinizer05> fine!
<Openbot> omg !http://www.linxtechnologies.com/en/support/faq
<Openbot> so how much neo gonna waste on fcc ?
<DocScrutinizer05> iirc around 5k or something
<Openbot> Thats full transreciver test ! Wifi bt included or module cert enough?
<DocScrutinizer05> tbh I dunno, it's Nik who has already done this for GTA04, so he's the one to know
<DocScrutinizer05> iirc the idea was that you import a CE certified device which then is accepted by e.g. FCC
<DocScrutinizer05> but I may be wrong on that detail
<MonkeyofDoom> ah
<Openbot> A small compony and so much overhead on selling it !
<Openbot> What else more money requiring tests certs are involved besides fcc ?
<Openbot> *beside
<DocScrutinizer05> hardly anything, except of course all our prototype tests which need evaluation for decen operation of all RF, but that's lab tests for evaluation, not certification
<DocScrutinizer05> all RF is pre-certified modules, so we're low on overhead there
<Openbot> Good for us
<DocScrutinizer05> we're just adding power supply and antenna to an already tested and certified module, for BT, WLAN, FM, cellular
<DocScrutinizer05> not so for NFC
<DocScrutinizer05> but we probably won't offer NFC as OOTB feature, user has to add his own antenna
<DocScrutinizer05> the Neo900 only comes "prepared for NFC"
<Openbot> Fm tx power hackable ? You know n900 so irritating on times like car back seat !
<DocScrutinizer05> so when you add NFC antenna, you built your own NFC device and Neo900 UG is not responsible for that
<DocScrutinizer05> yes
<DocScrutinizer05> of course
<Openbot> Lol
<Openbot> You are just offering the gun!
<DocScrutinizer05> like NXP and TI do
<DocScrutinizer05> they sell the chip, we sell the chip soldered ona PCB
<Openbot> Donn know that
<Openbot> Btw nfc anteena = some wire or some specilized thing ?
<DocScrutinizer05> Varta selling batteries that can get used in torch and in taser
<Openbot> Haha
<DocScrutinizer05> NFC antenna is a few winds of wire
<DocScrutinizer05> basically
<DocScrutinizer05> usually comes as flat plastic flexible circuit board
<Openbot> Tazers are most crazy things ever
<DocScrutinizer05> to build a proper NFC defice, you probably need to use external antenna or a mugen extended battery cover, since otherwise the NFC antenna is too close to metal shields and other antennas in device, which would defeat bot NFC cert and cert of other RF
<Openbot> Looks lke nfc anteenas can be bought on ebay !
<DocScrutinizer05> sure
<DocScrutinizer05> easily available, and maybe Neo900 UG even sells a good one
<DocScrutinizer05> ;-)
<Openbot> Great !
<DocScrutinizer05> it seems there are some NFC antennas with ferrite back wich somewhat shields antenna from nearby metal
<DocScrutinizer05> but those are "thick" (like almost 1 mm)
<DocScrutinizer05> and the effect of ferrite on e.g. WLAN/BT and cellular antenna is unknown
<DocScrutinizer05> to us, yet
<Openbot> Few years ago it was the craze here of magic lights that lit up on calls so i dont wonder where the power comes in nfc !
<DocScrutinizer05> those are outlawed meanwhile, they introduce harmonic distrotion into RF signal
<Openbot> Woudnt that be too little ferrite to cause noticeable damage
<DocScrutinizer05> it's quite a notceable area, of e.g 25x25mm
<Openbot> Outlawed ?omg igot some 10p lying around :p
<DocScrutinizer05> covering e.g WLAN/BT antenna with such sheet of ferrite may have unwanted effects
<Openbot> Lab will tell !
<DocScrutinizer05> I once tested one of those lights on my old 6210 Nokia -> instant loss of connectivity ;-P
<Openbot> I got 2 on my 6210 goes fine ;p though sucks some network in poor areas

<Openbot> Btw what are those lights called ?
<Openbot> I mean proper name
<DocScrutinizer05> no idea, sorry
<Openbot> Ok
<DocScrutinizer05> better google for harmonic distortion
<DocScrutinizer05> though google is greeat at fixing typos for us
<Openbot> Well thats what i did and things overflowing my head :p
<DocScrutinizer05> ~wiki harmonic distortion
<infobot> At http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Harmonic_distortion (URL), Wikipedia explains: "{{About|technology, especially electrical engineering}} {{Redirect|Distort}} 'Distortion' (or 'warping') is the alteration of the original shape (or other characteristic) of something, such as an object, image, sound or waveform. Distortion is usually unwanted, and so engineers strive to eliminate distortion, or minimize it. In some situations, however, distortion may be ...
<Openbot> Distortion...well i learnt a spelling..
