<mithro>
Hrm -- the laptop cannot use USB-C for charging.
<awygle>
not enough power
<gruetzko->
yeah, usb-c is "only" 100W

<azonenberg_work>
awygle: i'm still waiting for somebody to make my dream laptop
<awygle>
azonenberg_work: gotta do it yourself
<azonenberg_work>
tablet-class motherboard, running a nice lightweight debian or something
<azonenberg_work>
in a full thickness 15" form factor
<azonenberg_work>
with 300+ Wh of batteries
<awygle>
(renting an apartment has made me want very badly to build an apartment to my exact specifications)
<azonenberg_work>
basically a little 1" strip along one side of the case is mobo
<azonenberg_work>
the rest is all power
<azonenberg_work>
imagine how many 18650s you could fit in that
<azonenberg_work>
Stick an LTE modem in there
<azonenberg_work>
And use it anywhere with cell service for a week between charges
<awygle>
*slaps roof of laptop* this baby can fit so many 18650s
<azonenberg_work>
lolol
<azonenberg_work>
awygle: re "apartment to exact specifications"
<azonenberg_work>
i'm pretty sure that's called building a house
<awygle>
house is expensive. i just want to tear down one apartment in my current building :p
<azonenberg_work>
Lol
<azonenberg_work>
Which is pretty close to what we're doing, except we're keeping the structural elements of the existing building and just redoing the whole interior
<awygle>
actually i was running the numbers on a house lately and if i want to stay at all close to where i am "condo" is much more likely to be in the cards than "house" :/
<awygle>
which is unsatisfying
<azonenberg_work>
Yes, on that side of the pond
<azonenberg_work>
But over in north kitsap we paid $339K for this place :)
<azonenberg_work>
Quarter acre lot, 5 bed 2 baths
<awygle>
yes but then i'd have to live in north kitsap
<awygle>
if i was gonna move i'd move to like, oregon
<azonenberg_work>
Lol
<azonenberg_work>
Well since $DAYJOB is on the west coast of seattle
<awygle>
since "remote friendly job" would be a prereq anyway (no way am i commuting to _redmond_ from _kitsap_)
<azonenberg_work>
the commute isnt too bad, i dont have to go through the city
<azonenberg_work>
especially since i only go in ~3 days a week
<azonenberg_work>
But yes, i would love to eventually be 100% remote
<azonenberg_work>
The thing is, i still would want to live somewhat near a major tech hub
<azonenberg_work>
Because as much as i love working remote i'm a realist and i know that if something happens i may end up in a job that requires commuting
<azonenberg_work>
So living in a location where commuting is simply off the table seems like a high-risk choice
<azonenberg_work>
as opposed to one like where i am now, in which commuting is a bit annoying but tolerable if needed
<awygle>
yeah, i have friends that just bought a very nice house in Hillsboro which seems like a decent choice. near intel and not impossible to commute to portland
<awygle>
kind of a boring town though
<azonenberg_work>
Basically, once i invest all this time and money into building a lab
<azonenberg_work>
i do NOT want to have to leave it because i got laid off from the one job within a reasonable drive
<rqou>
can we just invent teleporters already?
<gruetzko->
i'd settle for fixed-to-fixed
<awygle>
Teleporation Circle is only a fifth-level spell, surely much easier than Teleport
<rqou>
today in "red team is teh fail:" doing the post-getting-caught cleanup is pretty unfun
