<RobbieG> Hi all. I was wondering if someone could help me out. I'm trying to install CM9RC2 on my Samsung Captivate. I installed CWM Recovery via i897-Speedmod-K13E-GBbootloaders-One-Click.jar as described here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1350266&highlight=ics , but when I try to flash cm9 from recoery, I get an error that starts with "assert failed" and ends with "(Status 7) Installation aborted"
<bhundven> RobbieG: try wiping /system before flashing cm9
<RobbieG> I did, but I'll give it another go
<bhundven> also, factory reset/wipe data before flashing
<RobbieG> I am getting an error mounting system
<RobbieG> it will not let me format
<RobbieG> a search shows someone saying "Its because you have a lagfix. Windows wont read ext filesystems i dont think." Do you know what that means and how I can fix it?

<peterperfect> supercurio ohai..are you there?
<supercurio> oh hey fine thanks and you? :)
<Entropy512> ugh i hate mondays
<supercurio> rainy monday here ^
<supercurio> Entropy512, choose to work as independent instead
<Entropy512> heheh
<supercurio> Entropy512, you won't notice the difference, working every day :D
<Entropy512> lol
<peterperfect> supercurio fine here too!
<Entropy512> well in my case I'd notice the lack of medical benefits. :(
<peterperfect> hey..you guys had problems with logcat under terminal emulator?
<peterperfect> if yes i think i know why
<supercurio> peterperfect, terminal author chose to remove the READ_LOG permission after some stupid used bugged him with it :(
<peterperfect> yep
<peterperfect> thats what i was about to say
<peterperfect> :P
<cdesai> i have the latest
<cdesai> and it works fine here
<supercurio> so.. su -c logcat
<peterperfect> cdesai so you dont have the latest..hehe
<cdesai> peterperfect: no, use su
<peterperfect> ah sure...
<cdesai> i always used su for that
<peterperfect> cdesai thats why it was working...:D
<supercurio> well logcat is not supposed to require su
<peterperfect> cdesai compile own version of terminal emulator with the right perms and send pull request to CM?
<supercurio> except now with JB it becomes far less verbose, outputing only your uid log entries
<cdesai> supercurio: true, and logs should not contain anything private
<supercurio> cdesai, yeah.. difference between theory and practice :P
<Entropy512> yeah and if you're trying to get a system log in terminal emulator - yeah you'll need to use su
<Entropy512> app developers are paying for the sins of a few
<Entropy512> having only your own errors is not helpful if you're triggering a system issue
<supercurio> eventually Google change is reasonable. but it will complicate error reporting and debugging at the same time
<supercurio> as developer don't have "context" anymore

<Entropy512> supercurio: they either didn't build with BOARD_SUPPRESS_EMMC_WIPE, or they are using an old update-binary from before when we fixed it
<supercurio> yes, makes me sad :(
<Entropy512> debating whether to download it to check the binary
<supercurio> is BOARD_SUPPRESS_EMMC_WIPE the default?
<Entropy512> no
<Entropy512> since most devices don't need it
<supercurio> I also told you because it could be effective into reproducing the issue
<Entropy512> problem is - even if you have a known dangerous config, it's not guaranteed you'll reproduce
<supercurio> I asked to my friend the history of his flashing but he was too depressed ^^
<Entropy512> When I met H, I brought CM9 builds that had BOARD_SUPPRESS_EMMC_WIPE removed
<Entropy512> they never bricked
<Entropy512> go figure
<Entropy512> when you want it to brick
<Entropy512> it won't
<Entropy512> when you don't
<Entropy512> it will
<supercurio> irconically the ROM is named "Resurrection"
<Entropy512> what the fuck?
<Entropy512> 380MB for an AOSP-based firmware?
<Entropy512> ????
<supercurio> well^^

<supercurio> Entropy512, ok I caught the guy again to get more details and he says "I might have made a big mistake"
<Entropy512> oh such as?
<supercurio> Entropy512, investigating ^
<Entropy512> well I just confirmed it has a dangerous update-binary
<supercurio> oh
<Entropy512> or in the case of AROMA - update-binary-installer
<Entropy512> strings update-binary |grep discard
<supercurio> yes that's right, it's not only about the recovery itself
<supercurio> update-binary do the job
<Entropy512> yup, so if you're on CF-Root 5.6 XXLQ5 or XWLPM
<Entropy512> BOOM
<supercurio> discard is for the mount option (Ext4), or it's also the name of the secure erase command?
<StevenHarperUK> Hi guys : just got a replacement i9100P today as my radio on the other just stopped working all together...... Latest build running smooth - and I can confirm that the other changes to the WiredAccessoryObserver went in smoothly with the Audio Dock - I just tested it in the Car
<Entropy512> it has varying names
<Entropy512> discard/erase/trim
<Entropy512> mount option is discard
<supercurio> okay I see
<Entropy512> StevenHarperUK: ah, maybe you can figure out how to enable NFC on only the P but not any other I9100 variant
<Entropy512> that's been the holdup with NFC on the P
<StevenHarperUK> I had a huge brown trouser moment - when the RIL didn't start after 2 reboots when flashing the lastest nightly... Thought that I had lost another device - 2 reboots later it came back good. Just the standard RIL crashing bugs
<supercurio> Entropy512, is the discard mount option also dangerous?
<StevenHarperUK> Entropy512: would be my pleasure --- any suggestions.
<Entropy512> supercurio: That's questionable. It uses normal erase, not secure erase
<supercurio> Entropy512, meaning.. you know everything triggering "trim" on the controller is dangerous
<Entropy512> which Samsung claims is safe
<Entropy512> and is definitely "safer"
<Entropy512> but
<supercurio> ok some more details:
<Entropy512> I have seen enough claims of damage from stock recovery that I don't trust it
<Entropy512> and I see at least one brick reported in the thread
<StevenHarperUK> Entropy512: I was forced to do a stock recovery yesterday to return my i9100P (and test that the radio really wa busted)
<supercurio> "I flashed I9100XWLPO_I9100NEELP4_I9100XXLQ6_NEE, then it updated itself to XWLPT via OTA"
<StevenHarperUK> Entropy512: Sha,e we could have used it as a crash test dummy
<StevenHarperUK> *Shame
<supercurio> "after that I rooted using CF-Root-SGS2_XX_OXA_LQ5-v5.6-CWM5.tar (odin)"
<Entropy512> yeah, that'll do the trick
<Entropy512> CF-Root LQ5 + that release can kill you
<Entropy512> StevenHarperUK: bad news is, damage from stock recovery is rare
<Entropy512> so it's hard to intentionally reproduce it
peterperfect has joined #teamhacksung
<StevenHarperUK> Entropy512: but we could have tried everything lots of times :) the phone was being returned anyway
<Entropy512> hell even damage from secure erase is rare enough that it's hard to reproduce when you want to (such as when you have Samsung engineers bringing a device with the eMMC chip in a socket :) )
rtfpessoa has quit [Read error: Connection reset by peer]
<Entropy512> but when you scale to thousands of users
<StevenHarperUK> Entropy512: that hard?
<Entropy512> the bricks start piling up
<peterperfect> millions of users
<StevenHarperUK> Entropy512: I work for Orange Uk - we get early devices SIII's etc.....
<Entropy512> nice
<Entropy512> working for a carrier that doesn't suck
<Entropy512> :)
<Entropy512> that is not an option here in the USA
<StevenHarperUK> Entropy512: Yeh - I get Early Phones with Early ROMS ...
<Entropy512> http://review.cyanogenmod.com/#/c/14571/ - early work on NFC on I9100P
<Entropy512> we did the same on I777, but it was easier
<Entropy512> all I777 variants have NFC
<Entropy512> most I9100 variants (except the P) don't
luminoso has quit [Ping timeout: 260 seconds]
<StevenHarperUK> Entropy512: does the i9100P know it is a P ?
<Entropy512> in build.prop
<StevenHarperUK> Entropy512: Yeh but that would mean a separate build for it - wouldnt it
<Entropy512> Yeah, that's the problem
<supercurio> Entropy512, he confirms everything was working fine after flashing LQ5 CF-Root
<Entropy512> the P is not different enough to justify a fully separate tree
<StevenHarperUK> Entropy512: maybe somewhere in there - there is a Flag on the board
<Entropy512> the ONLY difference is NFC
<Entropy512> and unfortunately, I think the easiest way to tell (NFC service crashes or other bad shit) will negatively impact non-P devices
<StevenHarperUK> Entropy512: Can we not try to load the module - and trap the fail?
<Entropy512> problem is the NFC driver in the kernel loads fine
<StevenHarperUK> Entropy512: ah - its when it's used then
<Entropy512> in fact I think there may be a PN544 chip in non-P devices, but there is no antenna
<Entropy512> I think pulser managed to see a successful firmware load on a non-P once
<StevenHarperUK> @lol - maybe we can make it a checkbox in the Advanced...
<Entropy512> hmm maybe
<StevenHarperUK> I can do that easy
<StevenHarperUK> Same as the dock.
<StevenHarperUK> It *May take a reboot
<StevenHarperUK> but most could live with that
<Entropy512> it was much easier on the I777 since it has a number of other differences that necessitated a different device tree
<Entropy512> BTW as far as I can tell
<Entropy512> no secure element so no Google Wallet
<StevenHarperUK> Personally I dont care for NFC
<StevenHarperUK> Not like the Dock Audio.....
<StevenHarperUK> Has anyone tried the HDMI yet on CM10
<StevenHarperUK> I have a cable to do that here
