hi
<bmur>
Hello, I've decided to root my i777 currently running 2.3.4(gingerbread.uckh7). I'm going to use doomlords root and put the latest cyanogen mod on it. Also, should I put a custom kernel on it(siyah seems like a reliable/popular one..)? What program should I use to backup my contacts etc before i root?
<Jiangyi>
Hi.
<bmur>
anyone help?

<a3Dman>
bmur: it will be a huge leap :)
<a3Dman>
bmur: you don't need a custom kernel also
<a3Dman>
and I'm not sure about known issues with cm10.1 nightlies and i777
<a3Dman>
I have i910
<a3Dman>
i9100
<Jiangyi>
Basically the same device, those two.
<bmur>
i see
<bmur>
i also want to reformat or whatever the term is, when should i do that
<a3Dman>
after installing CM
<a3Dman>
you can format internal memory
white has quit [Ping timeout: 246 seconds]
<a3Dman>
otherwise installing CM requires removing data (factory reset) but it wont touch internal or external memory

<FreshMick>
The thing is I dont have an adapter to connect it to my PC.
<Yappy>
hmm, bummer :(
<FreshMick>
what about in CWM, Under Mounts and Storage, there is an option that says /format SD Card
<FreshMick>
but im not sure if its the internal SD or external SD
<Yappy>
probably internal
<FreshMick>
Why isnt the option made available under settings? :(
<Yappy>

Ow ok. And one more thing, this "Mediaserver" process is raping my battery. How do I stop that? I've read many giudes, but IU cant seem to make it stop :(
<Yappy>
no idea. i think mediaserver is the SD card scanning thing, actually. dont quote me on that though

Fresh, I had the issue recently (i9100, CM 10.1 20130217) and after uninstalling some recently installed apps the problem went away.
<Bert__>
Also had it on p7510 with a much more recent 10.1

how to take backup of downloaded CM10 repo ?
<Bert__>
I thought the same. For a couple of weeks Mediaserver went nuts, eating 30-40% of my battery. Uninstalled stuff, including some updated apps, and then the problem went away. I know it doesn't make too much sense, but hey, it works for me. My batt usage is back to normal.

how to take backup of downloaded CM10 repo ?
<fedevd>
For CM10 (forgot to say that)

There was some talk a few days ago that there were positive developments for CM 10.1 on i9100 in regards to the EFS corruption / soft-unlock issues. Was I dreaming?

hi all, i was trying to follow the guide for installing CyanogenMod in a samsung galaxy s2 (GT-i9100), afaik 'locked' by Vodafone Spain

on step 7, states: "The device will not reboot, rather will wait for you to reboot it to give enough time to enter recovery with the button combination", this means that i need to enter recovery mode with the key combination? or that i need to first reboot the phone once and then try to upload CyanogenMod zip to /sdcard ?
