<isd> Hey -- I'm trying to rig up something with ipNetwork, and I've got the client-side javascript POSTing a token to my app, but passing it to SandstormApi.restore is giving me an error that I'm not sure what to do with: https://isd.sandcats.io/shared/RKcSVxGtcPV_zLKxJA0g1qVPoilwG-YgnOVN0Qe4ry3
<isd> It appeared to be base64 encoded, so I decoded it and passed the raw bytes.
<isd> I'm... not really sure how to go about debugging this.
<isd> First, that *is* the correct method to be calling, yes? Talked to asheesh about it the other day, but wanted to confirm

<dwrensha> isd: you need to call `claimRequest()` to get a proper sturdyref
<dwrensha> isd: see the five steps in https://docs.sandstorm.io/en/latest/developing/powerbox/

<dwrensha> isd: I just noticed some outdated documentation: https://github.com/sandstorm-io/sandstorm/pull/2451
<dwrensha> isd: and you should pass the token to `claimRequest()` as you get it, without applying any encoding or decoding
<isd> dwrensha: thanks
<isd> i.e. leave it as what looks like base64?
<dwrensha> yeah
<dwrensha> it just looks like base64 because `Random.secret()` tries to use as many characters as possible, in order to pack in entropy while remaining text

<isd> How do I go about getting a SessionContext from a SandstormApi?

<isd> (Also, I wish I had something more immediately constructive to say, but the capnp sandstorm APIs are rather baroque, and I have never spend this much time trying to figure out how to get a tcp socket...)
<ocdtrekkie__> My God, I need a better place to put my mail than Gmail.
<isd> Ah, nevermind, it gets passed to newSession
<ocdtrekkie__> These soulless vampires tripled the size of the "DOWNLOAD GOOGLE CHROME" nag bar that shows up every week no matter how many times I click "Not Interested".
<isd> Ug, now I have to figure out how to wrangle this with the net/http wrapper I've built.
<isd> ocdtrekkie__: I run my own mail server. I can't really reccommend it, but it's an option. If it's just the ads, you could use a desktop mail client
<isd> I hope someday sandstorm is better equipped to handle non-web network services.
<ocdtrekkie__> The normal ads don't even bother me, isd. It's the way over the line nagging to get their shoddy browser specifically. It's now an inch tall bar. I've considered things like Fastmail, but I hate migrating email services, so yeah, I'm trying to hold out for Sandstorm doing mail.
<isd> ocdtrekkie__: fair enough. There is still the desktop client option
<isd> could still use gmail as a provider without using their web ui.
<ocdtrekkie__> You have to be a super desperate company trying to hang onto staying in business when you triple the size of your nag bar on someone who's already clicked your "Not interested" button fifty times on each computer they use.
<isd> I don't think google is doing too badly.
<ocdtrekkie__> Yeah, I'm thinking about it. But Gmail tends to work terribly with desktop clients that expect normal mail servers using normal mail organization methods.
<ocdtrekkie__> isd: You'd think they wouldn't need to harass people.
<isd> My memory of using thunderbird with it wasn't bad; I mostly just didn't touch the magic label folders and it worked like thunderbird. This was a long time ago though; it's been a while since I've actually used thunderbird
<isd> Yeah, it's annoying. This is why I go out of my way to not sign in to google on my phone.
<isd> Haven't done so recently, but last time I did --- OH GOD LEAVE ME ALONE
<isd> ...having the structs and methods mixed in capnp files makes it harder than it should be to tell what methods I need to implement at a glance.
<ocdtrekkie__> I had to turn off all the "magic" inbox sorting a long time ago for my Windows Phone. But yeah, even labels can be iffy on clients not written with labels in mind.
ecloud is now known as ecloud_wfb
<ocdtrekkie__> I replaced the Social tab with a filter that filtered items into a social label, because that at least shows up in IMAP.

<aeviator> Hi Everybody…is there anybody that could help me on Gitlab in Sandstorm?
<aeviator> Is there anyway one can use gitlab CI with the sandstorm grain, gitlab settings are really different from the latest version available on gitlab.com
<aeviator> bash --login '/Applications/Docker/Docker Quickstart Terminal.app/Contents/Resources/Scripts/start.sh'
<dwrensha> aeviator: sorry, our gitlab package currently does not support CI
<dwrensha> looks like one thing we'll need to work on powerbox integration first
<dwrensha> so that a GitLab grain can request the ability to talk to its CI runners
<aeviator> hi dwrensha, thanks for your reply! Is there anything I can do to get CI working (not necessary need to use gitlab CI)…in gitlab you normaly find the "services" section where you can notify e.g. an external travis CI instance
<dwrensha> I guess that would involve GitLab sending an HTTP POST to travis when commits get pushed?
<aeviator> guess it is like that
<aeviator> you can read more on http://docs.gitlab.com/ce/api/services.html
<aeviator> bash --login '/Applications/Docker/Docker Quickstart Terminal.app/Contents/Resources/Scripts/start.sh'
<aeviator> (sorry for that…)
<dwrensha> aeviator: looks like those things all require the GitLab to initiate requests to external services
<dwrensha> we'll need to work on interfacing with the powerbox to make that work

<asheesh> Hi katieirenec!
<katieirenec> Hi asheesh! I thought I had a sandstorm question, but then I fixed it.
<katieirenec> Turned out to be more of a settings question than a sandstorm question
<katieirenec> Maybe you'd be interested in it though -- on Mac OS X my console was reporting the same issue every 10 seconds: nfsd: Can't export /Users/katie/sandstorm: No such file or directory (2)
<katieirenec> I can't remember the status of Sandstorm on my machine---if it's properly installed or not.
<katieirenec> In any case, commenting out the sandstorm line in /etc/exports stopped the repeated console messages, I guess freeing up a couple CPU cycles :)

<asheesh> :)
<asheesh> Seems like you probably tried out Sandstorm via the Vagrantfile at some point, then.
<asheesh> And you presumably removed it, and now your system was wondering where it went, and the answer is, it went to a better place, the bitbucket.
Telesight has quit [Quit: Leaving.]
<katieirenec> That makes perfect sense. I guess when I removed it (however I did that) I didn't think to clean up /etc/exports. And the poor system has been wondering where it went for probably over a year.
<katieirenec> haha every 10 seconds :)
<katieirenec> Thanks asheesh!
<asheesh> That's an interesting and subtle and tragic side-effect of the NFS choice we made a while ago, so thank you for it! I hadn't thought about this before.
<katieirenec> Thanks for letting me tell you about it! I really wanted to share, and no one else was around.
