<digitalcircuit>
arcangel93: I'm using a small Intel Atom server motherboard with some BTRFS-formatted disks in RAID5. A bit slow at times, but works pretty well, and ~5 TB of redundant storage is nice.
<arcangel93>
digitalcircuit
<arcangel93>
hell yeah
<arcangel93>
I just spun up an instance at digital ocean
<asheesh>
digitalcircuit: Wow - it's nice to know that the documentation that I wrote is useful!
* asheesh
waves to all
<arcangel93>
hey asheesh i finally got it working
<arcangel93>
thanks btw
<asheesh>
You're welcome.
<asheesh>
Glad that you got things working.
<digitalcircuit>
arcangel93: Heh, a Digital Ocean instance -would- be less hassle, but then you don't get any of the joy of managing hardware errors and stuff :)
<digitalcircuit>
asheesh: certainly!
<asheesh>
BTW, what university are you at?
mnutt has joined #sandstorm
<arcangel93>
digitalcircuit:definately ;) I have a pi sitting on my desk
<arcangel93>
does sandstorm utilize docker?
<digitalcircuit>
Nice, arcangel93! I've considered experimenting with a Pi, but I've rescued enough old computers to not yet need it.
<arcangel93>
nice
<kentonv>
arcangel93: no, sandstorm doesn't use docker, but it does use the same underlying Linux kernel features.
<digitalcircuit>
asheesh: I'm over yonder at the University of Texas at Dallas.
<asheesh>
Oh, neat.
<asheesh>
I think zarvox is from Dallas, maybe.
<arcangel93>
interesting can i not run docker on the same server as a sandstorm instance
<asheesh>
Should work fine.
<asheesh>
I think a bunch of people do that.
<digitalcircuit>
asheesh, it's a small world after all..? :)
<asheesh>
And/or a big university (-;
<arcangel93>
ok I may have screwed up the docker install possible
<arcangel93>
*possibly
<arcangel93>
im used to ubuntu
<asheesh>
Then run Ubuntu!
<asheesh>
(If you want!) (Or don't, if you don't want!)
<arcangel93>
*im not used to it
<asheesh>
Oh! (-:
<arcangel93>
sorry a little blazed
<asheesh>
np
<arcangel93>
i had issues installing in fedora on my instance for some reason
<arcangel93>
i kept getting to a point where it only kicked back 3 dots
<arcangel93>
same with centos
<arcangel93>
but ubuntu set up with out a hitch
<arcangel93>
DigitalOcean gives you these premodified vms

<arcangel93>
or anyone who knows
<asheesh>
https://sandstorm.io/business has a "Contact Us" link, which is a form that gets a little bit of info from you then goes to Jade, a Sandstorm co-founder
<asheesh>
(along with kentonv who you spoke to here earlier)
<kentonv>
yo
<asheesh>
: )
<arcangel93>
hey kentonv
<kentonv>
hi
<arcangel93>
can i pm you a link to a sandstorm instance?
<kentonv>
sure, did you have a question about it?
<arcangel93>
yeah
<arcangel93>
let me know if i should send it again
<kentonv>
I got the link
<arcangel93>

<kentonv>

<arcangel93>
Im asking you to sign in the chat if that is ok with you
<kentonv>

I talked to the nice Nylas folks about how I was toying with packaging the sync-engine for Sandstorm, and how their existing auth scheme (secrets in username) can leak secrets into logs if people aren't aware of the implications, and asked if they might consider migrating to preferring to send the token as a password rather than a username
<zarvox>
No definitive answer yet, but it sounded like they'd discuss the possibility. So that's cool.
