tlv is short for type, lenght, value, but in alsa it's used to describe the dB values of a volume
<larsc>
maybe the patch title should have read 'Add dB information'
<larsc>
the patch in itself is just cosmetic
<larsc>
e.g. in alsamixer you'll now see dB values instead of percent values
<mth>
ok, thanks

wpwrak: get proper medication! Allergies get "trained", and you can make your immune system "forget" the allergy after some years, if you all the time stop the sympthoms so no further "training" happens
<DocScrutinizer05>
it's kinda like a negative vaccination
<Guest37051>
How to temporary disable screen time out?
<whitequark>
setterm -blank 0
<Guest37051>
thanks
<Guest37051>
my countdown script now has fancy fonts that fill the screen. :) will release update in a some days. bitcoin2012 conf is my foucs nowish.
<larsc>
DocScrutinizer05: I heard the reverse. If you treat the sympthoms it will get worse and you'll need more and more medication
<Guest37051>
spent a few hours reading alsa doc on dmix tried out configs off the wiki. apparently dmix should already be set-up out of the box. Any input?
<wpwrak>
DocScrutinizer05, larsc: all this suggests a high degree of randomness ;-)
<wpwrak>
and yes, i'm taking my pills. without them, i'd be quite useless for a good while
<DocScrutinizer05>
well, for me it worked
<wpwrak>
well, i'd still be a fairly efficient water-into-slime converter, even with a built-in complaint function, but ...
<DocScrutinizer05>
larsc: actually the antiallergica lose efficiency quite fast, so you need to switch type of medication every now and then
<larsc>
I grew up on a farm, but ever since I moved to the city I've started to become alergic to the country side
<wpwrak>
maybe it's psychological. suppression of childhood memories.
<DocScrutinizer05>
heard about that effect too, kinda. Most allergenes only trigger allergy on first contact, the symptoms only show up on *second* contact
<larsc>
it's like that with insects bites
<wpwrak>
i suspect it's more like cumulative effects. not necessarily strictly additive, but perhaps combinatorial. so as time goes on, you get allergic to more things.
<larsc>
but it's not like it's my second contact with country air
<larsc>
I actually blame it on my flatmates cat.
<wpwrak>
cats ... reviled since ancient times :)
<DocScrutinizer05>
the getting allergic to more things is a nasty effect where immune system shoots on innocent bystanders during a heavy battle
<DocScrutinizer05>
also during real flu
<DocScrutinizer05>
exposure to pollen while you carry a flu is prone to trigger allergy
<wpwrak>
bystanders, watch out when DocScrutinizer05 comes to town, wearing a black coat and armed with a flu ! :)

<DocScrutinizer05>
larsc: my first though (at that time unnoticed) allergy been against cat, when we had one. Some 2 years later grass allergy kicked in. When I left my parents' home I developed full symtoms on cat allergenes
<larsc>
Yea, I suppose something similar happend to me
<DocScrutinizer05>
never really noticed or took notice about the terrible itching when our cat scratched me
<DocScrutinizer05>
until I left "the cat's house" and from then on my eyes and nose and lungs showed real heavy symptoms on cats
<wpwrak>
didn't we evolve from rodents ? there you have remnants of the same good old survival instincts :)
<DocScrutinizer05>
hehe
<DocScrutinizer05>
funny factoid: the commonly blamed cat hair is completely innocent. It's either skin dandruff or the dried spittle of the cat's fur cleaning
<wpwrak>
therefore, bathe your cat daily with anti-dandruff shampoo
<DocScrutinizer05>
and there are actually enormous differences between two cats' allergenic properties
<Guest37051>
my nano note sounds like a hollywood bomb
<wpwrak>
since human skin, when damaged, tends to grow back a bit thicker than before, you should acquire the skin thickness necessary to withstand the cat's response to such treatment in relatively a short amount of time
<larsc>
another theory of mine is that some of this is due to my bad caffeine habit
