So i told this environmental agency about the neo900 merits in terms of ethical production and sourcing. However, the current landing page says nothing about that, so it can't be featured. Is this information displayed anywhere?

comradekingu: no, we missed on that
<Joerg-Neo900>
basically because, despite we care about environment aspects, we can't guarantee them since we have to use whatever we can get and that might be less optimal than what we would wish to do. thus we could face a situation where we regret we announced "green" and then can't deliver on that promise
<Joerg-Neo900>
for now all we can do is avoid coltan components in design as much as possible

Joerg-Neo900: So say that, RoHS compliance, reluctance to use conflict material, recycling, production, there is surely some points to be made.

There arent any perfect companies, in fact just a little effort puts it leaps and bounds ahead. Document what has been done and the stuff that is planned

As someone working in a different field, in a small to medium size company, I would think that the administrative burden of "ethical production and sourcing", "conflict free materials", and similar, would be rather brutal for a project the size of Neo900?
<ShadowJK>
Considering the tons of shit (in my field) go through for all of that, and it's a field with rather well defined certifications and theoretically simple easy peazy stuff...
<Joerg-Neo900>
indeed, if it was a strict policy
<Joerg-Neo900>
avoiding tantal capacitors in design is pretty easy
<Joerg-Neo900>
at least trying is easy
<Joerg-Neo900>
if you want to buy tantal caps with certified non-conflict tantal, it gets terribly messy, same for any similar purchase of material of controlled origin
<Joerg-Neo900>
anyway right now the main issue is manpower. Please feel invited to join the team and suggest "patches" e.g. for the website, and then *implement* them after they got approved
<comradekingu>
OK, I am a bit short on knowledge, but I know at least the above and that the production takes place in germany
<Joerg-Neo900>
consider Neo900 UG a company without any human resources
<comradekingu>
Sounds very humane :)
<Joerg-Neo900>
well, it felt inhumane when I been the only one doing any work for Neo900 during whole 2017. So yes, I can't sustain that since basically my medical doctor forbid
<Joerg-Neo900>
Neo900 turning into an even more community driven project. Community members update the website, maintain git, do layout, do PR... Please feel free to join the team, you're very welcome, Neo900 needs you
<houkime>
it is much better to be community-based really. And often cheaper
<houkime>
The connector for HB will be deprecated in July 18 however.
<houkime>
We need to replace it at some point
<houkime>
(there is a mark on the datasheet)
<DocScrutinizer51>
nice spotting. Tou refer to the 'TH' post connector?
<DocScrutinizer51>
the 2*10?
<DocScrutinizer51>
or the B2B conn between LOWER and BOB?
<houkime>
M50-3151042
<houkime>
CON1703
<DocScrutinizer51>
sorry cant look up right now
<houkime>
it is the hackerbus itself
<DocScrutinizer51>
that is a pretty standard post conn
<DocScrutinizer51>
shauld be easy to find a replacement
<houkime>
how is your way to a better OS?
<DocScrutinizer51>
sorry?
<houkime>
you said you can't use kicad5 until you have a modern OS installed.
<DocScrutinizer51>
aah OS
<DocScrutinizer51>
I need to do a backup and then upgrade mt workstation
<DocScrutinizer51>
my*
<houkime>
So what OS you're stuck with which won't compile kicad?
<DocScrutinizer51>
some old libs, not upgradeable
<DocScrutinizer51>
I managed to compile kicad4.0.x
<houkime>
ooopsie, seems like Arch updates have broken eeshow. Trying to recompile
