<dos1>
NSA and GCHQ breached into Gemalto for SIM card keys
<Sicelo>
yeah :(
<Sicelo>
things are happening really fast these days. and seems it is no longer about tracking 'big guys' only ... it is everyone
<mvaenskae>
Sicelo: they want to see how well their surveillance algos scale onto larger datasets ;)
<wpwrak>
rules of trust, #1: if a product contains anything that says "trusted", don't
paulk-collins has quit [Remote host closed the connection]
<mvaenskae>
wpwrak: i can trust it to spy on me ;)
<drathir>
dos1: yea have keys to decrypt communications...
<drathir>
they*
Kabouik has joined #neo900
<Pali>
why somebody (from NSA and other organisations) want to crash mobile phone communications and SIM cards??
<Pali>
phone communication encryption is only between phone and BTS
<Pali>
they just go to AT&T and their backdoor after BTS
<Pali>
and no cracking is needed!
<dos1>
they probably can't just go to any provider on the world
<ShadowJK>
att is onky one out of hundreds of operators
<dos1>
with keys, they don't have to
<ShadowJK>
yeo
<ShadowJK>
yep
<Pali>
every provider must do what governers say
<dos1>
but not what foreign ones say
<ShadowJK>
nsa and gchq doesn't have influence on every government. And even when they do, it's slow
<Pali>
and they must co-operate with justice and government
<dos1>
"GCHQ successfully intercepted keys used by wireless network providers in Iran, Afghanistan, Yemen, India, Serbia, Iceland and Tajikistan"
<dos1>
"denoted as “priority targets” in the document" (+ Pakistan)
<Pali>
anyway A5/1 cipher is already broken
<Pali>
and others probably too
<ShadowJK>
The dutch government seems like it wants to throw nsa and gchq in jail for breaking the law. I doubt ATT will cooperate in wiretapping nsa,though.
<dos1>
Pali: sure, 2G security is basically useless
<drathir>
rim is good but still need to be paid...
