Yes you need to have a screen attached for fbcon to start a framebuffer # i have read some forum posts that mention that you have to have an HDMI screen connected, or else there will be no framebuffer device added
<wens>
what do you need a framebuffer for?

MoeIcenowy: having the bootloader detect the revision of the board somehow and then load the proper DT / apply the overlay is your only real solution I'm afraid
<mripard>
ndufresne: you'll need an A33 or older to test that IIRC

mripard: ok, that being said, I'm glad I could expose the format, this was the gst specific bits, the intergration should be much easier when someone actually needs it
Ntemis has quit [Read error: Connection reset by peer]
<ndufresne>
I'll get that integrated if I come across one of these boards for sure
* ndufresne
having issues with wayland now,trying to fix that ....
<plaes>
ndufresne: any specific boards in mind? ;)
<ndufresne>
plaes: as mripard said, board that are tiled only (VPU to diplay) are the one that don't have linear decoding format support, so to integrate the 32x32 tile support I added in gst for the VPU, I'd need an A33 or older
<ndufresne>
uness there is a way to add direct NV12/32x32 into Lima driver, but not something I'm very skilled at hacking ;-P
<mripard>
ndufresne: the best (in the affordable and generally useful sense) for this would probably be an A20-Olinuxino or a Cubieboard
<mripard>
a lot of people have those, and it can only output the tiled format
<mripard>
(unlike the A33 for example which can output untiled as well, so we can work around the tiled format)
<ndufresne>
looks like pretty decent/actual boards
<ndufresne>
Kwiboo: is sunxi tiled supported in your ffmpeg port ?
<libv>
well, there's a 3.5y old running around here. he was not bringing home any virusses all winter, until just after fosdem, when he brought all of them home
<libv>
then he was back in kindergarten for a whole week, and then lockdown
<libv>
july 1st he was back in kindergarten, and now a cold virus spread, and a lot of his age group are home again.

Ive ordered this today, after having an intruder on our drive/garden last night.... https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B0829XWB45 While im sure the stock firmware would be ok... Does anyone know if theres any open source better OSs for these things?

<MoeIcenowy>
mripard: the board doesn't change, that means nothing can be detected by U-Boot
<MoeIcenowy>
maybe the only thing that can be used to differienate the boards is panel ID
vagrantc has quit [Quit: leaving]
<MoeIcenowy>
mripard: I hope the kernel can try both panels via ID
