<diizzy>
MoeIcenowy: Orange Pi PC2 fwiw, my other one works great
<diizzy>
...and it work fine before it overheated
<diizzy>
Ashleee: that looks like its going to fall apart at anytime ;)
<montjoie>
KotCzarny: hé hé hé
<KotCzarny>
:)
<Ashleee>
diizzy, yeah, there's about 1.5mm thick walls in some places so it is bending a lot :D which is why I found those cheap 1U shelves and going to switch to those as bases
<montjoie>
note that I need to publish the updated lab 4
<KotCzarny>
all those diy mounting solutions are a great ideas mine
<diizzy>
Ashleee: Yeah, PETG would probably be more suitable
<Ashleee>
yeah
<Ashleee>
or just aluminum/iron :D
<Ashleee>
and then 3D print just small cases for each that slides in
<KotCzarny>
drilling in metal is awful
<KotCzarny>
lots of tiny dust
<diizzy>
"Printing" iron will be a bit hard, at least at home ;-P
<Ashleee>
pfft
<Ashleee>
haha
<Ashleee>
drilling is fine, last time I drilled with 3 cats around me
<Ashleee>
and an accu drill that has been turned into wired drill
<KotCzarny>
try that without protective glasses
<Ashleee>
with old printer power supply that cannot hold high RPM :D
<Ashleee>
what glasses?
<Ashleee>
:)
<KotCzarny>
get a tiny speck on metal in the eye
<KotCzarny>
you will know what glasses
<diizzy>
and your f'ed
<Ashleee>
I don't have high enough RPM drill for that, also I always keep my distance
<Ashleee>
I've had metalwork stuff at school for a year
<Ashleee>
and almost killed somebody by an accident :)
<Ashleee>
with a lathe
<diizzy>
Speaking if printing, it like I need to make my own case with pcie card support for the rockpro64 :/
abelvesa has joined #linux-sunxi
iyzsong has quit [Read error: Connection reset by peer]
abelvesa has quit [Remote host closed the connection]
<montjoie>
anyway, FTDI are 15€, cuting them is hard
gaston1980 has joined #linux-sunxi
<montjoie>
but I found FTDI on aliexpress without thecable (and cheaper)
<wens>
beware of counterfeits
<montjoie>
yes cheapest one does not have the serialID, which is a requirement
<montjoie>
but I found some which have it
<Ashleee>
wow I literally replaced a power supply and several cables because some devices were suddenly "dying" only to find out I had losened one screw and it was creating about 500mV drop on it...
<wens>
hell__: I remember a picture showing an Intel chip with the socket pulled off the motherboard ...
<hell__>
sounds painful
<wens>
Werner: these look nice
<MoeIcenowy>
wens: I usually see pictures about AMD chips stuck to the cooler
<MoeIcenowy>
;-)
<hell__>
ah yes, that too
[AAAIIGHT] is now known as [LAWNMOWERMAN]
<wens>
hell__: only the end result was shown. I for one am very curious how it happened
<hell__>
MoeIcenowy: that also happened with socket 478 Pentium 4's
<megi>
surface mounted socket?
<MoeIcenowy>
I think for boards that need heatsink
<MoeIcenowy>
they *should* have mount holes
<hell__>
the CPU would come along the heatsink, because the thermal paste was stronger than the retention mechanism
<MoeIcenowy>
in this case our heat inducting material can do what it should do only
<megi>
these opi pcs don't really need a heatsink though
<wens>
megi: probably the old ZIF sockets
<megi>
I just added them for effect and to make cleaning harder
<MoeIcenowy>
yes, I think OPi PCs work well @1.2GHz w/o heatsink
<megi>
that's why I also screw them all together to one block
<MoeIcenowy>
OPi PCs have good passive cooling themselves
<mru>
the amd sp3 socket seems rather bullet-proof
<wens>
they are quite warm though
<wens>
mru: hence the "pulled off" socket? :p
<hell__>
CPU stuck to heatsink wasn't much of a problem, you just had to be careful not to lower the heatsink against the socket (would easily cause bent pins)
<wens>
only the solder balls remained
<MoeIcenowy>
I have also a SBC stack made with screws
<mru>
wens: it's bolted through the PCB
<MoeIcenowy>
but it's mixed, with ALL-H3-CC H5 + BPi M2 Berry + Rock64
<MoeIcenowy>
even SoC vendor is mixed ;-)
<mru>
and a bolted-down bracket holds the cpu in place
<hell__>
LGA sockets apply pressure, so they need to be reinforced
<megi>
this is a mix of PC and PC2's
<wens>
I always found the stand-offs don't align correctly when stacking boards
<megi>
and some One's on the side
<MoeIcenowy>
BTW
<megi>
also the heat increases from bottom to top
<MoeIcenowy>
with the newly introduced USB2.0 HDMI capture card (according to cnx-software, sold at $11, but I got it in China only with around ~$7
<megi>
each level has a higher temperature :)
<MoeIcenowy>
maybe we can mess with some more strange things on CI ;-)
<wens>
megi: lay it on its side then?
<megi>
that risks that when one heatsink separates it will short the board above it
<megi>
I just blow some air from the side
<KotCzarny>
MoeIcenowy: does it work?
<KotCzarny>
ie. not a scam?
<megi>
USB 2.0?
<MoeIcenowy>
KotCzarny: it is heavily restricted by the bandwidth of USB2
<KotCzarny>
video card on usb
<MoeIcenowy>
for 720p60/1080p30 it needs to be MJPG compressed
<megi>
does it encode to some crappy h264?
<megi>
ah
<MoeIcenowy>
it encodes to MJPG
<KotCzarny>
720p isnt bad, even if mjpg
<MoeIcenowy>
or you can get 720p10 or 1080p5 at uncompressed YUV
<MoeIcenowy>
yes, not good, but I think it's really worth $10
<megi>
I could use that, I have a good quality camcoder that can live output to HDMI, but capturing that is expensive
<KotCzarny>
oh right, have you checked encrypted video?
<MoeIcenowy>
nope
<MoeIcenowy>
I have no encrypted video source
<KotCzarny>
run android? ;)
<megi>
do you have a link? I can't find it on cnx
<KotCzarny>
megi: lots of them on aliexpress
<KotCzarny>
just sort by price
<megi>
are they all the same thing?
<MoeIcenowy>
megi: yes
<MoeIcenowy>
even the same marking on the shell
<MoeIcenowy>
KotCzarny: I have android phone with video out
<KotCzarny>
dvd player might work too
<MoeIcenowy>
but I never subscribe to something that needs DRM
<KotCzarny>
netflix?
<KotCzarny>
:)
<MoeIcenowy>
is there any free encrypted videos on NF to try?
