<KotCzarny>
pretty awesome when it comes to available thingies
<karlp>
now we're talking.
<karlp>
still don't need hdmi, but finally getting the compact form factor with both ethernet+wifi is awsome
<fALSO>
i think that 512mb is quite crappy
<fALSO>
at least for my use case
<fALSO>
but its cool probably for other uses
<KotCzarny>
karlp, yeah, but better to have it than not, since it's already in soc
<KotCzarny>
someone was asking about opi+2e contender, this thingie might be it, although thermally might be horrendous
<KotCzarny>
karlp, 100mbit only tho
<KotCzarny>
probably due to lack of space
<karlp>
100mbit completely fine for me.
<KotCzarny>
but that thing has usb2
<KotCzarny>
usb3
<KotCzarny>
anyway, amazingly packed thingie
<KotCzarny>
now all it needs is all metal case for good thermals

<antoine89>
hi. sorry to bother. PM me if you can tell me how to reinstall uboot on A20Lime2
<fALSO>
just dd it to the card?
<antoine89>
thx. I am newb. is it not installed in some internal memory called SPI?
<fALSO>
i never played with the a20
<fALSO>
on mine orange pi's uboot is always on the beggning of the sd cards
<libv>
antoine89: what happened?
<fALSO>
antoine89, no help on private
<fALSO>
ask here
<antoine89>
ok, because i found these packages, and I thought I could just install them and I would get a new uboot: ftp://staging.olimex.com/Allwinner_Images/A20-OLinuXino/1.latest_mainline_images/buster/debs/

I really want to replace my old uboot, and I think it is installed in the internal memory. I read the instructions here: ftp://staging.olimex.com/Allwinner_Images/A20-OLinuXino/1.latest_mainline_images/buster/debs/ . But I dont want to replace it on sdcard. I want to write it in teh SPI flash. Am I correct, and do you know a way?
<antoine89>
@diego71. thanks I am familiar with flashrom, I will look into it. I am running armbian image of debian buster, made for the A20Lime2. My A20Lime2 has no internal memory and uses microSD to run https://www.armbian.com/olimex-lime-2/
<diego71>
karlp: cool
<diego71>
antoine89: make a backup of the current content of the spi flash
<diego71>
before starting, you probably will need it
* karlp
pokes the wiki a little
<antoine89>
@karlp I will check out the sunxi-tools and FEL mode as well. thank you. @diego71 that is always a good idea
cnxsoft has quit [Quit: cnxsoft]

sunxi-fel can read it too.
<karlp>
flashrom needs to be done from a running system iirc.
<antoine89>
didnt get to it yet. my system is functional so I would like to try flashrom first because I am familiar with it. Thank you very much for now. This was very helpful. I will stay in chat and give updates
<karlp>
works good, would buy again, a+++ sunxier...

<antoine89>
couldnt get a connection via microUSB to the board while in FEL mode. IDK why. so meanwhile i had tried to do it over usb from within uboot by using dfu-tool on my PC as suggested here: https://www.olimex.com/wiki/ArmbianHowTo but that failed too because the uboot would not show me the partitions or activate the dfu protocol
<antoine89>
now I am back to trying to get a connection in FEL mode. Do you know why I could not connect detect the microUSB connection to my PC while in FEL mode?
<karlp>
hwo did you know you were in fel mode? or how did you get into fel mode?
<antoine89>
i held the recovery button pressed and plugged in power. the board was on, but nothing was showing on my hdmi screen
<antoine89>
also tried to get into FEL mode by executing 'efex' while in uboot and didnt work. also tried executing 'go 0xffff0020' but that only reset the board
<antoine89>
so when i held revocery button pressed I assumed I was in FEL
<antoine89>
should I try to burn the FEL image to microSD and boot from it?
<antoine89>
normally the microUSB connection gets detected, so theres either something wrong with FEL or I wasnt in it

I got a return from the command 'sunxi-fel version' however I didnt get a return from the command ' sudo sunxi-fel spiflash-info'
<antoine89>
does this mean that there is no SPI flash chip?
<antoine89>
i just booted an old android image and there is no trace of the old uboot, so it must have only been wtitten on the sdcard

<rellla>
manual creation of an sd card image for aarch64 is sparely documented. seems i need to transfer my logs to the wiki later...
<rellla>
tbh it's currently a mess ...
<anarsoul>
?

anarsoul: i'm currently building an sd card from scratch according to our manual_build_howto - and as a aarch64-noob i must admit, it's a mess
Putti has quit [Ping timeout: 258 seconds]
<rellla>
as it's nearly not documented. sd card for arm64/H5 btw
<anarsoul>
it's just a matter of putting u-boot at specific offset and that's it
reinforce has quit [Quit: Leaving.]
<rellla>
anarsoul: it's a bit more. right CROSS_COMPILE everywhere, sunxi_defconfig is defconfig, zImage is Image aso ...
<rellla>
i won't say it's difficult, but it simply is not well documented atm. i feel, like i'm the first one, that does it ...
<anarsoul>
that's regular aarch64, nothing specific to sunxi
<rellla>
yeah, but still not that comfortably c&p-able from linux-sunxi wiki like for armhf :)
<rellla>
and to avoid some issues ... what is different with the offets?
<anarsoul>
no idea, I've never had a board with 32-bit sunxi :)
<rellla>
haha
<rellla>
you are coming from the post-cubieboard-era, right :) ?
<anarsoul>
rellla: I jumped from armv5 to armv8
<anarsoul>
well, I have rpi (which is armv6) but I've never done any development for it
