mripard: let me explain how I found this discrepancy ... I've received A64-Olinuxino sample recently ... It has eMMc but also was unstuffed SPINOR ... I've stuffed it ...

<martinayotte>
Trying to load SPINOr overlay, pinctrl complains that PC1 is already in use ... looking at A64-Olinuxino, I dont'saw any reason why PC1 should ne use by MMC2 since it is not connected at all to eMMC.
<martinayotte>
Looking at many other schematics of board with eMMC I owned, such as OPiPC2, the PC2still not connected to eMMC, and still dedictated to SPIO_MISO on all those boards.
<martinayotte>
Thatś why I'm asking if there a specific board which PC1 should be SDC2_DS, for which DS means DataStrobe, I'm presume, but I've not seen any schematic using it ...
<martinayotte>
If the majority of boards don't use PC1, maybe the default MMC2 should not use it, and this minority board should be handled with overlay ... Preventing SPI0 to be prohibited to be prohibited on mast majority of boards ...

Hi. I have a board with an LCD and a RCA video output with linux-sunxi 3.4, Xorg and sunxi-mali (EGL type = x11). I've configured in .fex file to clone the image for both video outputs. However, some applications are displayed only in the LCD, and not in the second monitor.
<naggety>
I think that it's not cloned the video rendered by the GPU. For example, a QT Quick program or a Gstreamer pipeline using glimagesink.
beeble_ is now known as beeble

It also happen something similar with video playing using vdpau (in second monitor I have a black square instead of video). But I think this is expected to happen, right?

<ildar>
One question rolling in my mind.
<ildar>
They put much effort upstreaming some HW platforms to Linux Vanilla
<ildar>
but never to the LineAge OS (aka CyanogenMod) ?
<ildar>
this looks very logical to me. May there be a special reason for that?
<ildar>
I mean sunxi , of course.
<ildar>
opinions are welcome too )))

<Ke>
ildar: imo upstream is the only real target that way everyone gets the changes at some point
<Ke>
on vendor branches very often the changes will just eventually die
<ildar>
yes, I agree. This is a very important part
<ildar>
I applauded when first read about this FreeElectrons initiative.
<Ke>
also if you have influence in the upstream, you get more influence by using that influence
<Ke>
on the other hand, you will lose your status by not shipping to upstream
<ildar>
Yet having this in Linux Vanilla doesn't effectively bring this to end-users. Yet LA/CM is the straight way to end-users.
<Ke>
having control of strategic subsystems in linux, will probably be of value to consultancy firm like Bootlin
<ildar>
e.g. if sunxi was in LA/CM we'd have up-to-date Android anytime we want.
<ildar>
Sure. I wonder if their work was 1-step available to end-users that could raise their influence too
<ildar>
wa-du-ya-think?
<ildar>
and actually LineAge OS is a "window" to many other niches/OS/whatever.

I would bet LineageOS can also update to upstreamish kernel, if it is workable on the hw
<wens>
and drm_hwcomposer
<ildar>
I modestly guess that if a platform upstreamed to some level , it is quite simple to have LA build
<ildar>
or am I missing something?
<wens>
no idea. not into Android
<ildar>
e.g. sunxi parts are already upstreamed. There are Android builds for sunxi already. I guess it should be doable.

No, that doesn't seem to be the cause. Using Gstreamer with glimagesink I do have cloned video output.

jstefanop: it's unsupported and dangerous to do it
<jstefanop>
MoeIcenowy: is this the reason why 1Mbps uart is running at 750 Kbps though?
<MoeIcenowy>
jstefanop: it's the reason that the base baud is 24MHz/16 = 1.5Mbps.
<MoeIcenowy>
24MHz from APB
<MoeIcenowy>
APB from oscilator
<MoeIcenowy>
so you need to change APB mux or osc
<MoeIcenowy>
although the first is doable, it may lead peripherals to be unstable

MoeIcenowy: custom_divisor in user space will do anything?
<jstefanop>
otherwise how would we change APB to test
<MoeIcenowy>
custom_divisor?
<MoeIcenowy>
to change APB you must change the U-Boot and Linux source
<jstefanop>
in /sys/class/tty/ttyS2/
<MoeIcenowy>
it's the divisor of 1.5Mbps
<MoeIcenowy>
no relation to the bus clk/sample clk
<jstefanop>
so need APB 13 to support 1Mbps?
<MoeIcenowy>
APB 16 or any times of 16
juri_ has joined #linux-sunxi
<jstefanop>
Its set to 16 default no? 16 wont support 1Mpbp...when sending B1000000 to UART open command UART runs at 750kbps

jstefanop, there was someone in here who had done what you're looking to do before. Check the archives.
<willmore>
The way the clocking for the UART works is that the master clock (24MHz) is divided by 16 as part of the TX/RX process. That can further be divided by a (16 bit I think) integer to get slower rates.
<willmore>
So, 24/16/1 gives 1.5MHz. 24/16/2 is the next step and that's 750KHz. It goes down from there--500, 375, 300, 250...
<willmore>
You can change the master clock speed to something else, but then you have to adjust all the divisors to compenstate. I think the person who was asking before worked it all out and got much higher speeds, but I don't remember the details.
<willmore>
The behavior of giving you a speed that you didn't ask for is a legacy UART behavior going back decades. IIRC, there was a newer IOCTL which allows for a better interface, but libc may not use it by default, you may have to fiddle with things on your own.
