<daveshah> Hi I'm trying to bring up a custom board with an A64 and two AS4C256M16D3A-12BCN 4Gbit x16 DDR3 memory chips and I'm struggling with the boot0
<daveshah> My first attempt of using a Pine64 image failed with a DDR3 error
<daveshah> I see

<daveshah> DRAM zq value: 003b3bbb
<daveshah> DRAM error status 0
<daveshah> DRAM init error!
<daveshah> initializing SDRAM Fail.

<daveshah> Small progress on the problem I posted earlier - I'm now getting a "DRAM DQS gate training error" with the Olimex TERES boot0 and fex file
<daveshah> I think I need to tweak the DDR3 params in that file, anyone know anything about these?
<tkaiser> http://www.xradiotech.com/product/XR933.php -- does this look similar to A33 + embedded XR819?
<tkaiser> At least this should be the same as Allwinner's G202: http://www.xradiotech.com/product/XR923.php
<MoeIcenowy> tkaiser: yes it look like
<tkaiser> MoeIcenowy: I wonder whether those xradio folks are aware how crappy their driver is...
<MoeIcenowy> in fact I have no experience on Linux 3.4 + xr819
<MoeIcenowy> as I never booted my opi0 with legacy kernel
<tkaiser> MoeIcenowy: They're at 3.10 already ;) Their latest code drop contained modifications for 'more recent' kernel: http://kaiser-edv.de/tmp/lGtv38/patch-add-support-xr819.tar.gz
<MoeIcenowy> but I think the 3.10 should be not for XR933 ;-)
<MoeIcenowy> P.S. the DE version proves that if it's an existing AW design co-packaged with XR card, that it must be A33 -- Quad-Core, Mali, DE1.0, the design that has these is only A33
<tkaiser> MoeIcenowy: Allwinner is talking about R16 here: http://www.cnx-software.com/2017/05/09/allwinner-g202-dual-core-processor-is-designed-for-smart-wifi-speakers/#comment-542052 (so they may sell this A33 as R16M for Music or something like that ;) )
<KotCzarny> lol, music?
<MoeIcenowy> KotCzarny: for speakers
afaerber has joined #linux-sunxi
<tkaiser> Or total surveillance (Amazon Echo like)
<MoeIcenowy> tkaiser: G202 may be sun8iw10?
<MoeIcenowy> sun8iw10 is dual-core
<MoeIcenowy> now we have known sun8iw1, 2, 3, 5, 6, 7, 8, 11
<MoeIcenowy> and know that w4 doesn't exist
<MoeIcenowy> w9 and w10 are still mysterious
<MoeIcenowy> w9 is a hexa-core (2 clusters, 3 core per cluster)
<MoeIcenowy> w10 is a dual-core
<beeble> daveshah: you may want to use mainline for better control of the dram setup
<MoeIcenowy> beeble: in fact mainline have not too much control on dram setup
<beeble> MoeIcenowy: you can change the source :)
<MoeIcenowy> ah-oh
<KotCzarny> that eth dongle is sad
<KotCzarny> moeicenowy: apparently w10p1 is b288
<MoeIcenowy> KotCzarny: ?
<MoeIcenowy> P.S. could you find w9?
<KotCzarny> so w9 might be either skipped or some specialized chip too
<MoeIcenowy> it's not skipped
<MoeIcenowy> in the smp code of w6 there's ifdef's for w9
<MoeIcenowy> but maybe they're specialized

<MoeIcenowy> oh the allwinner eink controller's source is not blob ;-)
<jelle> :O
<MoeIcenowy> KotCzarny: w10 being B288 seems to be correct
<MoeIcenowy> w10 has eink
<jelle> MoeIcenowy: are there devices with eink and allwinner then?
<MoeIcenowy> I don't know
<KotCzarny> yes, there are
<KotCzarny> for example old a13 eink readers
<KotCzarny> :)
<jelle> hackable eink would be neat indeed
<KotCzarny> didnt see newer ones though (could be that no one just opened one yet)
indy has joined #linux-sunxi
<KotCzarny> jelle: i bought one, tried some update from the internet and apparently that burned eink controller :/
<jelle> :X
<KotCzarny> everything works, but i cant communicate with it via i2c anymore
<KotCzarny> and in ther result, cant turn the display on
<KotCzarny> which is a pity, because when it was working, it was quite nice to read
<KotCzarny> 35 (config 1677) -- : $ make sun8iw9p1_config
<KotCzarny> w9p1 chip id is 1677
<KotCzarny> but it also says on the next line:
<KotCzarny> 36 (config 1699) B100 : $ make sun8iw10p1_config
<KotCzarny> heck.
<deskwizard> KotCzarny: no chance the update changed the default i2c bus speed ?
<KotCzarny> deskwizard: tried to build new kernel, uboot commands etc. other 2 devices on the bus work
<deskwizard> KotCzarny: aight, was quite a shot in the dark hehe RIP eink :(
<KotCzarny> deskwizard: if you have any ideas (even crazy ones) i'm all ears (eyes)
<mripard> Net147: for quilt
<MoeIcenowy> Allwinner B288 has even no dev boards on taobao
<MoeIcenowy> totally no
<MoeIcenowy> and no chip resellers
<Net147> mripard: I see. it's missing patch 0008.
<deskwizard> KotCzarny: well that was pretty much the one I had, I'm not sure of the behavior that would be seen if that was it, I'd probably try it nontheless, of course the other 2 devices wont work, but for a test... also, if you have access to the controller datasheet, have a look if its a multiple bus device, ie. can be either i2c or spi, something along those lines

<Ke> tkaiser: with my Asus C201 brcmfmac as client
<Ke> idVendor=148f, idProduct=5572
<daveshah> Is there an open source boot0 for the A64? Or do you have to use the closed blob? The former would make DDR3 debugging easier
<Ke> with default antennas obviously
<tkaiser> Ke: 8.9MB/s or Mbits/sec?

<hoijui> i managed to get my A10 to boot with root on a SATA disc, but it mounts it as ext3 while it is ext4 (and again, all info on the /boot partition indicates that it is ext4), and i guess in turn of that, the space of the partition (/) is shown as the currently used size (~300MB), while the partition really is more then 100GB
<hoijui> i imagine the problem is, that the root partition i had on the SD card was ext3
<hoijui> and some part must still be using that
tkaiser has joined #linux-sunxi

<[TheBug]> um
<[TheBug]> you still booting off sdcard?
<[TheBug]> you may not have right settings in your u-boot
<hoijui> what does that mean, in my uboot?
<hoijui> which file would that be?
<[TheBug]> its probably mount the sdcard on top of your drive as /boot
<hoijui> hmm.. that would make sense..
<hoijui> yeah..
<hoijui> df --si
<hoijui> rootfs 309M 309M 0 100% /
<hoijui> Filesystem Size Used Avail Use% Mounted on
<hoijui> rootfs 309M 309M 0 100% /
<[TheBug]> http://linux-sunxi.org/Mainline_U-Boot <- review Configure U-Boot assuming you are using mainline u-boot
<hoijui> df shows two things mounted on /
<hoijui> rootfs and /dev/root
<[TheBug]> cause it probably mounted teh sdcard on top of your hard drive because you don't have config right
<[TheBug]> you can probably unmount the additional mount
<[TheBug]> mount -l will show whats mounted where
<[TheBug]> hoijui: https://romanrm.net/a10/debian-hdd-root <- this will probably help you
<hoijui> mount -l only shows one of them :/
<[TheBug]> too bad roman doesn't idle here
<hoijui> thanks [TheBug] :) but.. i see nothign new there
<hoijui> uEnv.txt and boot.cmd and boot.scr all have the right stuff already
<hoijui> i would say (its from forums, form others, for whom it works)
<hoijui> its just that.. when i change those files, nothign really seems to change
<hoijui> the actual settings used seem to come from somewhere else
<hoijui> the only thing that changed somethign so far, was when i generated initrd
<hoijui> which now i can not do anymore, cause the tools are not installed on the SATA root FS, and i can not install them cause the space is maxed (the original problem)
<hoijui> i guess in the end i just have to do everythign from the start again
<hoijui> using ext4 for the SD card aswell
<hoijui> well.. not today anymore
<hoijui> thank you! :-)
<[TheBug]> well problem is I don't know what you did or didn't do
<[TheBug]> so kinda hard to guess why your in the position your in
<[TheBug]> there are a few different things that can cause what you describe
<[TheBug]> so yes, may be best to try from beginning and see if you have same issue
