<slapin> good morning, all!
<slapin> how can I make u-boot save environment so it would read it afterwards?
<slapin> ah, sorry for the noise
<slapin> it just does have 'save' command which interfered with my world awareness
Andy-D has quit [Ping timeout: 240 seconds]
<slapin> well, I want to add my custom mode of 1440x900 as u-boot doesn't support it, should I edit u-boot source or I can set it via environment variables somehow?
<KotCzarny> i dont think sunxi devices support such resolution
<KotCzarny> which device?

<slapin> KotCzarny: olinuxino-a13
<slapin> KotCzarny: well, it supports the mode, but a bit flickers, probably some analog problems on the board...
<KotCzarny> how do you set it ?
<slapin> KotCzarny: I added the line {1440, 900, 60, 9187, 108840, 232, 80, 28, 1, 152, 3, FB_SYNC_VERT_HIGH_ACT, FB_VMODE_NONINTERLACED} to drivers/video/videomodes.c
<slapin> KotCzarny: then I set video-mode variable to 'sunxi:1440x900-24@60'
<KotCzarny> so, not via display mode, but just fb mode?
<slapin> KotCzarny: ?
<KotCzarny> does your monitor supports displaying what mode it is on?
<slapin> KotCzarny: it is native mode of the monitor
<KotCzarny> yes, but it can display info what mode is device trying to use
<slapin> KotCzarny: it is old VGA-only LCD monitor, Acer AL1916W
<KotCzarny> still, in menu it should have some debug info, just to confirm your a13 is really trying to use that resolution
<KotCzarny> ahm, that olinuxino has native vga ?
<slapin> KotCzarny: yes, it does display 1440x900 HL56KHz V:60Hz
<KotCzarny> Due to the bandwidth limitations of the A13 SoC, the best resolution you can hope for is 800x600.
domidumont has quit [Ping timeout: 276 seconds]
<slapin> KotCzarny: olinuxino-a13 uses DAC to convert from LCD pins to VGA
<slapin> KotCzarny: it is not micro variant
<KotCzarny> doesnt matter
<KotCzarny> nonmicro has the same components/setup
<slapin> KotCzarny: yes and you can see VGA connector on the photo
<KotCzarny> yes, and i can see the 'Due to the bandwidth limitations of the A13 SoC, the best resolution you can hope for is 800x600' information that can provide a clue of the source of flickering you experience
<slapin> KotCzarny: I think this info is obsolete, as there is no flickering on 1024x768, and this mode is default for some reason...
<KotCzarny> still, if it had any bandwidth issues, then 1440x900 is almost 2x of the 1024x768 bandwidth
<slapin> (but strangely enough there is no default video-mode in u-boot environment for any of the boards... there is some bug somewhere in configuration, as there is 800x600 setting in config file(
<slapin> KotCzarny: yeah, I see, will try to reduce dot clock via smaller refresh rate...
<slapin> KotCzarny: for some reason 1360x768 doesn't flicker too... but dot clock is 85MHz, while my 1440x900 mode dot clock is 106MHz... hmmmm

<ryanR> Hi, I'm new to this and I'm trying to compile U-Boot, but I'm getting errors. I'm not really sure where to go. Can anyone on here help me out? Point me in the right direction maybe?
<ryanR> BTW: I'm trying to cross compile for an A20-OlinuXino_MICRO on a debian jessie box
<plaes> which tutorial are you following?
<plaes> and where do you fail?
<ryanR> make CROSS_COMPILE=arm-linux-gnueabihf-
<plaes> have you installed cross compiler?
<ryanR> yes
<plaes> ok.. can you paste errors somewhere?
<ryanR> I'm building on another machine, I'll try to type them here though
<jelle> best to use a pastebin
<plaes> yeah
<ryanR> what's that?
<plaes> fpaste.org
<plaes> ...or any other similar service...
<plaes> ha.. that's something new
<plaes> do you have 'ARCH=arm' in your command line when building?
<ryanR> nope
<plaes> ok, can you clean up and try with 'make ARCH=arm CROSS_COMPILE...
<ryanR> ok, I'll try that
<ryanR> failed at same spot .. http://fpaste.org/329196/10126145/
<plaes> hrm.. dunno
<plaes> something is messed up
<KotCzarny> you can also try building on device itself
<ryanR> Yeah, that's always an option
<ryanR> but this should work
<plaes> or make with verbose option
<plaes> make V=1 (or whatever variable u-boot's Makefile is using)
<KotCzarny> another question, where did you get the uboot sources?
reinforce has quit [Quit: Leaving.]
<ryanR> git://git.denx.de/u-boot.git
<ryanR> v2016.01
<KotCzarny> try on-device build then
<KotCzarny> maybe the gcc you are using is funky
<ryanR> hmm... it should be using gcc-ar-4.9
<plaes> no
<plaes> it should be using cross-ar
<MY123> epic win
<ryanR> ok, I ran make with V=1 and I got a lot of info
<ryanR> gcc is failing
<ryanR> now I need to figure out why
<montjoie> tkaiser: The rebased patch could be found at http://sunxi.montjoie.ovh/patchs_current/

<tkaiser> montjoie: Thx, why temporarely disable USB?
<tkaiser> keh: Grab gdisk und try it with the ID you get there
<tkaiser> keh: I'm talking about root=PARTUUID= for kernel command line
<keh> well, it is working now. I changed everything in etc fstab to sdaX and for each of my 4 reboots now I changed a partition to boot by uuid. now everything is working.
<keh> ah, yea. root=PARTUUID= I have to change too. thanks tkaiser

<apritzel> montjoie: btw: if you paste several patches together (cat 000?-*.patch > driver.mbox), you get a single mbox file which "git am" takes as well
<apritzel> montjoie: this is easier to maintain and spread around
<ryanR> plaes: I figured out my issue with building u-boot by the way. I had to explicity set the CC=, LD= and OBJCOPY= options on the command line to tell make to use the arm-linux-gnueabihf versions. For some reason CROSS-COMPILE wasn't working.
<ryanR> plaes: thanks for your help
<apritzel> ryanR: do you use a different triplet, by any chance? Does "${CROSS_COMPILE}gcc -v" work? And does the content of CROSS_COMPILE end with a dash?

<montjoie> plaes: ok
vagrantc has joined #linux-sunxi
<tkaiser> montjoie: Ok, I already applied the necessary patches and enjoy USB on H3 and now your patches break (dtc)
<apritzel> is this about the kernel not supporting the H3 USB at all? Then it shouldn't matter whether you have DT nodes or not ...
<apritzel> or is that because the USB driver hangs due to missing resets on initialization?

<tkaiser> apritzel: USB is working fine on H3
<apritzel> tkaiser: with the patches from Hans on the list?
<tkaiser> I think montjoie didn't applied all the available patches. They're not scattered that much around but all in one place: https://github.com/ssvb/linux-sunxi/commits/20151223-h3-mainline-smp-hack
<tkaiser> Armbian applies them also (https://github.com/ThomasKaiser/lib/commit/79c7662a491b46caf07f05880403903dccc33cd1) and I just build Armbian images with 4.4.2 :)
<tkaiser> I ran a NAS on an OPi PC since weeks. It's also faster since the USB-Ethernet dongle supports GbE and the disks benefit from UASP
<apritzel> tkaiser: Ah, OK, good stuff, looks like I can cherry pick from there
<apritzel> but USB is one thing that's different between H3 and A64

<tkaiser> apritzel: longsleep: I remember you talked about GbE issues on the Pine64+
<apritzel> tkaiser: yeah, so far with the BSP driver
<apritzel> (on their 3.10.65 kernel)
<tkaiser> If Ethernet is identical on H3/A83T/A64 wouldn't it make sense to have a look in another crappy BSP (3.4.39 for H3/A83T)?
<apritzel> seems like this isn't fixed in the official Android image as well
<apritzel> My time is too precious for looking at anything < 4.0 ;-)
<apritzel> I will rather debug montjoie driver
<tkaiser> I know, I'm also cured from this 3.4.x thing after the last two weeks bringing Armbian with 3.4 to H3 boards.
<tkaiser> Yes, it would be fine if Ethernet gets ready with mainline kernel
p1u3sch1 has joined #linux-sunxi
<wens> tkaiser: why would you apply the smp hack when u-boot mainline supports psci?
<tkaiser> Not my choice. That means we can now disable the SMP hack?
<tkaiser> I'm just playing around with Orange Pi auto detection at startup since Armbian wants to provide one OS image for all Orange Pis (with both 3.4.110 and 4.x later)
<wens> yes
<tkaiser> Fine, already disabled and testing :)
guizamboni has joined #linux-sunxi
<tkaiser> BTW: Treating the One like PC (u-boot and mainline kernel) works perfectly
<tkaiser> In Armbian we reduced DRAM clockspeed for all boards to 624 and only differentiate between Plus and the others any more
<tkaiser> wens: Thx, works perfectly
