<hp197> I can now tell, PC21, PC22, PI14 and PI15 are most probably no irq pins
<hp197> sad part is that most likely we (I) have no irq pin on the headers at all
<apritzel> hp197: so you are using a kernel (PPS) driver to request the IRQ, not the sysfs GPIO interface?
<hp197> apritzel: I have checked both, because I was not completly sure whatever the pps driver did work properly on sunxi
<hp197> * should *, but there are always exemptions
<hp197> but I also checked it from sysfs side
<hp197> writing in > direction & raising > edge
<hp197> and using poll() on the value file, I checked if irq's where working in sysfs
<hp197> but they warent
<hp197> untill I connected to port PH7
<hp197> well, maybe this table was right all along: http://linux-sunxi.org/A20/PIO
khuey is now known as khuey|away
<hp197> that would explain it, as I was unsuccesfull on all the other pins
<apritzel> so only on port H, not C or I?

<nabblet> hi, this is a question about compiling the linux kernel. My from notes I recall that I use your 3.14 sunxi kernel. Since I use my server only via ssh I figured from your wiki that I can go mainline. I use gentoo and this distro has the kernel sources in its repo by default and expects the user to compile the kernel himself. Is there anything I have to take care of?
<KotCzarny> nabblet: if your device is supported in mainline, just use mainline
<nabblet> I am aware that most if not all distros do not use the vanilla linux kernel (apart from slackware maybe?)
<KotCzarny> because linux-sunxi branch is for wip i think, and the target is to get everything in mainline
<KotCzarny> mainline == vanilla linux kernel
<nabblet> ^ yes
<nabblet> So as I see it, I'll just go ahead and compile the most recent kernel available to me and then need to get u-boot to boot it.
<KotCzarny> you didnt say what device it is
<nabblet> KotCzarny: A20 (on an Olimex Olinuxino A20) - as far as I can see it is supported but there was a warning about A20 having exceptions regarding u-boot somewhere on the wiki...
<KotCzarny> where/what?
<KotCzarny> it should work with mainline uboot aswell
<nabblet> While the mainline kernel should work on any bootloader (with the major exception being the A20), you'll need a recent sunxi U-boot, or even better a Mainline_U-boot
<nabblet> KotCzarny: so u-boot is ok
<KotCzarny> um, i just use mainline uboot and mainline kernel
<plaes> nabblet: use mainline u-boot for A20
<nabblet> KotCzarny: I just remembered seeing "A20, uboot, exception" somewhere and marked it for alter lookup :)
<nabblet> *later
<KotCzarny> (on my a20 banana pi m1)
<nabblet> Is there a way to make uboot boot two different kernels for the same OS? I want to be able to fall back to the 3.14 kernel in cases I mess up the 4.x kernel
<KotCzarny> depends, but i was able to use mainline uboot with legacy kernel (3.4) on orange pi pc
premoboss has quit [Ping timeout: 248 seconds]
<nabblet> I really have to read into all that u-boot business. So far I'm only familiar with grub on x86
<plaes> this 3.14 is mainline kernel or where does it come from?
Wizzup has quit [Quit: Kernel upgrade]
<nabblet> maybe I should try to update uboot first before going for a new kernel?
<plaes> yeah
<nabblet> plaes: sorry, 3.4 - not 3.14. My bad
<plaes> now it makes more sense ;)
<nabblet> plaes: and back then I was using git clone -b sunxi https://github.com/linux-sunxi/u-boot-sunxi.git
<nabblet> thank god I assed myself to do documentation :)
<nabblet> otherwise I'd have no clue anymore :P
<nabblet> so it seems i was using sunxi uboot and sunxi 3.4 kernel
<nabblet> plaes: so first move uboot to mainline, and later the kernel?

<plaes> hrm.. what should the boot.scr contain when trying to do FEL/USBboot ?
<NiteHawk> plaes: that mostly depends on what / from where you want to boot. it may be very similar to your standard bootcmd setup, but could also be something radically simplified
<NiteHawk> e.g. a nfsboot.cmd
<NiteHawk> setenv bootargs console=ttyS0,115200 earlyprintk keep_bootcon elevator=deadline ip=dhcp nfsroot=/shared/nfs_root/bananapi root=/dev/nfs
<NiteHawk> bootz ${kernel_addr_r} - ${fdt_addr_r}
<NiteHawk> (which assumes that kernel and dtb have been transferred via FEL, too)
<plaes> yeah...
<plaes> basically this: http://linux-sunxi.org/FEL/USBBoot#Booting_the_whole_system_over_USB_.28U-Boot_.2B_kernel_.2B_initramfs.29
<NiteHawk> well, using an initramfs, the boot.cmd probably boils down to setting "bootargs" and an appropriate "bootm"/"bootz".
ikmaak has quit [Quit: No Ping reply in 180 seconds.]
<plaes> ok.. I'll leave it open for now :)
<NiteHawk> i think there simply is no "one size fits all" answer for that?
<plaes> probably yes
<NiteHawk> the bare minimum would probably reflect the parameters listed under http://linux-sunxi.org/Mainline_U-Boot#Boot - and of course there's no need for a "load" any more, if the respective blobs were transferred by FEL
<NiteHawk> but you could e.g. upload/start U-Boot via FEL and then load stuff via USB...

<keh> Hi users. Anyone knows how to dd the bpi-armbian first 4096 bytes (with some uboot informations) without the partitiontable to use it on another sd-card without touching the partitiontable? In my mind I have: dd if=/dev/mmcblk0 of=./Downloads/Bpi/bootsector_without_mbr.raw bs=512 skip=2 count=6 <-- But what Iam skipping is the MBR and not the partition table, right? Anyway, is this command working at
<keh> all? Thanks for some help.
tkaiser has quit [Ping timeout: 248 seconds]
<jelly> keh: the mbr contains the partition table.
<jelly> keh: simplest thing to do may be to store the partition table (eg. with sfdisk -d ... > somefile), overwrite the image with your data, then restore the part.table (eg. with sfdisk ... < somefile)

<keh> yes, tried that. But after upgrading armbian and sata not recognizable, I downloaded just the new image and installed it on sata via another sd. But it seems the boot information for uboot changed as well because it does not start-. So I just want to copy the first bytes until beginning of first partition plus also avoiding wiritng the mbr. And to be on the safe side, I made a backup of the beginning of

<NiteHawk> also http://linux-sunxi.org/Bootable_SD_card#SD_Card_Layout shows a standard partition layout - the partioning usually simply leaves some room (for SPL+bootloader) before the first partition, so that u-boot is "well out of harm's way"

<hp197> let me retest it on pi14/mux6

<apritzel> yeah, starts to get messy: no int on PI17, despite mux set to 6
<apritzel> but working again on PI18 ;-)
<hp197> do you have the "normal" irq 26 connected to pi14?
<hp197> in pinctrl.c
<hp197> s/normal/default/

<apritzel> this is for pin PI14
<apritzel> the first line is the dump from /proc/interrupts
<hp197> yes, ok... let me test this
<hp197> yes, 26 is HW irq, 78 is sw irq and is dynamic assigned
<apritzel> correct
<hp197> not sure if i have to tell you this :p
<apritzel> spent my daytime with VGIC emulation in e
<apritzel> KVM
<apritzel> :-P
<apritzel> and HW IRQ 26 here is not from the GIC, but the pio interrupt controller
mpmc has joined #linux-sunxi
<apritzel> which makes me wonder if there is some bug, because pio IRQ 29 is the one that does not work, and there is a GIC IRQ 29
