<wens> ssvb: got my new primo81
<wens> turns out i needed to force the device to boot from mmc by holding vol+
<wens> the internal firmware doesn't seem smart enough to check mmc for a boot0 signature
newbie-new has joined #linux-sunxi
<wens> (or it might not power it correctly)
<newbie-new> Hi! I'm looking for a replacement for my old RaspberryPi Model B - used as a NAS server - can you please help?
<wens> ssvb: the display is upside down, is this expected?
<ssvb> wens: yes, the hardware fel button is a nice feature :-)
domidumont has quit [Ping timeout: 246 seconds]
<ssvb> wens: I have a reflashed firmware on my primo81 and its firmware boots from the sd card by default when it recognizes the boot0 signature on it - http://www.msi.com/support/windpad/Primo-81.html#down-firmware&Android%204.4
<ssvb> wens: but don't rush upgrading it yet
gzamboni has joined #linux-sunxi
<wens> phoenixsuit doesn't seem to like win10, cant upgrade :|
<ssvb> wens: with this new android 4.4 firmware, my device is losing and not recovering successfully wlan connection after it wakes up from sleep
<ssvb> wens: so I need to manually, disable/enable it in the android settings panel
<wens> :(
<ssvb> basically, that's the biggest annoyance for me, and I wondered if the original "older" firmware had this bug or not
<wens> anyway, at least u-boot is working nicely, need to figure out kernel dts and stuff so i get a working keyboard
<wens> and the default display orientation isn't so nice, prefer 1024x768 :p
<ssvb> yep
<ssvb> wens: the kernel dts from http://lists.infradead.org/pipermail/linux-arm-kernel/2015-June/352198.html should work, and adding usb otg to it is simple

<ssvb> wens: anyway, it's good to know that u-boot works fine, you had me worried earlier (because I'm nominally the primo81 board maintainer in u-boot) :-)
<ssvb> wens: btw, I have just noticed that usb keyboard support happens to be not enabled in u-boot for primo81

<plaes> is this part still correct: http://linux-sunxi.org/Installing_to_NAND#U-Boot ?
<plaes> I just want to put u-boot to nand and boot from network
<NiteHawk> plaes: i think so. currently community/mainline u-boot only support MMC and USB (FEL boot)
<plaes> hmm.. ouch
<NiteHawk> afaik (SPL) support for booting from NAND is still work in progress

<plaes> this sounds weird though
<plaes> what if I only want to load u-boot from nand?

<bmeneg> hello everyone, I would like to know if someone already were able to compile the new kernel 4.x on NAND?
<bmeneg> I've used some NAND patches present to 4.2-rc7 but I'm facing some problems to start the kernel on boot.
<bmeneg> I don't really know the problem, it just stucks on "starting kernel" message after uboot reads the kernel image header.
<bmeneg> I'm trying to do that in a cubietruck.
<bmeneg> someone have any ideas?
<wigyori> if anyone's interested, i just bumped openwrt/sunxi to use 4.1, with a couple backported patches
premoboss has joined #linux-sunxi
<bmeneg> wigyori: uboot as bootloader and NAND as memory?
<wigyori> bmeneg: you should boot from mmc and put your rootfs there still, nand is experimental
<RSpliet> bmeneg: long story short, not yet (and not anymore)

<bbrezillon> and enabling earlyprintk (adding earlyprintk to your bootargs + enabling the CONFIG_DEBUG_LL option) should help understanding why it hangs

<NiteHawk> i'm looking for ideas/comments on how to best add configuration tweaks for specific sunxi boards into the mainline U-Boot ecosystem
<NiteHawk> an example would be adding U-Boot support for GPIO-driven leds. I'm thinking along the lines of http://fpaste.org/257626/40167763/
<NiteHawk> i.e. adding some marker to the *_defconfig (here: [CONFIG_]BOARD_BANANAPI), and then have sunxi-boards.h pull in specific includes
<bmeneg> bbrezillon: oh, I forgot to add earlyprintk to bootargs! thank you very much.. I will try it and try to figure out.

<bmeneg> bbrezillon: hello again, I didn't figure out my problem yet. I made a git clone from your kernel branch with sunxi things and copied the dts files, but didn't work again. I didn't understand exactly how to work with those .dts files, could you help me a little bit more?
<bmeneg> bbrezillon: for example, what I have now is a working archlinux image into the NAND. It has kernel 3.4.103 and the nand partition is as follows: nanda = uboot files, nandb = rootfs. Where should I put the .dts file?
<bmeneg> bbrezillon: what I am trying to do is to compile a custom kernel with the archlinux rootfs and burn this system into NAND.
<bmeneg> @scan
