hansg: checking for mmc2 isn't necessary after all - if egon isn't present on mmc0, then block_dev.dev are swapped in board_mmc_init, hence find_mmc_device(0) should return mmc2 if mmc0 doesn't have signature
JohnDoe_71Rus has quit [Quit: Miranda IM! Smaller, Faster, Easier. http://miranda-im.org]

because our find_mmc_device is after mmc_initialize, which calls board_mmc_init °

yes, I've moved it

now I'm rebasing stuff
<jackdaniel>
regarding mmc_initialize - static int initialized = 0 variable at start of function and checking if it's 0 is a good method to check if it has been already called?

hi! i'm porting some driver to linux-sunxi. this driver needs a gpio, and it seems that using the ctp_platform_ops crap is the way to go. However, it also seems there's a proper gpiolib sunxi driver. I guess I can use either?

<jackdaniel> regarding mmc_initialize - static int initialized = 0 variable at start of function and checking if it's 0 is a good method to check if it has been already called?
<jackdaniel>
hansg: or maybe such check should be put in board_mmc_init not mmc_initialize? For some boards it might be desireable to call mmc_initialize multiple times expecting it will call board_mmc_init
<hansg>
mmc_initialize also does:
<hansg>
INIT_LIST_HEAD (&mmc_devices);
<hansg>
Which really is something which should be done only once
kaspter has joined #linux-sunxi
<jackdaniel>
but mmc_devices is a structure, not a pointer, and assuming some operation might require resetting controller, it still might be desireable
<jackdaniel>
s/operation/operations/
<hansg>
mmc_devices is a list-head and INIT_LIST_HEAD empties the list if it already has entries, so a second call to it will remove the mmc_devices registered in the first call
kaspter has quit [Remote host closed the connection]
<hansg>
mmc_initialize really is designed to only be called once, protecting it against multiple calls should be fine
<jackdaniel>
ok

simosx, i dont see the hdmi, but its an interesting board
<gzamboni>
if it has all the i/o's of the arm its awesome, it has all the hard work of pcb designing
<simosx>
gzamboni, you are right. I mistook the μUSB port as HDMI.
<gzamboni>
me to in a quick first view
<gzamboni>
well, hdmi and phy + rj45 jack are easy to route
<gzamboni>
lets see the price
<simosx>
CubieTech really needs help to market their hardware outside of China.
<gzamboni>
if they are atractive as they use to do
<libv>
as said, they are not, everything that was community oriented about it has vanished

tho the rx and tx of the phy should respect the lenght and imp
<gzamboni>
i thought ben was still at cubietech
<libv>
nope
<gzamboni>
orphaned inc ?
<libv>
well, it seems that tom went into business with some people with severely different goals from him
<gzamboni>
thats sad.
<libv>
indeed, quite a lot of things we have is because of tom cubie
<libv>
well, before allwinner started "caring"
<gzamboni>
thats true, i remember the first cubieboard, now there is lot of aw boards in the market
<libv>
first cubieboard happened after tom had been selling mele a1000s on aliexpress for a while
<libv>
mnemoc did quite a bit of coaching on tom for the first cubieboard indiegogo
<gzamboni>
i remember that, i got one of the 1st batch from indiegogo
<simosx>
I still have my WP account on cubieboard.org. I used to have the right to edit posts (fix typos, grammar) and also moderate comments. Now, those rights are gone.
<libv>
when tom was selling the meles, he was at allwinner still, and claimed he was doing so to offer hackable hardware outside of china
<libv>
then rpi happened and then it probably was clear that there was a market for cheap allwinner based development boards
<Dodger78>
is hansg here ?
<libv>
and then we got the cubieboard, and some direct support (with docs, code, binaries) from tom cubie
<Dodger78>
i got a missing clock-frequency dmesg at boot
<Dodger78>
on a20 / cubietruck , but clockfreq should be working since a looong time
<Dodger78>
in the dts its properly set , so whats wrong ? im also lacking sysfs freq support
<libv>
as lkcl his attempt to create a community board went wrong, we pretty much only have olimex left
<libv>
and tsvetan is pretty overworked these days :)
<gzamboni>
libv whats the stat of the mali lima driver ? are you still working on it ?
<mripard>
Dodger78: I don't really know what your're talking about in your last two lines, but it's normal.
<libv>
gzamboni: not really, i am currently at a customer doing consulting, make sure i have food and a roof and such
<gzamboni>
aw could have a better look if there were a good support for setupboxes on linux
<Dodger78>
@mripard ... oh ok , cant i set the cpu frequency via sysfs ? cubietechs kernel can do that
<Dodger78>
thought cpufreqd would be working
<gzamboni>
libv i understand $work$
<mripard>
Dodger78: you can, but it's not related to that message
wickwire has quit [Ping timeout: 244 seconds]

@mripard , can you tell me how ? im on hansgs kernel , 4.1rcXXXX . did i miss a config option ?
<gzamboni>
i'm happy mainline is getting everyday more support
<mripard>
Dodger78: possibly, do you have CONFIG_CPUFREQ_DT enabled ?
<Dodger78>
@mripard , no ... i set CONFIG_ARM_BIG_LITTLE_CPUFREQ, CONFIG_ARM_DT_BL_CPUFREQ
<mripard>
then that's why :)
<Dodger78>
oh ok , where do i find that in menuconfig ?
<mripard>
and you don't need the big little stuff
<Dodger78>
i got a cubieboard 4 as well , want to reuse the kernel for it
<Dodger78>
but u-boot has no cubieboard 4 support yet :-(
<mripard>
'/' to search, then type CPUFREQ_DT
<gzamboni>
do the simplefb uboot support work for lcd displays or only for hdmi ?
wickwire has joined #linux-sunxi
<mripard>
gzamboni: I'm not sure, but I think it supports both
<Dodger78>
thx i got it, this enables the sysfs interface ?
<mripard>
i think it does
<Dodger78>
thx, the name is misleading , will try it
<mripard>
what name?
<Dodger78>
@mripard , CONFIG_CPUFREQ_DT , i expected something like CONFIG_CPUFREQ_SYSFS or so
<mripard>
CPUFREQ_DT is a driver
<mripard>
the sysfs interface is probably exported by the cpufreq framework
<mripard>
it's not misleading, it's just that the sysfs interface is not an option
<gzamboni>
i will have to get my boards back from the box
<mripard>
it's always there if you have cpufreq support
<Dodger78>
ok
