<ant_thomas> Is there a current best image or set of instructions for installing debian or ubuntu on an RK3066 based device? I'm looking for a headless/server/minimal system. 14.04 would be preferred.
<ant_thomas> It seems all the g8.net links are down
levd1 has quit [Ping timeout: 256 seconds]
<naobsd> ant_thomas: http://androtab.info/radxa_rock/ubuntu/ this is somewhat old but you may be able to get some idea...
<ant_thomas> naobsd: Thanks for the link, much appreciated. I've got an RK3066 sat doing nothing that could do with some use
naobsd has quit [Remote host closed the connection]
<karlp> ant_thomas: yeah, rk3066 is a little unloved these days, but I'd love to hear about your progress. what board are you working with?
cristian_c has joined #linux-rockchip
<cristian_c> hello
<ant_thomas> karlp: I've got a pretty standard MK808B HDMI stick - RK3066/1GB/8GB - gathering dust. If I can get a minimal debian or ubuntu system installed and running I may have a couple of uses for it
<cristian_c> ant_thomas: I've installed 14.04 on rk3066
<ant_thomas> I ran picuntu on it about 2 years ago, but all the guides are still as old
<cristian_c> two weeks ago
<ant_thomas> cristian_c: Interesting! Have you used any specific guides to get to that point?
<cristian_c> steps are common in the web, but I've used alok sinha 3.0.8+ kernel
<cristian_c> I've built the kernel, anyway
<karlp> heh, "pretty standard"
<ant_thomas> I assumed it was pretty standard, but I guess there's that many different sticks/boards out there!
<cristian_c> ant_thomas: this is the kernel I've got and built: https://github.com/aloksinha2001/picuntu-3.0.8-alok
<cristian_c> ant_thomas: configuration for device may vary, but you can custom the .config file
<cristian_c> with make menuconfig
<ant_thomas> thanks cristian_c I'll check that out tonight
<cristian_c> ant_thomas: for exampke, you was asked what device you are us8ng
<cristian_c> using
<cristian_c> ant_thomas: good work
<ant_thomas> This is the one I bought 2 1/2 years ago - http://www.dx.com/p/160535
markm has quit [Ping timeout: 264 seconds]
<cristian_c> ant_thomas: there are different versions of mk808b, they vary by wifi chip onboard
<cristian_c> official chip uses broadcom, clones use mediatek (both wifi+bt)
<karlp> they still want $50 for and old rk3066 stick? tell him he's dreamin!
<cristian_c> anyway, I've connected my rt2800usb external wifi dongle and it works very well
<ant_thomas> Ha, yeah it seems they're still selling that model for some reason. I was expecting it to be a dead link
<ant_thomas> I've got a usb ethernet adapter I'll probably end up using with it, or some other usb wifi dongle
<cristian_c> karlp: mk808 is a very popular stick, I think it's mpre supported by community than other unknown devices
<cristian_c> ant_thomas: I've tried an eth->usb adapter and it works very well for rk3066 and rk3188
<cristian_c> it uses asix driver
<ant_thomas> good news, mine is asix based too

<rperier> mhhhh... rockchip usb uart does not seem to work for me
<rperier> (I probably missed something in kernel config)
<rperier> ROCKCHIP_USB_UART=y , I added rockchip.usb_uart on kernel cmdline
<rperier> I tested with two usb port on my asus c201... and I show nothing
<amstan> rperier: echo "hi">/dev/ttyS2 does nothing?
<amstan> rperier: does the usb port still work for usb?
<amstan> rperier: also.. what voltages are you seeing on the pins? it should be 3.3V, not 0 or something in between
<cristian_c> question
<cristian_c> I've tried gpiodump. I loaded the kernel module and I've checked all the pins, in three modes but I'd like to know what to do in order to make things working. Any ideas?
<rperier> amstan: yes everything still works for usb (both ports)
<cristian_c> another question
<cristian_c> I'd like to access to mount user readable/writable nand partition (i.e. /sdcard)
<cristian_c> I think loop* block files are related to mtd partitions and I think I could mount /system or /sdcard , mtdblock8 and mtdblock9, respectively (they are ext4 the first one and vfat the second one). So, I'd like to know if maybe I've to enable some CONFIG options in the kernel configuration file or to something else. Any ideas?
<amstan> rperier: something's not right, it should at least break usb on the port where uart is supposed to be
<amstan> rperier: i can try it later today on speedy
<rperier> I am trying with chromeos kernel from archlinuxarm, which has the required patch for rockchip.usb_uart (from upstream)
<rperier> when I try to use one of the usb port , I have stranges usb errors in dmesg
<rperier> (for both ports)
<rperier> it seems to be not completly switched... :/
<amstan> can you pastebin those errors? maybe the whole boot log
<rperier> the first one port display a lot of I/O errors, the second only that. my conclusion is that the second port is for uart
<rperier> displays*
<rperier> mhhh... I will check if rockchip.usb_uart works on a development board just to be sure that this is not my usb cable...
<rperier> (it should not, but just in case)
<amstan> rperier: i don't think it's your cable, usb should not be working on that port anymore once you enable rockchip.usb_uart
<amstan> rperier: you should have that printing i think
<amstan> but i don't see it
<amstan> same with rk3288_init_usb_uart
<amstan> rperier: where did you do the rockchip.usb_uart=1?
<rperier> I only added "rockchip.usb_uart" to the cmdline , not "=1", I should ?
<amstan> i think you need the =1
<rperier> mhhhh... as I don't find the log line 279... I think you're right
<amstan> more vgem problems
<amstan> on crouton this time
<steev> amstan: sounds about right... and wtf is with that offset
<amstan> steev: yes... i died on that
<amstan> steev: it changes the Xorg binary using dd
<steev> yep

<ant_thomas> Back again.... dug out my MK808B stick and I still have a version of Picuntu installed that boots straight from microSD. What is the best way to put a clean install of debian or ubuntu on the SD card?
<amstan> rperier: any luck?
<mmind00> rperier: the switch is either done completely or not at all :-) ... can you try with rockchip.usb_uart=y?
<mmind00> rperier: it looks like the param expects always an argument
<mmind00> rperier: ah, now I'm through the whole backlog and it seems you already wanted to try that ;-)
