but those temps are kinda nuts regardless
<apc>
make sure your intake grilles are clean, as well as the heatsink exhaust
<customminer>
moisesm123: Remember that water boils at 100'c haha! You should try to keep them at like 60-80c, grab a laptop cooler!
<apc>
check the fan operation, etc
<moisesm123>
yeah XD I will get one of those laptop coolers
<customminer>
A dock cooler too though
<moisesm123>
but I was talking about my other system :p
<moisesm123>
the motherboard that I got to install the mobile i7 CPU :p
<moisesm123>
I think the best thing to do is disable Turbo Boost in the BIOS since that is what is getting the CPU so hot
<moisesm123>
CPU is 2.30Ghz. Turbo boost is 3.30Ghz. It is running right now at 2.08Ghz

<Phay>

<Phay>
it may be ultram.. but the problem goes beyond that unfortenately..
<Phay>
My whole sensory system is shot essentially. Thus many disorders and disabilities orienting from around sensory problems
moisesm123 has joined #gridcoin
<apc>
well if your nervous system isn't reading the inner ear correctly, yeah that'll mess with it
<Phay>
yeah. I mean beyond that.. it means my body is "capable" of having these symptoms if that makes sense
<moisesm123>
ok I disabled Turbo Boost in the BIOS. Temps are now at 70C again :)
<Phay>
nice m8
<Phay>
Turbo Boost is not good for mining :V yeah
<apc>
I don't know anything about turbo boost on intel, but on AMD it only boosts a portion of your cores, anyway
<moisesm123>
tomorrow I will activate it again because right now I have the air conditioner on and it goes up like this: Core 1: 95, Core 2: 100, Core 3: 98, Core 4: 92
<moisesm123>
I have to test it under natural temp
<moisesm123>
Turbo Boost should not kick if the temps are high
<apc>
that's C?
<moisesm123>
yeah
<Phay>
huh. tumor :v
<apc>
yeah that's not good
<apc>
phay: life is the leading cause of death
<moisesm123>
I mean, in my laptop it reaches 90C and it runs normally. When it reached 95C it throttles
<moisesm123>
then when it gets cool it goes up again
<moisesm123>
should be the same in the mobo
<apc>
it's designed to handle surges in temps
<Phay>
basically. basically..........
<apc>
not sustained
<moisesm123>
yeah
<Phay>
well that helped apc. thanks. good research
<moisesm123>
it is ¨designed¨ as in ¨turbo boost will not kill your PC¨ :p

I don't allow my laptop cpu to get over 80
<moisesm123>
Wow! But collatz is running in just 3 minutes XD
<apc>
because above that, it's cooking capacitors and such nearby
<moisesm123>
well, they say the CPU is the most difficult thing to die anyway
<moisesm123>
I read forum posts and the mobo dies first
<apc>
yeah that's where all the solder and parts are
<apc>
caps and resistors will just cook themselves to death
hesdeadjim has left #gridcoin [#gridcoin]
<apc>
solder joints fail due to thermal cycling
<moisesm123>
yeah
<moisesm123>
but it should be ok as long as the mobo temps are below 60C. At least that´s what my manual says
<moisesm123>
and HWMonitor right now reports the mobo temp is at 52C
<moisesm123>
both sensors
<moisesm123>
so, Mobo is at 52C, CPU is at 70C, GPU is at 74C, RAM is at 48C
<apc>
after burning-in for how long?
<apc>
I mean when cpu is at 90C
<apc>
gotta let it soak before you measure
<customminer>
90c in a laptop is pretty crazy lol, you could cook off that haha
<moisesm123>
Mobo reached 64C when the CPU was at 95C
<moisesm123>
GPU temp stayed the same
<apc>
let it sit at that for 30min to an hour
<apc>
is this the board that's in your tower chassis?
<moisesm123>

<moisesm123>
the main problem here is that it is using the stock cooler

thats hard to say, youd need to purchase pellets and test

<Chick3nman>
for the same amount of wattage
<Chick3nman>
needs to be tested as well
<Chick3nman>
for different parts and things
<ravon>
vega40k, I think we already do that. Swedes travel to Germany for cheap beer, then we export nuclear electricity. Then we import coal electricity from Germany so the companies here can charge use the most expensive source as a base for all electricity sources.

100 e/month
<ravon>
Ah
<not96>
only during the day
<not96>
for 3 month per year
<ravon>
I have no clue how to calculate that, to be honest. Maybe there are some calculators showing that "If I replaced my heating with electrical heating, what would my cost be?"

That should help you estimate.

I know that our electrical supplier calculators show that.

<apc>

<caraka>
MrControll: was it you asking somewhere about wallet on a pi?
<MrControll>
yup
<caraka>
armel pi or armhf pi?
<MrControll>
...I suddenly fear the fact that I don't know the answer.
<caraka>
rpi 1 or rpi3?
<MrControll>
pri3
<caraka>
armhf - and you can use the ppa
<MrControll>
oh, ok.
<caraka>
are you using raspbian;jessie on it?
<MrControll>
yup
<caraka>
then use the trusty ppa, but first manually install the libminiupnp8 deb that you can download from the main ubuntu repos, then the trusty ppa as per nornal
<caraka>
all the other dependencies are on jessie
<MrControll>
that might explain a few things...
<caraka>
jessie has libminiupnp10 as it's default
<caraka>
because it released slightly later than trussty
<MrControll>
right

<moisesm123>

<moisesm123>
monitor*
<moisesm123>
you know what? I´m gonna test that when I get home
<apc>
should be fine. maybe need to make sure in the bios it gets initialized first
<moisesm123>
it was enabled...
<apc>
ah then I dunno
<moisesm123>
and it appeared in the Device Manager, but with the yellow triangle
<moisesm123>

So, carak, have you considered putting together a guide for people wanting to do a Pi wallet? Us running into each other here was lucky, but there's probably people who would appreciate making that knowledge more common...

apc: Strange.. is it like cutting off at peak? Perhaps your mobo cannot supply enough power to the GPU? (many a mobo have melted in the name of GPU crunching)
<apc>
the vrm is suspicious. most gpu apps reported one vrm temp, but gpu-z shows two, and the one nothing else reports on was routinely at 95c
<apc>
core stays plenty cool, 65C tops
<apc>
I know I put thermal pads on all the vrms. this is the gpu I modded for water cooling :)
