<RTMoney_>
All just another pump, don't get too excited we will settle on a price floor again, this time likely above 800 Satoshi, every time we get one of these our floor goes up a little
<RTMoney_>
Thing is most GRC holders are very long term holders so the float (coins available for sale) is low
<RTMoney_>
So it makes it easy for someone to come in with some relatively small orders (in the grand scheme of things) and create a lot of price action in the short term:-)
<RTMoney_>
The people who hop on every hot coin eventually dump and that is when you see that long flat consolidation line, I actually tweeted a while ago about the price floor

You could reward the person who cracks the code, but figuring out how to prevent users from faking hashing would be tough. Wing man verification would increase cost & required work units significantly.

Hey Guys, can someone please explain the spike in price since the 7th?
<customminer>
You wouldn't need to force a password reset, but a big problem is that users since it's hard coded into the BOINC client, you would need users to upgrade their client. Many BOINC users use very old versions of BOINC.
<RoyalPhay>
so. I found a social security card on the ground.

We should integrate folding
<RTMoney_>
we totally could
<RTMoney_>
the NN can handle any project that publishes a measurement of work
<mrtrousers>
I think it be great. People like folding, it was my first experience with distributed computing
<mrtrousers>
Anyway, do you all think POS is better than POW for gridcoin?
<NeuralMiner>
it'd be an interesting addition.
<mrtrousers>
Foldingcoin and curecoin, have stuck to sha..
<Bouowmx>
Maybe the SHA-256 hashing exists for Bitcoin miners to easily migrate?
shadowlink125 has joined #gridcoin
<mrtrousers>
to where?
<apc>
I like POW, but I hold nothing. cryptominers of the world unite! :D
<RTMoney_>
Gridcoin was PoW the first year
<mrtrousers>
Yea, its just reading about pos, the need for checkpoints, and when there is no consensus..
<shadowlink125>
Hi guys, I have my boinc data path in another location, and I'm trying to change it with no luck. There's nothing I can see in the wallet to change it (that's really bad honestly). I've tried changing it in the config with boincdatadir=F:\\ProgramData\\BOINC but that doesn't seem to work
<RTMoney_>
we switched to PoS/PoR gained a huge energy efficiency, the wasted hashes went to real research
<mrtrousers>
I agree in that.
<mrtrousers>
Yet my concern:
<RTMoney_>
we don't have checkpoints
<mrtrousers>
uses centrally broadcast checkpoints (signed under the developer's private key). No blockchain reorganization is allowed deeper than the last known checkpoints. The tradeoff is that the developer is the central authority controlling the blockchain.
<RTMoney_>
we got rid of checkpoints about a year ago
<Bouowmx>
shadowlink125: what isn't working?
<NeuralMiner>
shadowlink125, when you open up the debug in the gridcoin wallet and do "list cpids", nothing shows up?
<mrtrousers>
THen how it goes when theres no consensus in the blockchain?
<RTMoney_>
That can cause problems syncing to the network if your computer has a time that is more than 5 minutes from the network consensus time though
<fediverse>
Dear reddy1975, your !cpid were sent via private message
<shadowlink125>
No cpids come up when i type list cpids in console
FifthGB has quit [Quit: Connection closed for inactivity]
<mrtrousers>
If there are no checkpoints which system is used?
<RTMoney_>
we have a small PoW hash where your probability of finding a block is based on research contribution and stake, so effectively the more you are owed the lower your difficulty for finding the hash
<NeuralMiner>
shadowlink125, you need a double slash at the end.

i use native boinc , i prolly could... its bitching about binary versions on adding project.. it should get the binarys and config then

<caraka>
I like it!

<Mercosity>
Guiness!
<caraka>
sometimes boinc will do that to balance the work slimeball

it wants me to waste my best android ( basiicly quad gpu ) on that

runour has it that enigma is one of the most productive for android
<apc>
seti says no work available in BAM
<slimeball>
damn i killed the notices removing the project
<apc>
odd for seti to say that so I question it
<slimeball>
yes enigma is great yada but i have had astroids/roseta/seti and seti beta sitting idle for 3 days no WU's
<slimeball>
id get errors for the apps
<slimeball>
ima just try again
<slimeball>
its 2nd time , i ignored the errors... but so i use native boinc , im sure i can edit... or find a text editor
<slimeball>
thing is , screens broken
<slimeball>
:)
<apc>
I'd check the project page but I'm in a tiny little vnc window atm :D

<apc>
so I could... but I don't wanna

i dont see a reason to check seti

<slimeball>
well im sure that depends on brands
<slimeball>
as asus , msi etc just go off a reference design and clock rates
<slimeball>
do their own
<apc>
my asus r9 380 is lame tho
<apc>
I have to flash it if I want to do pretty much anything
<slimeball>
is that 1 , HSI or some shit they were super heatsync and no fans
<apc>
it has stock overclock. any more mem oc is unstable. any more core oc does nothing
<apc>
can't undervolt
<slimeball>
ive not a need to look at hardware for years before buying this system nor much since
<apc>
it has fans
<apc>
that's why I put it in miniminer
<slimeball>
sorry i forgot to finish the sentence im baked as fuck
<apc>
cus linux overclocking is unreliable, unstable, and generally shitty
<slimeball>
let me try again
<slimeball>
is that 1 company HSI or some shit still around they were super heatsync and no fans... i didnt notice i was writing over , not inserting
<Bouowmx>

<slimeball>
heh lost a few wrods cuz of it

i shouldnt need all these fans for chipset n shit

yeah with amd's oem drivers, you can't overclock. with the open source drivers, technically you can, but it's a PITA and unstable
