<whitequark> devyn: it doesn't make perfect sense, there's certain things that an implementation may or may not do while staying compliant
<whitequark> and I suspect that what Apple does lies outside
<joelteon> fuck me
<joelteon> the roomba ran over my charger and tore it
<joelteon> so now my laptop is gonna die
<whitequark> wat? tore it?
<whitequark> a vacuum?
<whitequark> O_o

<joelteon> yeah it was already kinda on its last legs but it would charge my laptop
<joelteon> now it won't
<whitequark> um well, you most likely have a broken cable
<whitequark> use a diamond cutting disk to take the PSU apart, cut the cable ~10cm from its attachment point, resolder, done
<whitequark> I wish they used screws instead of gluing the case shut...

<joelteon> well, the charger cable is split
<joelteon> i think i can identify the source of the problem
<whitequark> if it's far from the PSU, you can probably even avoid disassembling it
<joelteon> oh is the PSU a component of the charger
<whitequark> power supply unit
<whitequark> aka charger
<joelteon> ok
<joelteon> awesome

<ELLIOTTCABLE> hi
<purr> ELLIOTTCABLE: hi!
<ELLIOTTCABLE> WATCH_DOGS is a lot of fun
<ELLIOTTCABLE> I die a lot, though. :P
<ELLIOTTCABLE> I'm capable at the combat, but I have a bad penchant for either A) jumping off of really tall buildings and going splat, or B) walking infront of subway trains, an going splat.
<ELLIOTTCABLE> or really, just, any sort of going splat.

<devyn> ELLIOTTCABLE: I was thinking about getting WATCH_DOGS but I heard it really hates AMD products
<devyn> so I'd have to get it for PS3, and meh

<cloudhead> anyone familiar with Pipes?
<cloudhead> (haskell)
<joelteon> yes i am
<cloudhead> cool, can I pick your brain?
<joelteon> sure
<cloudhead> ok, so I'm trying to understand what I can/can't do, when using sockets
<cloudhead> I essentially need to read *and* write from a socket
<joelteon> ok
<cloudhead> now there's the concept of "bi-directional" pipes
<cloudhead> I don't know if that's what I should be using
<cloudhead> or if those are two different things
<cloudhead> seems like they're not as common
<joelteon> well, pipes are bidirectional by default
<joelteon> you can await values from upstream, and you can 'respond' values to the upstream
<cloudhead> that's what I Thought
<cloudhead> so
<joelteon> whether you can interleave those on one Handle i really don't know
<joelteon> bidirectional pipes are pretty much designed for 1-to-1 messaging
<joelteon> depending on your use case you probably don't want that
<cloudhead> right
<cloudhead> I have a client/server architecture
<cloudhead> so it seems like standard pipes should work
<cloudhead> the other thing is, is Control.Proxy deprecated?
<cloudhead> I'm looking at https://gist.github.com/jhickner/5589907
<cloudhead> but control.proxy doesn't exist anymore, so I assume I can use runEffects
<cloudhead> or that that's the replacement
<cloudhead> this should just be fromSocket/toSocket now I guess
<joelteon> proxy is from old pipes i think
<cloudhead> ok cool
<joelteon> you just import Pipes now
<nicksergeant> finally putting an end to the JS test runner debate
<nicksergeant> npm install -g shart
<ELLIOTTCABLE> devyn: wat
<ELLIOTTCABLE> nicksergeant: I died.
<nicksergeant> :D

<devyn> ELLIOTTCABLE: yeah, there was a big kerfuffle about Ubisoft intentionally not optimizing for AMD because NVidia paid them off
<devyn> I think
<devyn> anyway I've heard it runs really shitty on AMD cards
