<nofxx_> ir_used = 1 ; ir_rx = port:PB04<2><default><default><default>
<syeekick> my infared instantly transmits the signal into keybindings from the keyboard

<NamanG> Hi. I am having trouble with setting proxy settings for my cubieboard. I tried exporting an environment variable http_proxy and setting it to proxy:port. Still i cannot access internet from chromium. could someone help
<joph> which os?
<NamanG> Linaro Ubuntu 2012.11
<joph> strange, it should use the env variable
<joph> try this: /usr/bin/chromium-browser --proxy-server="localhost:8118"
datagutt has joined #cubieboard
<NamanG> works now! thanks :) But why didnt it use the env variable? while pinging from the terminal, it gives correct response, thus the internet is connected but still chromium didnt work?
<joph> does wget work?
<joph> if it doesn't work something with the enviromental variable is wrong
<NamanG> i tried wget linux.about.com it says connection refused
<NamanG> and for your case: ftp.uni-erlangen.de : address family not supported by protocol
<NamanG> what am i doing wrong?
<joph> oh sorry
<joph> this was a ftp server :D
<NamanG> right! you got me confused! :P
<NamanG> i'll set the env var again.. where do i set it?
<joph> /usr/bin/env http_proxy="http://127.0.0.1:8118"
<joph> probably you should also set the variable for https
<NamanG> i did it. reopened chromium this time from the desktop without the --proxy-server. not working now
<joph> output of echo $http_proxy
<NamanG> blank line!! how?
<joph> export http_proxy=http://mein.proxy.firma:3128 <<< if you don't want to set it as root
papito00 has joined #cubieboard
<papito00> hi
<NamanG> i get correct output of echo now, but chromium still not working :(
<joph> then try wget
<papito00> i am having hard time patching kernel in cb2
<papito00> i am absolute new but need to activate spi port
<papito00> i've donloaded this patch
<nofxx_> papito00, just compile the fex and reboot, no need to touch the kernel
<nofxx_> i might be wrong tho.... heh
<papito00> i did that but the spi don't show up
<papito00> it needs kernel 4.3.79
<papito00> mine is way older than that
<joph> kernel 4.3? :D
<nofxx_> papito00, more like 3.4
<NamanG> joph: wget now working. that means system is connected. i'll loop into for chromium and get back. thanks :)
<nofxx_> cubone# uname -a
<nofxx_> Linux cubone 3.4.79-8-ARCH #1 SMP PREEMPT Tue May 6 11:17:54 MDT 2014 armv7l GNU/Linux
<nofxx_> if there was a newer it'll be on arch heh
<papito00> it says in the link i pasted
<papito00> when i try to patch it the process start but it stop and says "patch: unexpectedly ends in middle of a line"
<papito00> any help?
<papito00> this is the link of the page explaining the process
<papito00> nofxx, is that a lnux distro for cb2?
<papito00> i am using cubieez
<papito00> if that helps
<nofxx_> papito00, yup... archlinux
<nofxx_> it's for PC too... very good distro
<papito00> ok, do you know if it has spi already activated?
<nofxx_> no stupid versions, lil -header pkgs (die debian!) and non-KISS stuff
<papito00> i'll git it a try
<nofxx_> hehe
<papito00> jejeje
<nofxx_> papito00, looks like the version you said... do you know how to confirm?
DEac-_ has joined #cubieboard
DEac- has quit [Read error: Connection reset by peer]
<papito00> actually it looks the same version but what i really don't know if the link is a different fork
<papito00> definetly debian is a kind of headache
<nofxx_> papito00, yeah...to me it's the most bureaucratic distro there is
<papito00> ooh! i have another issue...i want to install it on nand
<nofxx_> papito00, don't... nand is slow, stupid and bricks
<papito00> looks like arch runs on sd
<nofxx_> every distro for cubie is sd based
<nofxx_> nand is there just because they had lot's of that chip in stock
<nofxx_> there's no other explanation
<papito00> actually i've had to flash nand 4 times now
<nofxx_> it uses a crazy, crazy partition thing
<nofxx_> and no matter what it just bricks
<papito00> oook
<papito00> is sd as fast as nand?
<nofxx_> me too, if you look to it strangely it bricks
<nofxx_> way faster
<nofxx_> use a class > 6
<papito00> i have class 10
<papito00> 32 gb
<nofxx_> way faster
<papito00> is it ok?
<nofxx_> than nand
<papito00> ok, i'll try it, thanks for your advice
<papito00> have you try spi on arc before?
<nofxx_> papito00, yeah, was the first advice I was given here hehe
<nofxx_> no, played with gpio a lil and got stuck trying to read infrared
<nofxx_> are you on cubie2?
<papito00> yes
<nofxx_> tryed infrared? hehe
<papito00> i have 2 cb2 for a project
chavaone has left #cubieboard ["Abandonando"]
<papito00> actually no
<nofxx_> wanna communicate both? SPI?
<nofxx_> why not just eth?
<papito00> no, i need to read a wireless sensor
<nofxx_> ah, ok
<papito00> rf24
<nofxx_> gonna play with it soon heh
<nofxx_> papito00, really recommend arch...gonna solve yr issue, as you said the newer kernel is there
<papito00> i hope this version has it activated
<nofxx_> papito00, just paste me one line before you go, let me see yr debian config
<papito00> yes but not sure if the spi activation is a fork of that kernel
<nofxx_> dmesg | grep sunxi-ir
<papito00> actually i am far way from my cubie
<nofxx_> papito00, anyways I'm sure itll be less painful to compile the kernel on arch
<nofxx_> as it's close to master/HEAD
<nofxx_> closer*
<nofxx_> hehe using LCD on it? just ssh to it
<papito00> if you are around frecuently i'll drop you a line later
<nofxx_> np
<papito00> right now i am using a hd tv

<papito00> just a little better
<papito00> if you like beaches of course
<nofxx_> haha, nice... yeah, I guess
<papito00> white sand beaches all over the country
<papito00> and we have nice people still
<papito00> that's why we have so many tourist around
<nofxx_> papito00, small world, but my 1st degree cousin is married to a guy from dominican rep, they live in miami
<papito00> cool, this world is getting smaller everyday
<papito00> do you know six degrees of separation?
<nofxx_> hehe, yeah
<nofxx_> isn't 5 ?
<papito00> maybe 4
<nofxx_> today should be getting close to 4 if you count virtual .. heh yeah
<papito00> if you figure out, i just have to find somebody who knows your cousin husban and then you and me are how many?
<papito00> 2 degrees?
<papito00> maybe 3
<nofxx_> hehe.. true

<NamanG> Hi. I am back with the proxy settings issue! :( Now something really crazy is happening. In one terminal session, if I add the env variables, they are applied. wget and chromium (when called from terminal) work. when i close that terminal session and open a new one. nothing is seen as output of echo $http_proxy. How do i apply system wide settings once such
<NamanG> that they are reflected always across all sessions?
<Bushmills> that's normal
<Bushmills> i think i told you a few days back that environment variables are never passed up to parent processes. only to child process if they are exported
<Bushmills> so when you close your shell, the environment is gone
<Bushmills> you just set that variable early enough, and make sure it gets exported too
<nofxx_> jez... after 3 hours I've found this in a forum
<nofxx_> There's a bug in all of the A20 script.bin files on github. The line "ir_rx=" should be "ir0_rx=".
<nofxx_> darn I hate forums
<NamanG> Bushmills: yes i got it now. i didnt know that about env variables. joph helped me there
<Bushmills> maybe it helps you to try this and see what happens:
<Bushmills> foo=bar
<Bushmills> sh
<Bushmills> echo $foo
<Bushmills> exit
<Bushmills> export foo
<Bushmills> sh
<Bushmills> echo $foo
<Bushmills> exit

<buZz> still no A80 board released eh?
<buZz> :((
<buZz> no hipboi here either :P
<buZz> BOOOOOOOOO
<rooted-arm> i think cubietruck is A80.
<buZz> its not
<buZz> cubietruck is A20
<buZz> like cubie2
<buZz> also A20
<buZz> cubie1 is A10
<buZz> they have announced 'some' A80 board on cubieboard.org
<buZz> but nothing real thusfar ..
<shineworld> just an announce...
<rooted-arm> hmmmm
<buZz> i really really really really want a A80 board ;)
<buZz> like .. a month ago
<buZz> :)
<shineworld> stack 4 A20 :)
<buZz> ;)
<buZz> not the same
<buZz> i run about ~40 heavy daemons that suck up a lot of ram
<buZz> but not a lot of cpu
<buZz> want to move them from a VPS to physical hardware
<rooted-arm> so how much it will cost for the A80 ?
<buZz> oh they also need a lot of diskspace :P
<buZz> rooted-arm: according to allwinner, ~100 usd
<buZz> https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=et0tUD_mL0E <- they said so in this video
<rooted-arm> and the cubietruck A20 ?
<buZz> that it would be 100 usd
<buZz> rooted-arm: what?
<buZz> are you asking about price on products currently on sale?
<rooted-arm> yes
<buZz> i have no clue
<buZz> CT never attracted me
<rooted-arm> but the A80 will ? :)
<buZz> ...
<buZz> octacore vs dualcore
<buZz> yeah big difference?
<buZz> also A80 has 8GB ram max
<rooted-arm> ofcourse
<buZz> whereas A20 has 2GB ram max
<buZz> A10 also 2GB ram max
<shineworld> A80 should be cool for powers ... with little-big arch...
<buZz> yeah but also outside biglittle
<buZz> allwinner has that biglittle expansion where it allows you to use all 8 cores at once
<buZz> samsung didnt roll that out yet, afaik
<buZz> (on their biglittle systems)
<shineworld> another way.... 4 sata, 4 lan......
<buZz> wait
<buZz> let me show you a sexier board
<buZz> if you like x86 that is
<wiak> ew, atom
<wiak> :p
<wiak> get a amd board instead :p
<buZz> 8 core atom ;)
<buZz> fuck amd
<buZz> well no
<buZz> fuck x86
<wiak> lol
<buZz> they have had their time
<buZz> we need to replace all this shit with arm asap
<wiak> the upcoming next gen amd cores has arm in them lol :)
<buZz> it will drop powerusage soooo much
<buZz> i dont care about x86 , its outdated, retro, boring
<shineworld> :)
<shineworld> from the net news for first a80 not before june
<buZz> and we can just emulate x86 on arm, if ppl -really- want it
<buZz> shineworld: meh, that video i just posted was allwinner saying end of may :(
<shineworld> lies
<buZz> maybe
<shineworld> I hope to be in mistake
<buZz> that girl has such a nice voice :)
<buZz> hard to believe she is capable of lying
<buZz> ;)
<shineworld> do you know the rule of market.... sell the bear skin before to have caught it
<buZz> hehe
<shineworld> I was not correct ...
<shineworld> Truly I don't know the plans of AW... A80 seem however a very good piece of tech
<shineworld> and I'm waiting to try it
<shineworld> like you
