hi guys i will build CM10.1 for Galaxy S but i have one problem how i can fix it can anyone tell me please ?
<Awys>
device/samsung/galaxysmtd/overlay/frameworks/base/core/res/res/values/config.xml:33: error: Resource at config_deviceHardwareKeys appears in overlay but not in the base package; use <add-resource> to add.
<xtacocorex>
i just comment that stuff out in the xml
<xtacocorex>
don't know if that's the right thing to do, but it gets the error to go away
<Awys>
okey thank you alot
<xtacocorex>
i think in your case though, you might have to actually do what the add-resource error wants you to do
<xtacocorex>
since the phone does have a hardware key (assuming this is true, my s3 has a button in the middle)
<Awys>
yes it has
<Awys>
won't the hw keys work then de

hmm i wonder if there is a way for android to identify itself as a particular usb mass storage device. for example, identify itself to windows a sandisk cruzer instead of the android generic mass storage device.
<turizm>
yes
<portalgod>
i'm googling it, but must not be putting in the correct search string
<portalgod>
can ya point me to any docs?
<turizm>
linux kernel docs
<turizm>
usb section maybe
<portalgod>
ahh ok. I thought maybe there'd be a userspace solution
<portalgod>
ultimately, i'd like to plug it into my work laptop, but they only allow particular devices

so i was hoping to spoof a device type

i specialize in sony phones, not so sure how samsung goes, is CM10 using fastdormancy because my data seems to drop into idle state quite a bit
<joecool>
and i have to try loading pages a second time to come back up
<portalgod>
come to think of it, i've never used nandroid backups
<portalgod>
i've never made one, nor restored
<portalgod>
maybe i should since i just stuck cm10 on my captivate

running well
<turizm>
is there any cm 10.1 for capt?
<portalgod>
don't know. i installed cm-10.0.0
<portalgod>
that's was the stable release from the 13th

i just ordered the galaxy note 2

i was going to go to s3, but i'm on the road so much, if i can eliminate the need to carry phone + laptop or tablet, i'll be happy

<Jiangyi>
I'd advise to get away from Exynos4 devices, and so would a lot of us here.

<Jiangyi>
joecool: Not talking about Xperia S, about Exynos4 devices lol
<turizm>
so no more exynos devices right?
<turizm>
which will be supported in the future?
<joecool>
turizm: imo, i'd rather have a crappy TN LCD with bad viewing angles than a amoled with a fucking pentile layout
<joecool>
looking at text on the note makes it feel like my eyes are broken
<joecool>
fuzzy
<Jiangyi>
Exynos5 will probably be fine since that's in AOSP, but unless Samsung does an 180 degree turn, Exynos4 has very little hope.

nope, hasn't launched
<peterperfect>
as ive been talking here and there...if you are not a sdcard freak and is planning to waste USD300 + on a device, i see no enough argument to not buy nexus

white means official
<cdesai>
grey = import mostly

addi they wouldnt change it if you crack your glass
<peterperfect>
cracking glass is bad use
<peterperfect>
ah ok
<addi>
ah, right >.<
<cdesai>
(ab)use
<addi>
but yeah, Nexus 4 sounds like a bad deal
<peterperfect>
bad deal?
<peterperfect>
serious, people are crazy this days
<addi>
bad deal as in too costly here
<peterperfect>
as i told, if one is ALREADY willing to waste money
<addi>
for the $350 price, me no mind the crackable glass
<peterperfect>
on a device
<cdesai>
too much with risk
<addi>
of course, it is only Nexus for me here on out
<addi>
but GNex working fine, except for its lack of RAM that causes multitasking issues
<peterperfect>
lack of ram?
<addi>
well, the 1GB is not enough, apps get killed too often
<addi>
Android's multitasking sucks
<peterperfect>
i dont want to leave in this world anymore
<addi>
peterperfect, multitasking itself doesn't suck, but the frequent app killing and the high RAM usage of app make it a nuisance for me on the GNex
<addi>
apps*
<peterperfect>
its not a gnex problem for sure
<peterperfect>
on windoze if you open a gazillion apps you will lack ram
<addi>
well, yes, not exactly the GNex's problem
<peterperfect>
on android it will claim memory back
<peterperfect>
based on your user behavior
<addi>
and that reclaiming causes problems when a game reloads or browser reloads a web page
<peterperfect>
if you open a gazillion things there will never be enough memory
<addi>
I don't open gazillion things ;)
<peterperfect>
android tends to kill things that are not being used no more
<addi>
yeah, and it's quite aggresive at that imo, which sucks
<peterperfect>
i have zero problems with android killing stuff here
<addi>
well, your multitasking needs must be different then
<peterperfect>
dude, you want to minimize a game and retake it 2 hours later?
<addi>
no, retake it 5 minutes later
<peterperfect>
so you are opening lots of things same time
<addi>
not really, 4-5, including the browser is not a lot of things

<codeworkx>
Jiangyi: we've no time to care about those shit
<codeworkx>
Jiangyi: it's not important for us
<codeworkx>
Jiangyi: only for users
<joecool>
^
<codeworkx>
Jiangyi: and devs hate users
<Jiangyi>
codeworkx: Hence why there's people like me to do it lol
<codeworkx>
Jiangyi: aren't you having write perms?
<codeworkx>
Jiangyi: DO UR FUCKING JOB, BSTRD
<Jiangyi>
I do, but I'm also lazy xD
<codeworkx>
lazy users are more bad than lazy devs
<Jiangyi>
At least I keep the some of the pages relatively up-to-date :-P
<joecool>
wish we could convince the samsung devs to go over to the sony team, sony team is great but the organization sucks and they use the worst mirrors on earth for their releases
<joecool>
Jiangyi: it's already a step ahead of our community :P
<Jiangyi>
joecool: Cody already jumped on the Sony wagon lol
<Jiangyi>
codeworkx: I go create 10.1 section, OK?
<joecool>
orly nice, imma work on getting a 2012 one now since the arc was eol'd
<sventar>
perhaps i'm biased cos i have a samsung phone, but i think its kind of important to have some working version of CM for each phone so that everyone can use it and make it more popular so that it gets more support/love from manufacturers etc
<joecool>
(for understandable reasons)
<joecool>
sventar: fuck thinking like that, buy manufacturers that support the opensource community and fuck the others
<joecool>
vote with your $$$
<codeworkx>
Jiangyi: not needed. cm10.1 will be merged into jellybean branch. 10 is dead then
<joecool>
sventar: you can't make CM decent when all the sources are closed and the manufacturer is refusing to cooperate
<sventar>
part of the reason i got an s3 was because my last phone was a htc desire and it was a little tedious to faff with unlocking, repartitioning the hboot stuff so there was enough space to install more than 4 apps, etc etc. s3 is like 1 command to root&install recovery
<Jiangyi>
codeworkx: Good thing I haven't saved changes yet lol
<sventar>
and yeah, guess i fell for the 'samsung supports devs' crap
<joecool>
sventar: well yeah HTC is garbage too, they tell their devs and userbase to wait on the release of GPL code for months, then have the audacity to ask for help in LKML
<sventar>
wish i'd got a nexus 4 now. perhaps i'll sell my s3.
<sventar>
just didn't want the unreplaceable battery and lack of sd card
<sventar>
not sure from that wiki if you can wifi tether. says you can't on the faq but nothing on the known issues page
<Jiangyi>
sventar: Think it was fixed by reverting to ICS wifi drivers.
<frankdrey>
Shit, I don't wanna do my homework ._.
<joecool>
sventar: imo, if samsung was in the position where they were unable to sell phones, they would be a lot more helpful in the opensource community
<wifi>
i must change my nick
<joecool>
sventar: it happened with sony in the US market, they fucked up big on the X10, no carrier wanted them
<joecool>
within a year they were offering pro support
<sventar>
well, for better or worse samsung seems to be insanely popular at the mo. and nexus 4 might be cheap but i got a nexus 7 from google and google's customer service sucks
<sventar>
only my 3rd nexus 7 actually worked, and i spent hours on the phone to fucking idiots trying to get it sorted
<sventar>
on xda developers i've read people saying to install cm over ics. what's that about? don't i just download the latest cm10 nightly and install from it over a factory reset phone?
<bbqbot>
derp
