I am self hosting Sandstorm. I can install apps - e.g. Paperwork and create grains but when I click on a grain title, to add content, it won't load up.
<technoboi>
PORT=6080
<technoboi>
SERVER_USER=sandstorm
<technoboi>
(I have changed the name to 'myname' below)
<technoboi>
Also, Sandstorm reports that the WILDCARD_HOST is misconfigured. However, I can see nothing wrong with it in /opt/sandstorm/sandstorm.conf.
<technoboi>
MONGO_PORT=6081

BIND_IP=0.0.0.0

ALLOW_DEV_ACCOUNTS=false

SANDCATS_BASE_DOMAIN=myname.zapto.org
<technoboi>
Can anyone help please?

<TimMc>
technoboi: That SANDCATS_BASE_DOMAIN is incorrect, for one.
<TimMc>
But... that shouldn't cause your error.
<frigginglorious>
technoboi: i've only had luck using a sandcats subdomain.
<TimMc>
technoboi: I don't think your router or server is letting port 6080 through.
<technoboi>
I had it set to sandcats.io but had the same error so I changed it
<TimMc>
Err, sorry, I don't know that after all. Didn't see the "myname" variable.
<technoboi>
I have forwarded 6080 and I am viewing it on the web - not locally
<TimMc>
What happens when you do a DNS lookup for whatever.myname.zapto.org ?
<technoboi>
OK, thanks
<technoboi>
zapto.org is a part of no-ip ddns service
<TimMc>
And does it do wildcard stuff?
<technoboi>
The site I host appears no problem. It just isn't working fully
<TimMc>
Right, but if myname.zapto.org resolved correctly and subdomain.myname.zapto.org didn't, you'd see the described problem.
<technoboi>
That is a good question
<TimMc>
so just make sure those give you the same IP
<TimMc>
(Or a very similar problem, at least -- sandstorm frame would load, but not grains.)
<technoboi>
The subdomain part is added by Sandstorm. I don't understand how that bit works. Maybe it wont work with the DDNS service
<TimMc>
Depends on your DNS provider. Go ahead and check that example.
<technoboi>
If I run blah.myname.zapto.org it doesn't work, but then I didn't expect it to
<technoboi>
Maybe it just won't work wit this service :-(

I think afraid.org provides wildcard DNS, although I think there's a minimum donation per month for that.

I'll take a look, thanks
<TimMc>
technoboi: I haven't looked into this myself yet, but I suspect you could also reasonably run your own DNS resolver for the subdomains? Don't quote me on that though.
<technoboi>
Obviously a lot to think about. Thanks for your help
