Just to ask, does anybody use Sandstorm for research collaborations? I see it has Sharelatex, which is a good start, and also gogs. I would just appreciate some feedback, on whether it is production ready to be employed in typical University departments.

Id say sandstorm itself is production ready. The quality of the apps on the other hand, vary from very good to just good enough

Hello. I try to use Rocket Chat client on macosx, with a sandstorm account on oasis.sandstorm.io.
<riccardocohen>
But when I give the webkey from sandstorm to rocket chat client, the client says : password required. Any help will be appreciated. Thanks
<riccardocohen>
The exact message: Auth needed, try username:password@host
<pdurbin>
andram: are there other research-oriented applications you'd like to see in Sandstorm?
<riccardocohen>
my question is about rocket chat client, what is a research oriented application, and what relation with rocket chat ?
<riccardocohen>
ok sorry for my mistake. the page did not show the beginning of the thread.

pdurbin: my primary interest would be to collaborate on jupyter notebooks, python modules and latex documents with other researchers. Ideally changes should be recorded through git commits. Do all apps in sandstorm have their original backends, or can I see the files, which are generated by app A with some other app B?
<andram>
afuentes: regarding app quality, how easy/difficult is it to package apps oneself? For example, I see that sharelatex in sandstorm is quite old, would it be straightforward to move to a newer version, if I was to self-host sandstorm?
<afuentes>
andram, im just a self-hosted user. I never tried to package one, but probably it varies for every app as well. Some are very difficult and others are trivial
<afuentes>
andram, find the repo of the guy packaging sharelatex and talk to him
<afuentes>
maybe hes just been busy, or maybe hes having a hard time packaging new version. I didnt really use sharelatex, so i cant help there
<pdurbin>
andram: there's a guy in our group who has been doing some interesting work with tmpnb and jupyter. Spinning up Docker containers. But it's more for ephemeral notebooks used in a workshop or whatever.
