<naobsd>
Ullarah: what's "original resolution"? are you using 1920x1080pix monitor?
<Ullarah>
Correct. 1920x1080p-60
<Ullarah>
Wanting to use 1280-720p-60 or even lower.
<Ullarah>
I've tried a mix of several different things, and I keep getting a blurry screen, like it's stretching the 720p resolution to 1080p. And if I force 720p, the X server will just show a black screen.
<Ullarah>
I've also tried another monitor that doesn't have 1080p capabilities, and it looks the same.
<Ullarah>
It's like the xserver is forcing everything to be in 1080p regardless of monitor support.
<naobsd>
if everything in software works fine,
<Ullarah>
Console looks fine if that's what you mean?
<naobsd>
if you set fb 720p and hdmi 720p,
<Ullarah>
I've tried that. I've set FB to 720p and HDMI to 720p.
<naobsd>
I guess your monitor scale it to fit with 1080p area, is it ok?
<naobsd>
please
<naobsd>
wait
<naobsd>
I know something is not working

<naobsd>
I'm asking if everything (software part) is fine
<naobsd>
what kind of configuration do you want
<Ullarah>
Oh! Yes yes, everything is working great! :)
<naobsd>
720p?
<Ullarah>
I just need a lower resolution, like 720p or 576p :)
<naobsd>
then
<naobsd>
if you changed radxa output to 720p, your monitor may do scaling to 1080p, is it ok?
<naobsd>
if what you need is larger text, you can change font size with 1080p configuration
<Ullarah>
Well like I said before, I have a monitor that only does maximum 720p, and it's very blurry and slightly broken. I will take a picture tonight of what I'm trying to say, it might make the explanation easier :)
<naobsd>
"Ullarah: Correct. 1920x1080p-60" ;) I see, you have 720p monitor
<naobsd>
it surely has 1280x720p panel, right? some TV(not monitor for PC) has no ability to render pixel 1:1
<Ullarah>
And I've tried other things such as forcing the resolution via xorg.conf
<naobsd>
please understand, I know you have problem
<naobsd>
this time I just asked about your TV
<naobsd>
because it's another important factor to show pixel correctly
<naobsd>
I can try to solve software problem, but I cannot modify your TV
<Ullarah>
Oh of course, haha.
<Ullarah>
My monitor can do 1080p, my TV can only do 720p.
<Ullarah>
I will take a picture of what I'm trying to explain when I get home from work. I'm not the best at explaining issues :)
<naobsd>
problem happens only with 720p TV, right?
<naobsd>
1080p monitor should be fine
<naobsd>
problem = bad visual (not sysfs/fbset configuration issue)
<Ullarah>
Yep, 1080p monitor works fine. If I try and change the resolution to 720p on my 1080p monitor, the text looks blurry and stretched, and the Xorg server will not start.
<naobsd>
fb resolution and TV/monitor resolution should be matched. anyway, I think now I can understand your problem correctly...
<naobsd>
I'll try to reproduce it

Ullarah: ah, can you try this args for fbset? "-a -nonstd 4 -g 1280 720 1280 720 16 -rgba 5/11,6/5,5/0,0/0"
<Ullarah>
I'll have to try tonight when I get home :)
<Ullarah>
Could you perhaps explain when the -nonstd and -rgba options do?
<Ullarah>
s/when/what
<naobsd>
rgb bits are packed into 16/32bit field
<naobsd>
-rgba specifies its width/offset
<Ullarah>
Ah okay! Well hopefully if I try this tonight it will fix the issue. I'll let you know how it goes naobsd! Thank you so much for your help and patience!
<naobsd>
and nonstd is used to specify which packed format should be used/configured in kernel
<naobsd>
nonstd value is RK 3.0 kernel specific
<Ullarah>
If it works, I might update the wiki with this information :)
<naobsd>
for 32bit color, -nonstd 1 -rgba 8/0,8/8,8/16,8/24 should be specified
<naobsd>
I'm not sure current default RR kernel color bits
<naobsd>
I thought "blurry" is just "scaled", but it might be "wrong pixel format"
<naobsd>
please take picture if something on TV/monitor is wrong :)
<naobsd>
I'm not sure colordepth config line in xorg.conf have effect or not
<Ullarah>
I will try it tonight, thanks again for all your help naobsd! Really appreciate it! :)
