<Kabouik_>
By the way, sorry if the question is stupid, but do we know already how it will work for Maemo on the Neo900? I"m not familiar with what Maemo-devuan is, is it like Maemo with open parts where Maemo was closed, and updated libraries and so on?

<Joerg-Neo900>
Kabouik_: maemo should genuinely run on Neo900, the hardware been designed to be 99.99% compatible to N900.
<Kabouik_>
But would it be safe to run it? Maemo probably has a lot of security vulnerabilities that were never fixed
<Joerg-Neo900>
the differences are larger RAM, faster CPU and next step better PVR, all of the three are supposed to be mostly backward compatible
<Kabouik_>
~PVR
<Kabouik_>
Oh I forgot how the bot works :P
<Joerg-Neo900>
any security vulnerabilities in maemo5 are dealt with in CSSU
louisdk has joined #neo900
<Kabouik_>
Oh, so CSSU keeps Maemo "up to date". But what about libraries being outdated?
<Joerg-Neo900>
It's not my call to evaluate the security of maemo as updated by security fixes by CSSU, but afaik there are no known major vulnerabilities
<Joerg-Neo900>
maemo-devuan is about porting maemo to non-compatible devices. The idea about Neo900 however was to be _compatible_ to N900/maemo5
<Joerg-Neo900>
of course Neo900 also would benefit from maemo-devuan
<Kabouik_>
Oh, right, didn't know that maemo-devuan was for non-compatible devices. I thought it was an open OS based on Maemo with reverse engineering or I don't know.
<Joerg-Neo900>
well, both applies
<Joerg-Neo900>
just the reverse engineering is obviously mostly needed for non-N900-compatible devices, since on N900 the closed blobs just work
<Joerg-Neo900>
of course it's a benefit for N900 and Neo900 as well to have them re-FOSSed
<Joerg-Neo900>
but not as mandatory as for any other hw platform
<Kabouik_>
Right
<Kabouik_>
And all along Maemo, we should be able to install any full Linux distribution compatible with OMAP?
<Joerg-Neo900>
sure
<Kabouik_>
Well., I mean TI DM3730, but I'm not sure what kind of cpu that is, just guessing omap
<Joerg-Neo900>
yes
<Joerg-Neo900>
OMAP3

I would suggest that more regular news updates going forward will silence most of the argo on TMO.
<sixwheeledbeast^>
The important thing is to not let any negative comments effect the project in a negative way.
<sixwheeledbeast^>
After all I would say that the people posting in the thread want to see the project succeed. That's why they are passionate about posting there views on the topic.
<sn0wmonster>
usually, yea
<sn0wmonster>
i agree that even the harshest critics tend to be harsh because they want to believe
<sn0wmonster>
just like we all want to believe in god, but deep down, we know that even if he's real, he's closed source

can't share that

sixwheeledbeast^: oooooooh interesting points... yes... so collate queries from there to answer in newsupdates as appropritae????
<sixwheeledbeast^>
Forum threads and RSS news feeds should be kept separate. News should contain any progress with the project. If people wish to openly talk about the news they can in the forum.
<sixwheeledbeast^>
Also seen as the Neo900 project has it's own sub forum on TMO. I would suggest that an individual thread is made for each news post.
<sixwheeledbeast^>
This way the now tumbleweed thread that's pages and pages will die and less off topic or ranting will occur. Question will be directly in context with the news post.
<sixwheeledbeast^>
All this IMO ofc
<sixwheeledbeast^>
Obviously there is no point doing that now for snow's post but in the future quick new thread/stub with a link to the neo900 website blog maybe a good idea
<sixwheeledbeast^>
That way it's not third hand news that the website is updated. It's straight from source.

wpwrak: Esa asks for a BOM as spreadsheet, with part number and all, could you run that job again and produce some output for me that I could convert to a spreadsheet?
<Joerg-Neo900>

maybe adding datasheets to the parts in .ods?
<Joerg-Neo900>
I always thought it would be beneficial to put the "datasheet" field in kicad components to purpose
