x29a: it seems that eagle sucks badly when it comes to doing layouts. you apparently only have the choice between a slow autorouter and manual routing.

x29a: kicad, on the other hand, has a very nice interactive push router. alas, it's still not fully integrated with the rest, so the workflow may be bumpy. i hope to get to doing an experimental layout for my other project (anelok) soon, then use that push router for it for the first time. then i'll know better how good or bad things are at the moment.

(until now i just did layouts with kicad manually, which isn't so bad but it certainly comes with a significant amount of redundant work that the push router could avoid)

another advantage of kicad would be that it's completely Free and open source, while eagle is closed source and you have to buy a license if you want to actually work on the design. (for just looking around, printing, etc., the gratis version is sufficient, though)
