<Airwave> Follow-up to yesterday's q-tip trouble: I bought some tools today, and I managed to get the cotton out using a sewing needle. No springs appear to be broken either; the stylus stays in place when I put it in the slot.
<Airwave> Thanks for giving me helpful tips and cheering me up guys.
<Airwave> Oh sorry, that was in #maemo.

<x29a> Airwave: youre welcome ;)
<Arch-TK> Airwave: springs? in what?
<bencoh> n900 stylus slot
<Arch-TK> springs? there's no springs there, surely...
* Arch-TK finds his n900
<Arch-TK> yeah... isn't it just a friction fit / plastic notch
<bencoh> I thought as well, but ...

<Airwave> Arch-TK: You're probably right.

<DocScrutinizer51> no, there are definitely two steel latch springs, one at start of bay for friction and one at end to click-lock stylus in end position
<DocScrutinizer51> the latter is what the rim around tip of stylus is for
<DocScrutinizer51> the friction springt at start of bay has a plastic nose

<Arch-TK> DocScrutinizer51: how many hours did you spend staring at blueprints of the case :P
<Arch-TK> s/blueprints/diagrams/
<DocScrutinizer51> I stared at the real thing for hours and days. No blueprints
<Arch-TK> ah
<Arch-TK> with a micrometer and a pair of calipers I presume.
<DocScrutinizer51> sure :)
<DocScrutinizer51> also see werner's excellent 3D scans
<Arch-TK> I can definitely call your devotion to this project inspiring.
<DocScrutinizer51> I dunno if you can see the springs there
<Arch-TK> I could just take apart my n900
<DocScrutinizer51> I know those springs by heart since I mused for hours how to attach a stylus-present sensor to them
<Arch-TK> One of the first things I did was take it apart to assess the practicality of disassembling the device to replace the pcb
<Arch-TK> Then I spent two weeks having fun with running the device, exploring what I could get it to do and trying it out as a phone.
<DocScrutinizer51> first thing that forced me to take apart the device was to decide which battery gas gauge and charger we got (bq27200 and bq24150)
<Arch-TK> I see.
<Arch-TK> I guess the neo900 will use the same BL-5J batteries right?
<DocScrutinizer51> the famous highres scans resulted from that ;)
<DocScrutinizer51> yes
<Arch-TK> (It's amazing how you can buy these things a dime a dozen.)
<Arch-TK> Are these lithium batteries, do you know?
<DocScrutinizer51> LiIon
* Arch-TK still has to play around with booting a custom distro on the n900
