<useretail> hey guys, i know it's wrong place to ask, but maybe someone knows: how to implement a function that is based on parameters: 0, 1, 2, 4, 8, 16, 32, 64 ... etc
<bencoh> ?
<useretail> so if parameter is 3 function know it's 1 and 2
<bencoh> is that a bitmask ?
<useretail> sort of
<useretail> i need implementation in cpp
<bencoh> then just use bitwise operators (?)
<useretail> thanks, your reply was helpful :)
<bencoh> you'll be limited by your datatype length
<useretail> yes, thats logical. but i need it just for test

<wpwrak> i just ran the last scan that i think matters. this means that the mill will return to milling duty soon. please have a look at http://neo900.org/stuff/werner/scans/
<wpwrak> if there's anything missing you'd think would be useful to scan as well, then please let me know

<SylvieLorxu> Does not having preordened the Neo900 mean there's no chance of getting it or will that still be possible? I'm quite interested but having pre-ordered because money :x
norly has joined #neo900
<SylvieLorxu> Oh, I think the FAQ kinda answers that as "it's possible"
<SylvieLorxu> I'm tired :x
<SylvieLorxu> ...And so do the graphs on the homepage
<SylvieLorxu> s/do the graphs/does the graph/

<DocScrutinizer05> well, not really
<DocScrutinizer05> we will build a few percent more devices than been preordered
<DocScrutinizer05> and of course we will *try* to build a second batch after first batch shipped to customers. We will need at least(!!!) same amount of preorders for second batch as we see for first batch now
<DocScrutinizer05> possibly second batch will not be feasible unless we see 10 times the preorder count of first batch. Depends on availability of parts

<SylvieLorxu> Hmm
<SylvieLorxu> I wish I could afford this thing more easily, it's basically high-end smartphone price :P
<SylvieLorxu> About as expensive as my PC and laptop together, heh ^^"
<SylvieLorxu> But yeah, that makes sense, I suppose
<DocScrutinizer05> yeah, as cheap as a standard high end smartphone while it's a special built-to-order product for a extremely small niche market
<DocScrutinizer05> even TI charged twice the price for their zoom-II, same specs basically, just 50 or 100 times the production volume
<SylvieLorxu> Oh, I get why it isn't really possible to make it real cheap, I'm not blaming
<SylvieLorxu> It's just that I paid, like, 100 Euros for the phone I have now, so it feels like an enormous difference (6 to 8.5 times that price)
<SylvieLorxu> :P
<SylvieLorxu> I hate this phone but yeah...
<SylvieLorxu> I'm still quite glad this project is being done
<ds2> it is not fair to compare this project to most mass marketed crippled phones
<DocScrutinizer05> it's completely fair, just nonsense
<DocScrutinizer05> ;-D
<SylvieLorxu> Again, to stress this, I'm not calling the pricing insane or unfair or whatever
<SylvieLorxu> It's just a lot of money for a student to throw at something :P
<SylvieLorxu> Even though it'd probably serve me for a good while and will therefore likely be a better deal than those other crappy phones
<SylvieLorxu> Even then, it's the /only one/ in its class
<SylvieLorxu> No other device I know offers what this one does
<DocScrutinizer05> we're well aware of that, and it almost made us rethink and not start the whole thing. But a poll on talk.maemo.org resulted in a cerain low percentage of people being willing and able to pay what it costs to build that exotic thing
<SylvieLorxu> I understand
<SylvieLorxu> It's still quite a cool and promising project
<SylvieLorxu> And I'd still want one myself, lol
<DocScrutinizer05> modem module of our phone costs more than your phone, on sourcing, without us making a cent on it
<SylvieLorxu> Ouch...
<SylvieLorxu> Just to be sure, it's clear I'm not attacking the pricing or calling you greedy or so, right?
<DocScrutinizer05> right
<SylvieLorxu> Good ^^
<SylvieLorxu> Don't want to discourage all the work being put in something that would actually /improve/ things instead of make them worse like all the other "cool" *cough* tech things
<DocScrutinizer05> just telling you we all would *love* to see a chance to cut the price by half
<ds2> problem with most mass market crap is they are gear toward being an agent for someone else
<DocScrutinizer05> alas there isn't
<SylvieLorxu> ds2: I completely forgot about that, somehow. Yeah, God, all the bloatware apps pre-installed *cringe*
<ds2> purchased phones aren't really YOUR phone.
<ds2> SylvieLorxu: that and the phone is intentionally crippled or made to use certain services to suit their needs.
<ds2> features get locked out
che1 has joined #neo900
<SylvieLorxu> Yeah, true
<SylvieLorxu> Oh God, feature lock-out, yup...
<ds2> your data is forced into their cloud
<SylvieLorxu> Someone got me a cheap tablet and they removed the Android custom keyboard feature so I couldn't use dvorak
<SylvieLorxu> Like, what the hell
<SylvieLorxu> Why do people even remove perfectly fine stuff like that
<ds2> with a powerful local processor, you should be able to do the processing locally. there was more local processing done on the old Sharp Z's then in some android apps
<SylvieLorxu> Also, it reinstalled Skype and Flash on each reboot, trashed it pretty quickly
<SylvieLorxu> There is no cloud, only other people's computers ;)
<ds2> I just wish for a different featureset then what is offered for the N900 ;) (nice N800 case/screen with a OMAP3 or OMAP4 fitted to it + a second USB port)
<SylvieLorxu> I mostly care about having a phone that isn't just a remote tracking device that you can't disable

<Oksana> Good morning!

<Oksana> About scans: is it possible to use them to make a video similar to "Neo900 PCB work in progress", but a bit more like "real-life" device? Something like: let's take these parts and fit them into this case, and here is what it would look like? Videos should be more visible on the website, imho, whether they are stored on Youtube or somewhere else.

<wpwrak> Oksana: someone who's good with blender could do that, yes :)
<wpwrak> the best i ever managed of that sort was a kinda of "collage". not a video, but parts combined. lemme find it ...
<wpwrak> ah, i cleverly hid them such that i can't find em myself :)
Pali has quit [Remote host closed the connection]
<wpwrak> i think i used povray for this. scans were made with the same scanner, also in stl: http://downloads.qi-hardware.com/people/werner/ben-scans/
<wpwrak> there, i scanned each part from both sides. so i could overlap and subtract them to get a solid, not just a surface
<wpwrak> i didn't take the n900 scanning quite to that level, though
<wpwrak> the n900 scans are more focused on the things our spacer frame will be in contact with, and also possible placement and access to the hackerbus
