<kerio>
why the hell do people want to fucking pentest with a n900
<kerio>
it's got a shitty wifi antenna and barely any ram
jonwil has joined #neo900
<DocScrutinizer05>
a) 99% of self-appointed pentesters are actually "gangsters" trying to exploit vulnerabilities of WLANs wherever they happen to find them
<Humpelstilzchen>
lol
<DocScrutinizer05>
b) there are pretty few decent true pentest tools (hw)
<DocScrutinizer05>
re RAM: a ~6 years ago, I still had a desktop PC as main PC which had half the RAM of Neo900, and I switched to a laptop which had 192MB which been the max it could do, and had less bogomips than N900
<DocScrutinizer05>
ok it prolly had better (since faster) swap
<DocScrutinizer05>
which enabled it to start up openoffice under KDE in just less than 120s
<DocScrutinizer05>
only yast package manager been an unbearable PITA, taking like 24h to build the complete package dependency tree database in "RAM"

Will the Neo 900 use the same keyboard as the n900?
louisdk has joined #neo900
<kerio>
cacaphony: the neo900 is a replacement board for your current n900
<kerio>
so yes
<kerio>
it will use the same keyboard as YOUR n900
<cacaphony>
Meh.
<cacaphony>
kthx
<DocScrutinizer05>
???
<DocScrutinizer05>
you could attach a fullsize USB kbd (or BT) as well ;-)
<cacaphony>
iunno the n900 keyboard is quite frustrating to type on for me
<cacaphony>
I could, but then it's no longer handheld
<kerio>
i find it quite nice, idk
<kerio>
i don't have a point of reference for a good mobile keyboard, maybe

I found the N810 kbd somewhat better but with unbearable layout. Most who can compare found N900 kbd superior to N810. And for sure we all hardly can find any other build of similar size kbd on par with N900
<cacaphony>
If only I could install Maemo or Debian on the E7
<cacaphony>
It'd be the perfect device
<DocScrutinizer05>
and our honored GeneralAntilles typed live transcripts of meetings faster on N900 kbd than I could have done on a decent fullsize kbd
<DocScrutinizer05>
(E7) well, maybe "perfect" in a very particular metrics
<bencoh>
cacaphony: what's frustrating ? the layout ?
<cacaphony>
The size and the effort with which the buttons are pressed
<cacaphony>
They're clunky
<bencoh>
maybe you just need a new domesheet

<bencoh>
actually I cant find proper datasheet or info
<DocScrutinizer05>
well, do you see any specs for that chip at all? ;-)
<DocScrutinizer05>
that's due to this part being a risk part par excellance

I don't know of *any* other OMAP3 device with 1GB of RAM
<DocScrutinizer05>
Samsung never ever listed that part on their own website
<DocScrutinizer05>
neither Micron nor Hynix seem to have built something similar (despite there's another even more obscure chip shown in N9 schematics PCB photo)
<DocScrutinizer05>
(might be a Hynix chip maybe, but that's *complete* unobtainium, not even any google hits on it)
<DocScrutinizer05>
seen some 2 or 3 points down on usercount (got "hide join/part/nick")

About NoPhone: 1). Did their campaign close, already? 2). Isn't that too high amount of money to pay for mass-produced brick in shape of phone? Especially, 7$ for reflective sticker?
<DocScrutinizer05>
hey, is that freakin "jolla" battery still unobtainium? Might be a cash cow
