<slapin>
do anybody knows if somebody attached backup battery to any of Allwinner-based devices which did not have it originally?

i.e. pine64 don't have any documented way to attach batteries, I wonder if anyone did some hacks around it

<slapin>
MoeIcenowy: is there any details and links to batteries? I found old discusstion, they tell they prefer lipo and 3 wires (with termistor) but I can't find any such batteries available on ebay for decent mAh.
<slapin>
also I looked-up some raspberrypi articles, they seem to use powerbanks as UPSes, but it looks these are very rare ones...

Hello, whats the easiest way to get an A20 device to boot off a SATA disk with u-boot located directly on the NAND? SD-card slot should be empty.
<pcduino>
quinward: I am just abouto try that
<pcduino>
having problems with my USB sata converter though :(
<quinward>
afaik A20 has SATA support, so in my case there's no usb bridge required
<pcduino>
ah no I am trying to flash uboot to the ssd from my pc
jernej has joined #linux-sunxi
<wens>
quinward: you mean all of u-boot on the nand?
ndtuldstodsxss has quit [Remote host closed the connection]
<quinward>
hmm, does A20 support booting directly from SATA? Last time I checked this wasn't possible
<wens>
then it should be fairly easy to load the kernel off a SATA disk
<wens>
quinward: no
<pcduino>
was about to try but guess I should not

pcduino: brom only checks mmc0, mmc2, nand, spi
<quinward>
wens: I'm trying to put the OS onto the SSD. I think u-boot has to reside on the sd-card or the nand-chip.
<wens>
quinward: correct
<pcduino>
ah okay will have to get nand working from mainline kernel first then
<quinward>
so I'm wondering what's the current support status for the nand
<wens>
iirc only slc is supported
<pcduino>
quinward: I have u-boot and my boot partition on miscrosd and the rootfs on ssd
<quinward>
pcduino: yeah, I'm trying to avoid using a sd-card
<pcduino>
quinward: nand works in sunxi kernel but not in mainline
<pcduino>
something wrong somewhere in device tree
zumbi has joined #linux-sunxi
<quinward>
you using u-boot-sunxi or mainline u-boot?
<wens>
pcduino: with the old sunxi-3.4 kernel, it's using allwinner's FTL to emulate a block device
<plaes>
the issue is that you need "hacked" kernel to write u-boot from linux
<wens>
with mainline there's only mtd and ubifs
<pcduino>
oh I see
KotCzarny has joined #linux-sunxi
<plaes>
I don't know if it's possible to actually write to nand from u-boot itself
<KotCzarny>
wens: /proc/iomem isnt all zeros on 4.9.0-rc3
<wens>
i don't think there's write support
<wens>
KotCzarny: cool, i can't figure out what broke it
<KotCzarny>
now i have to figure out how to configure bcm53125
<KotCzarny>
by default i got wan,lan[1,2,3,4]
<KotCzarny>
though no packets arrive
<wens>
please keep notes :)
<KotCzarny>
hehe
<wens>
my bpi-r1 is still lying around somewhere unused
<KotCzarny>
there is still eth0, and packets show up on it
<KotCzarny>
but swconfig doesnt find any switches anymore

wens: if the brom also checks SPI, would it technically work, if I added a SPI flash chip like Winbond W25Q128 and put u-boot on it?
<KotCzarny>
anyone with vlan/dsa experience?
<Wizzup>
quinward: if there is nothing bootable on the nand and sd, then why not?
<wens>
quinward: yes it would
<quinward>
interesting
<wens>
i think ssvb made it work?
<KotCzarny>
also, 'vdd-cpu: ramp_delay not set' what could be the cause?
<Wizzup>
on a10/a20 at least, not sure about others, wiki knows
<Wizzup>
ssvb: if you want I can try the same soldering job on a lime a10 later on
<Wizzup>
so we can state in the wiki that A10 is also verified to work

Wizzup: I have already tested A10, but using SPI2 instead of SPI0 (naturally, only flash programming via sunxi-fel and loading the main U-Boot part from the SPL, but not really booting from it)
<Wizzup>
right, I can see if I can test that
