<noely> Good morning
<noely> Can anyone assist me with installing sunxi-tools?
<noely> I keep getting this error on my orangepi -
<noely> Unable to locate package sunxi-tools
<mdsrv_> distro?
<noely> raspian
<noely> I am still new to linux, this is a bit of a curve for me
<mdsrv_> jessie?
<noely> where do I check?
<mdsrv_> uname -a
<noely> Linux orangepi 3.4.39 #41 SMP PREEMPT Sun Jun 21 13:09:26 HKT 2015 armv7l GNU/Linux
<mdsrv_> old stuff
<noely> thats what I downloaded from the orangepi website
<mdsrv_> anyway, cannot say what version it is
<noely> do I need to update this?
<noely> and if so how?
<mdsrv_> gimme the link
<noely> just a minute...
<noely> Their website is very slow
<mdsrv_> anyway, use this instead http://www.armbian.com/
<noely> what is this?
<mdsrv_> armbian
<mdsrv_> it is less buggy than legacy images
<noely> do I download jessie desktop?
<mdsrv_> as u wish, as i know every image is based on jessie
<mdsrv_> sorry, xenial is also in use
<mdsrv_> anyway, yep
<mdsrv_> download jessie desktop
<noely> ok I am doing this
<mdsrv_> and u should have sunxi-tools in repo
<noely> I will try this image then try installing sunxi again
<noely> see if I have less issues
<mdsrv_> and if u r too lazy to do it, u can try to manually download sunxi-tools package
<noely> thank you
<mdsrv_> from website
<mdsrv_> and install it via dpkg -i
<noely> how do I do this?
<mdsrv_> u download .deb package
<noely> again new to linux
<mdsrv_> and then dpkg -i nameofpackage.deb
<mdsrv_> use google
<noely> righto
<mdsrv_> armhf probably is what u have
<mdsrv_> u can check it typing "file /bin/rm"
<mdsrv_> bb.

<ssvb> NiteHawk: it's just that the first SID word differs on H3 when read early in U-Boot or via FEL when compared to reading it via devmem2 much later in Linux
<ssvb> I could also reproduce this but haven't investigated it yet
<ssvb> basically, we need to figure out when exactly it gets changed
vagrantc has joined #linux-sunxi
<ssvb> and then look at what could have affected it
<ssvb> are you sure that the MAC collision happens after applying https://patchwork.ozlabs.org/patch/654270/ ?
<NiteHawk> ssvb: didn't we observe something similar when initially trying to "read" the SID memory directly via sunxi-fel? i'm suspecting we might have another case where byte-oriented access of those values fails - which is why you introduced "readl" in the end
<ssvb> NiteHawk: it's only the first word getting changed, the others remain the same
<NiteHawk> ah, right. good point
<ssvb> this is a little bit inconsistent
<ssvb> I still would try to track the exact time when this change happens
<ssvb> Maybe it's the arisc firmware doing something? But we don't know until we investigate this
<plaes> qschulz: I managed to find some time today to play with your iio patches
<plaes> currently only X2 and Y2 give readings

<montjoie> I believe to remember someone has already said yes
<qschulz> plaes: could you elaborate more? How did you conclude it was X2 and Y2 that were read?
<plaes> I ran this shell script: while [ 1 ] ; do cat /sys/devices/platform/soc@01c00000/1c25000.rtp/sun5i-a13-gpadc-iio.0/iio:device0/in_voltage* ; done
<plaes> and only second and fourth columns (1 and 3) gave me readings
<plaes> and the pins were X2 and Y2 on CHIP 0x21
<qschulz> plaes: what was the return of first and third channels (columns)?
<plaes> firstly, it seemed to be always equal (chan0 == chan2)
<plaes> and reading was either something like 1856 or 4565 (don't remember exact numbers)
<qschulz> and what is the output of second and forth channel?
<plaes> it seemed to be proper voltage (in millivolts)
<plaes> I had these sensors: https://www.pololu.com/product/136
<qschulz> plaes: can you test by reading multiple times the same channel? I think I had some problems when switching channels.
<qschulz> plaes: so you have four sensors plugged on the ADC? One per channel ?
<plaes> nope, I only tried with one sensor
<qschulz> plaes: I had a project with IR sensors to get the distance from an object... Do not believe everything that's returned by the sensor, sometimes it is returning unbelievably erroneous values
<plaes> there I saw also some crosstalk between X2 and Y2
<plaes> and later I tried with two sensors - X2 and Y2
<plaes> then it looked better
<plaes> but I never got any output from X1 and Y1 pins

<qschulz> plaes: did you test without your while loop iterating over each channel? I'm interesting in constantly reading the same channel
<qschulz> plaes: you put the sensor on X1 and do:
<qschulz> while [ 1 ] ; do cat /sys/devices/platform/soc@01c00000/1c25000.rtp/sun5i-a13-gpadc-iio.0/iio:device0/in_voltage0_raw ; done
<plaes> ok, I'll try it out asap
<plaes> either tomorrow or Tuesday
<qschulz> plaes: I'll try as well and let you know if I can reproduce your bug

<willmore> MoeIcenowy, did you resolve your Opi1 regulator question?
<willmore> It's a 'dumb' regulator. There's a GPIO that tells it to go high output or low output. Basically, it alters the resistor settings that set the output voltage.
