<teo__> sorry for silly question but I've git cloned linux-sunxi... how to change to 3.4 ?
<teo__> git is a nightmare for me :(
<teo__> teov@teov:~/android/build/linux-sunxi/linux-sunxi$ git branch -v * sunxi-3.0 274a66a Merge branch 'reference-3.0' into sunxi-3.0
<rellla> "git checkout sunxi-3.4"
<teo__> I obtain and empty directory...
<oliv3r> git branch is create (or list) a branch
<oliv3r> checkout is switch a branch (unless you do -b, then it creates and switches for you)
<teo__> wow, works... I've tried many times before without results... perhaps I've mistake something, however thanks for support
<oliv3r> np :)
<oliv3r> drachensun: the DRAM struct is extremly different on the sun6i; but we have that info, i pasted it weeks/months ago, when we started talking about a31 and a10-meminfo. I'm sure it's on the archive :); Since sun6i has different pinout, it only makes sense that the GPIO's don't match :p
<oliv3r> drachensun: but you initially complained about SPL wasn't able to laod because of different header/magic value. I don't think they've changed that at all however.
<oliv3r> unless of course you mean that the DRAM values (are they in the header?) are in the header, then that is the only bit that's different I suppose ;)
<oliv3r> i found some of the stuff i talked about: http://irclog.whitequark.org/linux-sunxi/2013-03-13#3239252
<oliv3r> i think i used boot0's code to get that info

<hno> mnemoc, no it's boot1. lichee-u-boot only knows some fastboot variant but apparently not compatible with normal android fastboot.
<mnemoc> doh
<mnemoc> maybe they set the partition in one of the .ini files in nanda
<mnemoc> (assuming it's not hardcoded)
<mnemoc> (or injected by livesuit)
<hno> Seems it's defined somehow by the MBR table. But it's inconclusive.
<mnemoc> they have different partition types, which we use as boolean. but they might have meaning for boot0/boot1
<hno> ok, seems fastboot actually do work.

<hno> mnemoc, usb0 OTG is disabled in sun4i_defconfig.
<ssvb> rellla: also looks like this bug has been now reported to you - https://github.com/rellla/xbmca10/issues/14 :)
<rellla> ssvb: thanks. saw it already. segfault after second play, right?
<ssvb> yes
<rellla> the more i read the code, i fell the error results of mixing up the APIs
<rellla> for example, the fbm_init_ex method is different in android and armhf source.
<ssvb> is it easy to add debugging messages to this code and rebuild xbmc?
<ssvb> yes, they don't seem to respect ABI
<rellla> ?
<rellla> maybe. try it
Tartarus has quit [Excess Flood]
<ssvb> fprintf does not work, or the code was not rebuilt properly
<rellla> and fbm_init isn't included in armhf-fbm.c at all.
Tartarus has joined #linux-sunxi
<rellla> so linux-xbmca10 is built with this armhf headers. if we use a android binary with it, it smells like "ouch"
<ssvb> yes, I'm well aware of the obvious ABI changes, that's why it is important to use "compatible" android blobs and not all android firmwares are compatible
<rellla> it would be worth a try, to build the android version in depends/cedarv and test it with the android blob
cajg has joined #linux-sunxi
<ssvb> no, the android version in github repo is totally incompatible
<rellla> seems, that you tried it already!
<ssvb> kinda
<rellla> what you tried exactly?
<ssvb> I checked the number of arguments for the functions and the sizes of interface structs
<ssvb> the recent android blobs match the ABI of linux armhf blob
<rellla> "mostly"
<ssvb> yes, some minor incompatibility apparently exists
<rellla> and hopefully this causes the issues
<ssvb> there should not be any major ABI issues, like calling the wrong functions or messing the function arguments

<CountryGeek> oliv3r: yt?
<CountryGeek> Tryin' to figure out where my A10 pwm patch should go in the tree...
tux4 has joined #linux-sunxi
<CountryGeek> anyone got a second to help me with placement?
<hno> CountryGeek, sure. What is it and placement into what?
<CountryGeek> hno: Awesome - thanks
<CountryGeek> I wrote this pwm driver for A10
<CountryGeek> new files, new code
<CountryGeek> can (should?) be a module
<CountryGeek> where should I put it?
<CountryGeek> re: 3.4
<CountryGeek> The driver is only 2 channels (works with the hardware pwm, not emulated pwm)
<hno> should be buildable as both module and statically linked, just as mostly any driver.
<hno> there does not seem to be a "pwm" area in the kernel. PWM drivers are sperad out in a couple of places depending on intended usage
<CountryGeek> Where do I change the config options?
<hno> a) LCD backlight drivers
<hno> b) misc device drivers.
<CountryGeek> Alas, the lcd driver exports a symbol (pwm_enable) which is not a generic pwm_enable, just limited to the lcd
<CountryGeek> which precludes me from implementing the 3.4 pwm interface :-!
<CountryGeek> K - I didn't see a bunch of modules in the linux-sunxi tree - am I looking in the wrong place?
<CountryGeek> so I want to get this out to the ml - just tryin' to figure out logistics....
<CountryGeek> hno: I'm thinkin' in misc device drivers
<hno> The lcd driver export is bogous. Kill it.
* CountryGeek jumps for joy
<techn_> hno: CountryGeek: it would be neat to see disp implementing pwm driver interface ;)
<hno> Or even better using the pwm driver..
<CountryGeek> hno: IDK where to make my changes for config options - can you point me at some doc?
<techn_> hno: that I ment
<hno> CountryGeek, See drivers/misc/Kconfig and Documentation/kbuild/kconfig.txt
<CountryGeek> techn_: hno Meh - those pins for the pwm hdw may not be useful for the lcd. Certainly for leds , buzzers, vibrators and backlights
<CountryGeek> hno: On it - thanks
<hno> CountryGeek, LCD driver needs to control LCD backlight.
drachensun_ has joined #linux-sunxi
<CountryGeek> Ah - I thought they might be different. my pwm driver might be good for variable brightness torch or something
<CountryGeek> techn_: That's the export I'm gonna get rid of
<CountryGeek> leave the function, remove the export
<hno> CountryGeek, those functions accesses the PWM hardware registers.
<techn_> To improve that further.. make disp/lcd use your pwm driver? :)
<hno> yes.
<hno> removing conflict between two drivers using the same hardware.
<hno> but first fit the pwm driver in the tree.
<CountryGeek> techn_: hno not the *same* hardware - different set of registers. Might be possible - I don't have hardware to test messing with the lcd though

andoma_ has joined #linux-sunxi
<hno> CountryGeek, pinmux settings don't really belong in the driver code. These should go into script.bin (3.4) or DT (mainline). But that's next steps to generalize the driver so it works with all the Allwinner SoCs having different number of PWM interfaces and slightly different pinmux settings.
<CountryGeek> hno: I figure I'm gonna take it on the chin once I send it to the ml, but it needs to go. Thanks for the feedback - I
<CountryGeek> 've noticed a pinctl interface I need to look at
<CountryGeek> hno: I'm a F18 (Thanks hansg) user and there was no pwm driver for my pcDuino and pcDuino wouldn't release source even though their module is declared as GPL. I'm just scratching my own itch here.

<CountryGeek> I'd like to have some more hardware to test on - I've just got the one board right now.
<CountryGeek> I think hipboi|cubie might send one of his over soon

<CountryGeek> hno: would I make a new directory under drivers/misc for pwm-sunxi or would I lump it into drivers/misc ?
<hno> It's only 2 files so no need for a directory imho.
<hno> documentation goes into Documentation/... if needed.
<hno> Aha, current kernels do have a drivers/pwm/ hierarchy.
<CountryGeek> Yeah - I can't use that in 3.4 though
<CountryGeek> There's a substantially different interface
<hno> Is there also a pwm framework or only source directory hierarchy?
<CountryGeek> I patterned mine after the gpio interface
<CountryGeek> pwm framework, but doesn't implement sysfs
<CountryGeek> pwm framework changed from 3.4 to more current kernels
<hno> yes, found it now.
<CountryGeek> I retrofitted the current pwm framework just today so that no1 wouldn't scold me <grin>

<CountryGeek> There's a patch from Lars Poeschel to implement a sysfs interface on top of the newer kernel pwm interface. When that gets close I'll take out my hand-rolled sysfs stuff to defer to the kernel interface

<CountryGeek> hno: So - I've been testing with the hansg F18 system and my code as a module. Looks like I've got to build a kernel+matching modules and test with it compiled in and not compiled in. Got the kconfig stuff - wasn't tough
