<amstan> (you might find some arch rollback machine style service for arm
<m0nt3> i'm going to be looking
<m0nt3> aha
<m0nt3> i was just about to share that
<amstan> anyway, try without doing that, it might just work with the latest kernel
<m0nt3> alright
<amstan> if that's not the case it would be nice if you could bisect it, then we can tell what change and what broke it
<m0nt3> definitely. i'll be back soon. maybe you'll still be here and i can share progress.
<m0nt3> or i can send a message
<m0nt3> idk

<m0nt3> well, 2015/12/01 doesn't have proper wifi support.

<m0nt3> that was frustrating.
<m0nt3> i tried 3 different versions
<m0nt3> current, and the other two.
<m0nt3> lots of problems
<m0nt3> :/
<amstan> m0nt3: did you make sure you used the firmware package too?
cyteen has quit [Ping timeout: 255 seconds]
<amstan> veyron-firmware i think?
<m0nt3> oh
<m0nt3> darn
<m0nt3> i only had veyron-libgl
<amstan> it's not just for graphics
<amstan> veyron-firmware contains important stuff like wifi drivers
<amstan> you should keep that package in sync with the kernel
<m0nt3> i see
<amstan> what kind of problems?
<m0nt3> just the no module problem
<m0nt3> well, let me reboot
cyteen has joined #linux-rockchip
<leming> firmware-veyron just has the wifi firmware when using the mainline kernel.. it's included in the linux-veyron package
<amstan> i stand corrected
<amstan> m0nt3: ^
m0nt3 has quit [Ping timeout: 240 seconds]
<leming> veyron-libgl should get you gles.. but actual application support is spotty and mostly broken, and it's not being targeted anymore for those reasons
<leming> a few years ago developers cared about gles to a reasonable extent.. today it's just broken and massively problematic
m0nt3 has joined #linux-rockchip
<m0nt3> yeah, no go.
<m0nt3> installed firmware-veyron

<amstan> m0nt3: so what problems did you have?
<m0nt3> ah
<m0nt3> i just got the "no eglContext" error and i couldn't find any modules regarding mali
<amstan> does X even start?
<m0nt3> i've gotten X working, but its all software rendering
<m0nt3> i wasn't concerned about that
<m0nt3> just trying to get gles
<m0nt3> I got xfce and even Liri-shell working
<amstan> check your X11 log
<m0nt3> but the performance was awful
<amstan> it should say armsoc in there, something about opening /dev/mali0 too
<amstan> not fbdev
kaspter has quit [Quit: kaspter]
<m0nt3> i've never gotten that. always fbdev
<amstan> do you have the xf86-video-armsoc-rockchip package installed?
<m0nt3> yeah
<m0nt3> its almost as if it doesn't do anything
<m0nt3> no changes in modules, no access from /dev/dri/card0 or /dev/mali0
<amstan> random idea: try removing the fbdev driver?
<m0nt3> i've tried multiple installs without the fbdev driver
<amstan> installs?
<m0nt3> of the rootfs
<m0nt3> i would start fresh.
<amstan> do you start from scratch every time?
<m0nt3> yeah
<amstan> you normally don't have to
<amstan> like it should be a matter of installing some other package and restarting X11
<amstan> you don't even have to reboot
<m0nt3> yeah, but i wanted to see the difference, if it was installing something that modified it.
<m0nt3> or some config file
<m0nt3> i mean, it's not that big of a deal.
<m0nt3> especially if what leming said is true (not that i doubt it)
<m0nt3> i probably won't make much progress without some opensource driver for it anyway
<m0nt3> so, my time would be better off doing that
<m0nt3> and i still have a working OS, however frustrating it may be.
<m0nt3> but, i'll just chug along, and hopefully i get a kernel compiled that has the support i need. then move on from there.
<amstan> m0nt3: so what does your X11 log say when you have armsoc and no fbdev driver installed?
<m0nt3> let me reboot back into it.

<xevious> I've got serial output on the A95X R2 (based on the RK3328), but I can't type anything into it: I'm unable to stop autoboot in U-boot, and can't type into the bash prompt that is launched after Linux finishes booting.
