<vagrantc> anyone have any luck getting a serial console on firefly-rk3399?
<vagrantc> i'm just getting gibberish
<vagrantc> suggests to use a really high baud rate, but that didn't help
<vagrantc> 1500000
<beeble> don't own a firefly, but the default uart2 baud rate is 1500000 baud
<vagrantc> 115200 just isn't fast enough :)
<beeble> with mainline uboot the baudrate is configurable
mrjay has quit [Quit: Page closed]
<vagrantc> working on mainline u-boot + firefly-rk3399 patches and mainline linux + patches ...
<vagrantc> maybe there's nothing on the eMMC and it's trying to boot over serial?
<vagrantc> guess i should try to plug a monitor and keyboard in and see what that's doing
<beeble> fallback is usb loader
<beeble> and there is no serial output as long as you don't load something
<maz> vagrantc: things like minicom and co don't seem to manage 1.5Mbaud. cu works though.
<vagrantc> i'm using screen
<beeble> current picocom (best to build from source) does support it too
<maz> vagrantc: you're out of luck.
<vagrantc> i see.
<beeble> vagrantc: CONFIG_BAUDRATE with mainline uboot
<maz> vagrantc: or you can try using screen, and use stty to reconfigure the line from outside the session.
<beeble> via menuconfig
<vagrantc> beeble: i've not even gotten to the point of installing anything ... first i want to see what's there already
<maz> a mainline u-boot us definitely the best solution, as what is provided with the board is...erm...
<beeble> if you really need slower speed
<vagrantc> slower speed would be nice to be able to use screen/cereal and so on
Hgfg has joined #linux-rockchip
<Hgfg> Anyone knows how to underclock rk3399 in dts file? For example 1GHz for faster cores.
<beeble> you want to limit to 1ghz?
<Hgfg> Yes, and check how temperature looks then
<beeble> rewrite the cluster0 opp table
<beeble> if it's just for testing comment out the 1.2 and 1.4ghz points in rk3399-opp.dtsi
<vagrantc> maz: FTW: cu
<vagrantc> maz: thanks!
* vagrantc ponders getting screen patched to support 1500000
<Hgfg> This dtsi looks very unclear for me , but I will try
<Hgfg> Many thanks
<beeble> Hgfg: you should be able to set it via cpufreq-set too
<beeble> but what do you want to test? because by default the interactive governor is active
<Hgfg> I would like to test if its possible to run this soc without heatsink
<vagrantc> gah. the built-in u-boot has a bootdelay of 0
<beeble> and so as long as you don't run anything that demands a lot of cpu it will switch down to the lowest frequeny point
<Hgfg> In production environment
<beeble> and the a72 are a lot more demanding then the a53
<beeble> powerwise
<Hgfg> Is it possible to switch a72 off conpletely?
<beeble> and if you are not planing to run full throttle with 100% cpu all the time
<beeble> it's better to have it run at higher clock and the ondemand or interactive governor
<beeble> see race to idle as keyword for a google search
<Hgfg> Many thanks
<beeble> yes you can turn them off. but in that case, why using a rk3399?
<beeble> the a72 are one of the big sellingpoints
<Hgfg> Because i could use this platform in many cases, less human resources I need
<Hgfg> And sometimes there is no place for heatsink

libv has quit [Ping timeout: 240 seconds]
<beeble> Hgfg: the kernel already does thermal throtteling btw. so depending on the soc temperature it will select the highest possible frequency
<beeble> thats also in the opp.dtsi
<beeble> expect about 8W if you do a dead simple benchmark like 6 busy idle loops
