<topi`>
hey cnxsoft! any new pieces of hardware for review?
<cnxsoft>
I'm working on Ugoos UT4 now

I wonder how long until first products based on RK3399 will be released?
<cnxsoft>
I don't knoweither
<topi`>
probably going to be some kind of media box... it took several months, almost a year, until Radxa came up with a RK3288 based board
<topi`>
since the point of release of RK3288
<cnxsoft>
Yes, or tablet since RK3399 has a big.LITTLE CPU
<cnxsoft>
It could also be good for new Chromebooks
<topi`>
it's interesting, Rockchip hasn't used big.LITTLE before
<topi`>
I think you should write an article about how to change a S905 based TV box into a small NAS server :) I mean those few boxes that actually have SATA
<topi`>
I didn't want to take risks with the Tronsmart S905 box, and ordered a Geekbox instead.
<cnxsoft>
I think it's slow sata though
<topi`>
WiFi is slow as well- so it doesn't matter
<topi`>
WiFi is how I serve my computers :)
<cnxsoft>
I have not tested it yet (Tronsmart Vega S95), because they have not solved the 10MB bug yet
<topi`>
oh, did you write a post about the bug? I can't remember
<topi`>
and I follow everything you write :)
<cnxsoft>
Just a comment. But All Amlogic S905 devices I've tested so far have that 10MB bug
<cnxsoft>
That means the system will only show 10MB free space on some USB harddrives
<cnxsoft>
It may also depend on the partitioning
<topi`>
OUCH
<topi`>
how can that be :D
<cnxsoft>
Amlogic SDK has that bug, and nobody has cared to fix that
<topi`>
the free space is determined by the filesystem, not by hardware
<cnxsoft>
But I've seen some fixes coming online, at least with MINIX NEO U1, and Geekbuying told me that bug has been identified and it will be fixed soon
<cnxsoft>
Maybe people who use drives partitioned in Windows are OK, but Linux users may have issues. I'm not sure
<topi`>
what kind of a company is Geekbuying? it seems like they have their own R&D branch but it sure looks like an ordinary webshop for electronics
<cnxsoft>
GeekBuying is an online shop, but I think Tronsmart is their brand, or they are a close partnership with the company.
<topi`>
they also seem to be affiliated with Geekbox
<cnxsoft>
Yes
<amstan>
topi`: i think the samsung chromebook 2 was big little
<topi`>
amstan: that was not a Rockchip CPU?
<amstan>
topi`: yes, i realized you said rockchip a little too late :)
<amstan>
topi`: that was an exynos
<topi`>
I think the next Chromebooks will be getting the RK3399, that's a no-brainer
<topi`>
more CPU muscle than any Atom in both single- and multi-threaded benchmarks
<topi`>
and Asus and some chinese brands already have experience of integrating a Rockchip SoC
<topi`>
asus had two models with Rockchip, I think that tells something
<topi`>
so they didn't just consider it "an interesting experiment"

sjoerd: some timer issue? ... but still fishy why that would be affected by usb vs. sd boot
JohnDoe_71Rus has joined #linux-rockchip
<mmind00>
sjoerd: i.e. in the beginning we had something similar due to the timer-thingy supplying the architected timer, but the code in mach/rockchip/rockchip.c handles that
