<rick__>
Hi All, Is there any linux support for RK-3128?
banggeng has joined #linux-rockchip
<naobsd>
rick__: what kind of support? I don't have it but I guess any linux arm distro runs on it as like as old RK SoCs
<rick__>
naobsd, linux driver for the soc, xorg driver support which include xrandr
<naobsd>
rick__: what's the linux and what's the driver you're thinking? stock Android kernel is also Linux kernel, you can use it with any linux arm distro.
<naobsd>
"linux" "driver" is too generic, more specific words please...
<naobsd>
I think xorg fb driver will work as like as old SoCs. no idea for xrandr.
<naobsd>
btw probably you're the first person who asks about Cortex-A7 based RK SoC, no real experience here
<rick__>
Linux driver mainly on display of soc, network of soc...etc, I think it may be supported as you said....
<naobsd>
but I think it's not so different to Cortex-A9 based RK SoCs about "use Linux on it"
<rick__>
People here often use 3288?
<rick__>
I found a 3288 linux portal on the internet...
<naobsd>
I don't know which RK312x product is already available...
<naobsd>
even if you ask about RK3288, my first answer is same, any linux arm distro should run on it with generic xorg fb driver
<naobsd>
but(and) there are some support for RK3288/RK3188/RK3066 in Linux mainline kernel
dan64b has quit [Ping timeout: 246 seconds]
<naobsd>
hm, some rk312x tablet/box are available?
<rick__>
maybe I need to check if there is any xorg driver with hardware accelerated support
<naobsd>
there is very experimental code (it needs kernel patch) for rk but for now I cannot remember where...
<naobsd>
"missing hw acceleration on linux" is not only for rk312x, it's common problem
<rick__>
You mean common problem in RockChip product?
<naobsd>
yes, same for all RK SoCs
<naobsd>
only Mali is working
<naobsd>
(I'm talking about _hw acceleration_, not about general hw drivers)
<rick__>
um...I need Xorg performance and xrandr support...
<rick__>
what is Mali?
<naobsd>
Mali is 3D GPU
<naobsd>
hm, it seems there is rk3128 box around $50...
<rick__>
We will build our own board if we decide to use it
<rick__>
But I need to finish survey on it...
<rick__>
I found mali fbdev driver on the internet...
<naobsd>
btw mali gives OpenGL ES (not common OpenGL)
<naobsd>
rick__: what is your primary goal with fast Xorg screen?
paowz_ has quit [Remote host closed the connection]
<naobsd>
rick__: if you build many boards, you may ask some support from Rockchip. here is community, what we can talk is only existing things on public
<rick__>
naobsd, since it's in early survey stage, I don't know if we can get support from Rockchip...I will try it....:D
<naobsd>
rick__: I think Rockchip is becoming open, they are contributing a lot for linux mainline for rk3288. but in general any cheap SoCs for Android is far from "open".
<naobsd>
rick__: and even if it's open, community is not so strong, it needs more time and efforts to make it better
<naobsd>
rick__: talking about RK platform, there is no easy-to-use hw accel Xorg driver yet, but generic fbturbo driver which uses NEON may be considered
<naobsd>
rick__: I'm not sure it's enough for you. but you can try it on currently available RK based product
<rick__>
If I enable mali acceleration, will it gain better 2d plot performance?
<naobsd>
I have no experience with OpenGL ES, but I guess any 2D things can be plotted on 3D surface...
<rick__>
I have a 3288 firefly board and will use it's linux image and add mali driver to test the 2d plot performance...
bengal has joined #linux-rockchip
<naobsd>
rick__: I think it's good idea :)
<naobsd>
rick__: btw mali-t72x used in rk3288 should be much faster than mali-400mp2 in rk312x
<naobsd>
some of us have firefly, we can talk about it
