<steev> does the U3 boot and work on mainline without external patches?
<steev> i.e. usb working
<steev> Wizzup: i THINK the series three is the original arm chromebook, XE303C12

<sjoerd> steev: Yeah U3 should boot with mainline with most things working
<steev> Where most things are usb and networking?
<steev> Or, storage and serial console
<sjoerd> Yeah
afaerber has joined #linux-exynos
<steev> sjoerd: so networking works? my buddy is thinking of playing with his u3 again but he insists on using a mainline kernel
<Wizzup> seems sensible ;)
<Wizzup> steev: right @ three
<jnettlet> What kernels are everyone running on their Peach* chromebooks?
<jnettlet> mainline?
<Wizzup> Currently not, but I hope to do it during the last few days of the vacation
<Wizzup> (and document it well, etc)
<jnettlet> Wizzup, mainline?
<Wizzup> Yes. But currently not
<Wizzup> Currently running chromeos
<jnettlet> same here, although I would love to run a custom kernel with it
<Wizzup> Well, I configged the chromeos kernel to my liking
<Wizzup> I just want more recent kernels, with grsec
<jnettlet> In what respect? rebuilt with different options
<Wizzup> yes
<Wizzup> So custom in a sense ;)
<jnettlet> I am most interested in enabling the bfq io scheduler.
<jnettlet> although there seems to be something funky with the memory handling as well. occasionally kswapd just goes nuts with cpu usage
<Wizzup> actually, funnily enough, I have not managed to make swap work
<jnettlet> the recent work that allows you to run a crouton chroot in a chrometab is really making ChromeOS a lot more viable as a main dev OS.
<jnettlet> then I can have chromeos for my basic desktop stuff, and a full linux desktop on the second display, or another tab
<Wizzup> well, yeah, but I don't want to use chromeos itself :)
<sjoerd> steev: Yeah, networking is a usb device which is properly supported upstream
<jnettlet> sjoerd, are you running ChromeOS with a custom kernel?
<sjoerd> i'm not running ChromeOS
<steev> sjoerd: so no need to patch the kernel at all? with which version is it fixed? git or something that's released?
<sjoerd> steev: for an U3? that should have been working for the last few kernel releases
<sjoerd> (not U3, not XU3)
<steev> er
<steev> what
<sjoerd> *(U3, not XU3)
<steev> right
<steev> i haven't even done more than make sure the xu3 boots

<javier__> jnettlet: I'm using mainline for my peach pi, what is missing is wifi, sound and HDMI
<javier__> jnettlet: the peach pit needs additional out-of-tree patches to support the eDP to LVDS bridge chip to have the display working
<jnettlet> javier__, thanks. do you have a link?
<javier__> jnettlet: well I was talking about mainline but if you want a git repo that has also the out-of-tree patches you can take a look to my wip branches
<javier__> jnettlet: I forgot that also the touchpad does not work in mainline for peach pi (but works for peach pit) and also the webcam is not powered so the device is not discovered
<javier__> there are posted patches for those two though
<jnettlet> javier__, okay thanks for the headsup.
<javier__> jnettlet: no worries, you may want to use wip/exynos/dp-integ that has all the needed patches to have display and HDMI working on snow, pit and pi
<javier__> just build using exynos_defconfig
<jnettlet> sounds like I may need a third CB2 for testing
<jnettlet> I almost got a 13" cheap, but the deal fell through. I think the seller realized the mistake they were making

<Wizzup> libv: I'm pretty available in the next few days; IIRC you were documenting some device and would have some suggestions for the wiki?
<Wizzup> On that note, anyone who would like a wiki acc and help documenting ongoing dev work?
