so I uploaded a html doc to ipfs with the desktop client and it almost never loads on https://gateway.ipfs.io/ipfs/ but loads really fast via https://ipfs.eternum.io/ipfs/ since the ens uses the ipfs.io link to resolve the content hash link almost never loads

If your app has a backend logic like a database or HTML templating then no it is not possible to host it on IPFS.

You can recreate some of the features though. For example for tempmaying you can do it client-side using a front end framework like Vue or even do it using the standard Web Components API. For the database you can use the distributed database OrbitDB.

But if your app is meant to run on a high performance server or if your database is so big that it cannot be downloaded client-side for processing then it's definitely not possible to host it on IPFS. Every task that was once executed by a server would now be executed by every computer seeing your webapp. It's why webapps like Google Maps or Google Search cannot be recreated with IPFS, unless we start to implement

If you have a website (which is nothing short of a directory of all the website's resources) then you hash it and add it to the network. If you want to have a mutable link to your website, you use IPNS. If you change one of the blog posts of your website, you hash again the directory and add it to the network and republish your IPNS record.

as it turns out --timeout is actually not behaving as say curl --timeout does, (actually curl provides two) -T and -t one is time to connect, and the other is time to nextbyte. ipfs --timeout is behaving like neither one of these I think. it is behaving more like --time-for-job. What about implementing a more vigorous specification for timeouts? --timeout-to-connect, or maybe for ipfs that is less relevant,

ive been wrestling to get proper mirroring of ipfs files automation to work. I'm managing thousands of hashes anything between a few kb and a few 100 GB. or more I had tried ipfs packs, but there are some reasons i think also to do it file by file. So question is do we have real timeout, or just job time for an ipfs get. It seems really unsuitable for such a large variance of file sizes, and I can't be expected to set

I suppose the answer is dont sync ipfs file by file. But you know with jobs this big you can't do them in parallel either
