Is there a way to explicitly announce to the DHT that you have certain blocks?

Thought there'd be something... Tryna troubleshoot this one guy's node.

Question for those that know about CJDNS and or YGGDRAIL
<DarkDrgn2k[m]>
would blacklisting ipv4/ipv6 (intenet) addresses help when peering on a non-internet connection device (but connected to an alternative network like CJDNS)

<redfish>
DarkDrgn2k[m]: presumably the attempts to connect (incl bootstrap) via internet addresses will eventually time out. i guess blacklist will save on this delay, but only if all parallel attempts are taken up by the internet addressses, starving the cjdns/other addresses. what are you looking to find out exactly tho?
<DarkDrgn2k[m]>
I am reviewing the merit of an idea some one in our group had.
<DarkDrgn2k[m]>
Is it correct to say that each NODE ID will only have one ip adress in its dht tree even if it has multiple interfaces?
<DarkDrgn2k[m]>
redfish: ^
<redfish>
DarkDrgn2k[m]: Addresses.Announce is a list, so presumably a node can advertise as many externally reachable endpoints as it wishes. i never tried tho.
<DarkDrgn2k[m]>
it seemes to me that dual homed nodes only latch onto one of the networks
<DarkDrgn2k[m]>
at least it seems that some nodes are not available to none-internet enabled deces
<DarkDrgn2k[m]>
i guess i need to check into this a bit more
reit has joined #ipfs
<redfish>
DarkDrgn2k[m]: there's no relaying, last time I checked, so yeah nodes with only cjdns announce addresses will onlly be able to see other cjdns nodes.
<DarkDrgn2k[m]>
my point is they dont see "dual homed" ones
<DarkDrgn2k[m]>
sometimes
<redfish>
ok, that's unexpected to me too then.

might be a reliability issue with DHT - queries might take too long or otherwise fail - as opposed to this being a dual home issue specifically. but who knows.
<DarkDrgn2k[m]>
ill have to test more and get more detailed results.

Updated my issue with way more info, I think I'm getting really close. Something to do with the list of addresses available upon connection. Or at least the lsit of addresses is an indicator of whether or not pubsub will be working or not: https://github.com/libp2p/js-libp2p/issues/332

jon1012, how do you enable it in go-ipfs? I thought gossip was the default if you used --enable-pubsub-experiment on 4.19
<jon1012>
lordcirth__ I don't know... in the docs it still says you need to activate it :/
<jon1012>
better if it's the default
<lordcirth__>
Considering the whole thing is experimental, it seems weird to have a "really experimental" option

<lordcirth__>
AphelionZ, what's your main use case for js-ipfs? I get that running it in the browser is nice for transparent CDN stuff, but can you cache stuff if they close the page?
<AphelionZ>
Well w/r/t closing the page: all the IPFS data are stored in IndexedDB via LevelDB, so it's there until one of two things happens: 1. the user manually clears the cache or (check this out):
<AphelionZ>
2. iOS or Android just randomly decide that the browser local storage is taking up too much space and wipes it indiscriminately by host starting with the largest
<AphelionZ>
we're creating a pinning service for our app, which is a consumer app for the general public - the browser is pretty much necessary at that point
<lordcirth__>
So, people upload to IPFS via your app, which you then pin for them?
<AphelionZ>
yeah more or less - OrbitDB powers all the data stores and such. and then we encrypt the data locally using keys only that user has, and then pin the encrypted data
<AphelionZ>
all the key and hash management is 🤞 gracefully hidden from the user
<AphelionZ>
we also supply a key management and recovery process using a generated seed so we don't have to store those either
<lordcirth__>
Neat
<AphelionZ>
thank you!
